Good day gentlemen. I have an Apple related question and did not wish to begin a new thread. I apologize if this slight veering from talk about the iPhone is frowned upon. Anyway, I am not well-versed in the area of digital music and here's my query:

I had music files on an old computer. I put some of those files onto a jump drive and then loaded them to my new computer. From there, I added those files to my iTunes library. Each song file now exists in two places on my new computer 1) Under a "Music" folder I created for transferring files from my old computer and 2) In my iTunes library. My question is, if I delete the file from my makeshift folder, will it still exist in my iTunes library? Are the iTunes versions of my songs copies or do they operate directly from the file in the folder?

Yes, unfortunately iTunes (at least on Windows) does not account for moved/deleted files.

Google ITLU - great program to automatically scan your drive and add your music accordingly.

@VDusen04 - you are probably safe to delete the "temp" copies. i don't have iTunes on my PC at work right now, but if you right click on the songs in iTunes and then select PROPERTIES or INFORMATION, somewhere on one of those tabs should be the exact location of the file (as far as iTunes is concerned). as long as iTunes is looking at the copy in the iTunes Music Library Folder, it is safe to delete the other copy.

Have you thought about getting iCloud when that becomes available? Might be an alternative worth looking into.

Personally I can't wait for the new iPhone. I've had the original Droid since the first day it came out so it's about time for me to get a new phone. Plus I just got a MacBook Pro a few months ago so it would be a nice accessory for my new toy.

No, thats not what iCloud is. Its for backing up all of your media, not streaming it.

And even if that was the case, I don't want that. No need to use internet when things can be stored locally. I want all my music with me (I like options), and 32GB isn't enough

Obviously with Sprint now getting the iPhone I am ready to dump my Evo but I am even more interested to see if they either:

A) Release a 128 GB iPod Touch

or...

B) Do something special for the 10th anniversary of the iPod classic, perhaps a 250 GB final version.

Hate to burst your bubble, but, according to MacRumors.com, Apple is speculated to be dropping the iPod classic and Shuffle models and only making subtle changes to the iPod Touch, specifically a white version. Understandably there will be other "under the hood" changes to the iTouch but I wouldn't expect anything drastic.

I seems like most of the energy will be committed to the iPhone for the foreseeable future.

I'm with you on Sprint though. I assumed you've upgraded to the unlimited data plan? I've read that analysts do not expect that plan to be around for long after the iPhone launch, similar to Verizon and AT&T

Actually you are able to access all of your content thats on iCloud. Whether it's on your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, or PC. I know you said it's not what you're looking for but still.
