the choppiness of my pictures wasn't a gif vs png problem, it was a "I suck at image cutting" problem

I just used photoshop, placed a blank layer under picture, used magic wand to highlight the white, then used select>modify>contract by 1 or 2 pixels to cut down the jagged edges, deleted the...

Do you mean transparent instead of opaque?
