    The NHL 12 Info Thread

    NHL 12
    Release Date: September 13th, 2011
    Platforms: Xbox 360/Playstation 3

    Operation Sports Preview (E3 2011)

    Updated Operation Sports Preview

    New Features & Additions

    • Full Contact Physics Engine - "Everything is live." Players can now be hit into the benches, lose their helmets (including goaltenders), break the glass from a shot or check, and more.

    • Crash The Crease - Goalies can now be contacted and crashed into, the net can be knocked off it's moorings and players will now battle and tie-up in front of the net with full user control. The size of players battling in front of the net for position now comes into play with smaller players spinning off of their defender and using their quickness, while bigger players will use their size and strength to clear the traffic.

    • All-New Dynamic Goalies - Goaltenders will attempt to fight through screens, react to players crashing their crease, attempt all-new desperation saves and can now fight opposing goalies.

    • The Winter Classic - The NHL's trademark outdoor event can now be played at Heinz Field with the authentic presentation you see on New Year's Day.

    • Revamped Be A Pro - Experience the pursuit of greatness and legendary moments in your playing career, shatter historic records and cement yourself in NHL history. Additionally, the better you play, the more ice time you’ll get where you can simulate to your next shift so you’re always on the ice.

    • EA Sports Action Tracker - Inspired by the NHL GameCenter Ice Tracker, the all-new EA Sports Action Tracker simulates action with a shift-by-shift breakdown of stats and key moments leading up to your next shift.

    • NHL In Winnipeg - The Atlanta Thrashers' relocation to Winnipeg will be included in NHL 12.

    • Anticipation AI - Multiple improvements to the AI will now make opponents and teammates more adept at setting up in-zone, staying onside and generating offense, as well as having offensive forwards leak out early for outlet passes and defensive players anticipating passes being made.

That blog is very underwhelming, nothing very new and interesting in it.

yeah, i was at least expecting more than one screenshot and or some quick clips showcasing new stuff but nope. guess that's where E3 will shine.

Yes, pretty underwhelming. Though the pic of Bobrovsky getting run over looks awesome.

I don't know I hope this game delivers for me, but the more I read the more I get less excited. I really hope the puck has more weight this year. A lor of times it felt to floaty. The goalies have me intrigue.

Yes, it wasn't anything earth-shattering, considering we already knew they will be "live" in NHL12. However, look at this nugget and remember what I was saying the other day in another thread:

Goalie behavior this year will also be affected by traits. A more aggressive goalie will shove and fight to clear his crease. A good puck handling goalie will be brave and come out and challenge for loose pucks.
Sometimes you have to read between the lines to find what you're hoping to hear.

Yeah, I noticed that while reading. I wonder if this mean they're doing what Madden is this year with tendencies and all of that or if they just put more emphasis on the player styles like Grinders, Offensive-Dmen, etc.

Getting traffic in front of goalies (especially humans) is laughably ineffective, much like deflections. You can screen a goalie but it has to be perfect, IMO they need to tune it so the goalies sight of the puck effects his reaction to it. If he cannot see the puck at all he shouldn't react, where as if he's fighting through a 1 person screen maybe it's 75% reaction speed 50% for 2 something like that where getting shots through traffic is effective.

If you didn't see it already, check the thread on here about the Gamereactor UK preview. I speculate about a possible trait system based on what I was told last May at the community event. Seeing Nate's comment about goalie traits ups my confidence that they were able to include it.

As long as players live up to their given traits, it could be a huge feature. I thought that's what the player types was suppose to be, but apparently those were just a fluke.
