What the hell did they do to the defense this year??? Please explain to me what I am missing? This game seems like a run and gun free for all

Even that is essentially gone. I've been right on people and they're hitting on the park. I'm literally one of the people that was the most hesitant this year to buy until i got live in my hands and knew it wasn't what they made it to be. However, i was loving shutting people down as a 70 when they were rated higher. Only a month into it i can't get a steal or contest a shot. I thought the game was DAMN near perfect on release and now i can't play it. It plays almost EXACTLY like last year.

Ridiculous that it's taken this long to get a patch on transition defense. Records and experiences are left tarnished. When Battlefront comes out I'm out

I'm not seeing run and gun. Although transition D sometimes seems weak. Still seeing realistic FG %. I found some fantastic sliders I downloaded from the community. If you play offline go check out some sliders. Use the point of emphasis too. Seems to help me

Transition defense (or the complete lack thereof) and the ridiculously high accuracy of full court passes has sapped my ability to enjoy this game, and there remains absolutely no feedback from 2K regarding it which is pretty pathetic. Coupled with the way players just exploit it over and over after every made basket and it's far more irritating a game to play than it is fun a lot of the time.

This has been my experience as well. I wasn't playing in the park. But now people can just blow right by my defenders playing on or off. It doesn't matter what I do.

Yeah why did 2k make it where we can throw FOOTBALL passes and not be punished for silly looking crap like that? I'm talking about offline play.....ill be damed if I ever play online again...im pulling my hair enough as it is

Probably not, because I'm seeing this offline as well. Playing defense, especially transition or paint D is pointless at this juncture

My main issue is guarding the CPU at the end of shot clock. All of the sudden they jus magically can get by my on ball defender and get to the lane. Been like that for years

Nah, it's just as bad playing USER V USER offline. My friend and I play about 10-15 games per week. When the game came out I told him how much better the defense was....and he still gives me crap for saying that now that we've had time to play. The scores and shooting percentages are lower in our games compared to last year, but not because the defense is better, it's because it's harder to hit shots using the meter.

The only thing "better" about the defense, and I quote "better", is the assist strength on ball (which takes away control of my player on defense plenty of times, albeit helpful, it's not satisfying when I know I messed up but the game slides my defender into better position) and blocks.

I love this game, and don't want to sound like one of those guys, but the defense is NOT better than last year. I said this in another thread but it's almost like they cranked the defensive assist strength up and called it better defense. I just hope a patch can fix the transition, off ball, and help D.

I primarily play All Star Team Up with friends, so I can't comment on the CPU defensive AI. But for me personally, I love the defense this year. Shot blockers have more of a presence (maybe too much of a presence), on ball defense is better without overpowering recovery speeds off ball, good shot contests result in more misses this year, and dribbling/passing into heavy traffic isn't rewarded as much as years past.

That's been my experience at least.
