Really enjoying playing pickup games. Little lag but is expected from a demo that you can play online.

Jumped right into the deep end and first thing I did after tip off was pit the game on super star! Id rather go through the whoopings now than later... I'm getting killed lol, I love it though! Still trying to get a feel before I offer anything.

some people probably remember that I was one of the guys that loved 16 and watching the videos that had been released I commented on how I was happy that I saw a lot of the good 16 did but with ironed out animations in 18. I was so hoping that would be the case and after playing the demo I believe I was spot on. The game is a refined NBA live 16 and that may bum some people out but those that liked 16 and saw the potential will be happy.

I'm ecstatic because my 3 big hopes I posted awhile ago that I wanted to stay in 1. The same awesome halftime /post game show. 2. The ability to turn off player icons and video gamey overlays. 3. Accelerated clock. All 3 have remained in.

For the new I'm a real big fan of the shot meter and the different pass types. The step back is great but I'm struggling getting used to the new dribble mechanics after a full 2 years playing 16.

I have one negative though. The graphics for me anyways, have taken a step back. Player faces aren't as crisp and uniforms look a little weird. Some wont feel that way but I really enjoyed 16 graphically.

I don't think the graphics have taken a step back, I think they are just different. I know what you mean about 16's graphics. They were more muted and realistic looking, while 18's graphics pop and are more vibrant.

I personally prefer 18. I feel like the models are better and I like that vibrant popping color look.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions

Yeah most of the complaints are silly imo.

The One mode seems like everything 2k's My career should be.

I start out at a 70 rating. So right away, even on the demo, I'm a decent rating.

When I preorder the game, it will only be $40. Saving me $20 from 2k, and saving me $40 of VC I would have bought.

So the upside to the game:

Being able to consistently level your character through online play is just FUN...

I cannot tell you how much I hated fouling out of games on 2k, just so I could go to practice, jump up a pole 9 times, and then go foul out of games again. Hours and hours of having to play the CPU in my career mode just to level.

Well Live allows me to play a story mode playing in pro-am games, allows me to play with other players, either way I'm getting xp.

The leveling system just LOOKS fun and is fun. Each step of the way I feel accomplished when I gain a level and gain better dribbling or dunking.

              As far as gameplay:

Gameplay is fairly equal in the post and the outside. Tough shots aren't going in. Contested shots are tough, some go in, some don't. And there is a good balance between the inside and the outside.

Last years Live was 100% broken in my opinion because there was no offensive flow. I felt like I couldn't do anything but try to run pick and rolls to get offense going. This year the plays feel smooth, spacing feels great, and there is a great balance between the inside and outside.

              Post animations also look fantastic.

              The downside:

              Less signature animations than 2k
Still some stiff animations at times
Sometimes looks as fluid as can be, sometimes LOOKS less fluid.
Franchise mode is bound to have a lack of depth, and sounds like no roster editing.

Overall, if your a bang for your buck person, this is the game for you imo. Preorder for $40, start off with a decent player and have fun leveling to a good rating. Within a few games I was a 73-74. So it shouldn't take too long to get to something manageable.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions

Overall this game looks and plays good. I'm a 2k guy, but I'm tired of legacy issues 2k games have. NBA Live 18 is definetely something fresh and enjoyable.

                HOWEVER.

I have one big issue, and I hope you guys can help me with that.

Is it something I can do to switch controls to "camera relative" like it is in NBA 2k? I play mostly on broadcast cam, so it's kind of a gamebreaker to me when I can't control my player relatively to camera angle. I hope you guys know what I'm talking about.

Maybe I do something wrong? Or maybe this option will be implemented to full game?

Anyway, here's some gameplay that I recorded yesterday. I played with my brother. Full USER vs USER game on broadcast cam.

Does the player momentum make creating space for basic pull up jumpers possible (i.e; 2 quick dribbles forward, stop and shoot)?

Or do you need to change direction to make space?

I'm still at work and can't play for a few hours to test it....

Big yes in my opinion. Momentum plays a big role in creating space, dribbling also does a great job in creating space and blowing by players.

Last year I pretty much had to get a pick and roll or do a crazy unrealistic dribble spin to get past someone, this year once you learn a lot of dribble moves, IF YOUR guy has good handle, or a great matchup, you can use it to blow by, if you have good post up and good weight you can use to your advantage, and you can create some space for jumpers too in the few games I've played.

Not exactly sure to where post this [impression], but hoping that WTF would see it because I think it's important that it be addressed in this version or in future versions (this not only applies to Live but also Madden). To certain individuals, this may not seem like a big deal, but it is something very important when it comes to animations and just replication of human movement.

Walking - it's this one animation that I would like to see addressed. Notice Draymond Green (Real) fully extends his lower leg until it is completely straight with his thighs. The same with Rugby Challenge's walking animation. Now, take notice of NBA Live's Klay Thompson and how he walks with his legs in a bent position. He does not fully extend his lower leg. Underneath the spoiler tag there is another capture from NBA live 18 after the timeout when everybody walks back onto the court. They all walk with bent legs.

Since WTF is a game changer, I'm wondering if he could pass this along to the EA Live development team.

I was only able to play the intro game to the Drew League. But, my first quick impressions were that it's much improved from 16! Yeah it still has some stiffness to the gameplay, but that definitely doesn't take away from all the improvements they put in this game. That's just my first initial thought of not being use to the controls just yet.

Unfortunately I won't be able to really dive into the game till I get home from work tomorrow evening. Hope to see some good feedback or constructive criticism from everyone who gets a chance to play all day tomorrow.
