COACH GEEZY IN THE BIG EASY PART III: LEGACY | FROM BOURBON ST. TO THE BAYOU -
Game 12, Year 17 Preview (2026 season): #5 Southern Miss at #14 Tulane
GAME 12 PREVIEW

RIVALRY GAME: THE BATTLE FOR THE BELL
Latest Line (courtesy Bovada - Las Vegas):
....................Pick'em ....................
2025: Just as he did 4 years prior as a true freshman, Southern Miss redshirt senior QB Kevin Nealy carved up the Green Wave defense, this time throwing for a whopping 481 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Last Meeting: For the fourth consecutive time, then-#7 Tulane was unable to figure out how to navigate themselves to victory in Hattiesburg, falling in blowout fashion to #9 ranked Southern Miss 49-27 last season in a rainstorm. Golden Eagles QB Kevin Nealy had a career-day, throwing for 481 yards and 3 touchdowns, while former USM RB C.J. Ivey accounted for 221 yards from scrimmage and 3 touchdowns. The loss for Tulane dropped their record to 9-5 versus Southern Miss under 17th year head coach D. Geezy, and it also marked the 8th consecutive year in which the home team won the annual battle between the former Conference USA foes.
2024: Then-redshirt freshman QB Jimmy McBride's (LEFT) 72-yard touchdown completion to former Wave star WR Brandon McIntyre (RIGHT) made the score 28-14 and began a second half scoring onslaught.
Last Meeting at Venue: Two years ago, then-#20 Tulane came out on fire from start to finish, easily disposing of rival Southern Miss 42-17 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. QB Jimmy McBride, then a redshirt freshman, had arguably the best performance of his young career up to that point, going 21 of 27 for 395 yards and 5 touchdowns versus the 6th ranked Golden Eagles' beleaguered defense. Former Wave stud WR Brandon McIntyre also had a career day, catching 5 passes for 217 yards for 2 touchdowns, as his team improved its record to 9-3 on the year to close out the regular season.
Trip Down Memory Lane
Celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Tulane's 2016 BCS National Title
TOP ROW: Southern Miss scored two straight touchdowns to cut Tulane's lead to 28-14 just before halftime, however RB/KR Reggie Moore's 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown took the wind out of the Golden Eagles' sails, making the score 35-14 going into the halftime break. | BOTTOM ROW: Tulane QB Jamie Manning hit RB Reggie Moore on a swing-screen pass early in the third quarter and the junior speedster followed the lead block delivered downfield by former Wave C Blake Roberts on his way to a 65-yard touchdown which made the score 42-21.
Last Meeting (Legacy Classic): On the final weekend of both teams' 2016 regular season, #3 Tulane blew out undefeated and #7 ranked Southern Miss 59-21 a decade ago at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Former Green Wave star RB Reggie Moore finished with 2 touchdowns (1 receiving and 1 kick return), while then-true freshman QB Jamie Manning played perhaps the best game of his career to-date, going 22 of 32 for 328 yards with 6 touchdowns and no interceptions, helping the eventual national champion Wave ruin their former Conference USA foes' bid for a perfect season and a BCS berth.

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy: Our City, Our Team | Part II - The Golden Age of Tul
It’s too bad that every game can’t be against Ole Miss with the way McBride has been torching them lol.
I don’t want to jinx it, but I smell an upset here. Seems like they’ve been playing some stout defense, but to me they look a little over rated. Big game for you guys.Comment

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy: Our City, Our Team | Part II - The Golden Age of Tul
They have some weak spots for you to exploit, specifically in their secondary. I also see some suspect spots on the o-line. It's all about exploiting their weaknesses. Knocking off #5 would be a great way to cap off the regular season!Comment

This game is indeed huge and I cannot wait for the kickoff. The dome will be rockin'!
Fun fact: Southern Miss has beaten Tulane 5 times during Coach Geezy's tenure, the most by any one team over the course of this dynasty.
I plan to try to bring in some A and B gap pressure to try to exploit their weakness at left guard. Their starting corners look fairly solid, but the sub-package guys and the safeties look ripe for picking apart. I may try to expose them by putting Lawson in the slot and running some deep routes to test them early.
I am so pumped for this game, especially now that we're in the real life football season. This is the best time of year for playing this video game.
Time to kick this one off before settling in on the couch for tonight's real life college football action!Click here to read my dynasty report:

Absolutely agree. This game has so much more life once we’re in season! We’re about to head out for the UCLA game ourselves, football is finally back!
Edit: man UCLA stunk up the place...at least my Boise State Broncos won! Lol

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy: Our City, Our Team | Part II - The Golden Age of Tul
Sorry for my absence my friend. Finally all caught up again. Looks like a pretty even matchup with your rival per usual. If history holds, this should be your year to take it and stick it to the Golden Eagles. It was interesting to hear the tidbit about them being the team that has beaten you the most over this project. I would think Arkansas is a close second?
Fantastic work as always my friend. I cannot wait to see how this one turned out and then onto the conference championship!A Rising Storm in the North | Cheese's Eastern Michigan Dynasty (NCAA '12)

Good guess on Arkansas, they're actually tied with Alabama for the next highest total at 4.
I appreciate the check-in and the kind words brother. Hope all is well!Click here to read my dynasty report:

Gm. 12, Yr. 17 (2026 season): #5 Southern Miss Golden Eagles at #14 Tulane Green Wave
RIVALRY GAME: THE BATTLE FOR THE BELL
#5x17 -- 11-1
#1449 -- 9-3
QB Jimmy McBride and WR Adam Lawson celebrate following McBride's 10-yard first quarter touchdown run that gave Tulane a 14-0 lead.
Behind the outstanding play of QB McBride and WR Lawson, #14 Tulane curb-stomps rival #5 Southern Miss 49-17 | Money McBride's torrid 4-touchdown second quarter helps Green Wave amass 42-7 halftime lead and avenge last year's 49-27 loss to Golden Eagles at Hattiesburg | Wave clicking on all cylinders as they now turn full attention to SEC Championship Game bout with Florida in two weeks
New Orleans, LA -- In a game that was nearly a direct-mirror image of last year's 49-27 blowout in which Southern Miss was victorious, the Tulane Green Wave returned the favor, embarrassing their former Conference USA rival Golden Eagles 49-17 Saturday evening at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. A big play by the Green Wave's defense early in the game set the entire tone for the night, and, utilizing the red hot arm of QB Jimmy McBride, an incredible flurry of second quarter points helped the Wave put the game away before halftime and send the Golden Eagles away with their first loss of the season.
CB J.T. Hills jumped onto the back of DT Jerry Anderson following Anderson's 54-yard interception return touchdown that gave the Wave a 7-0 lead and all of the early momentum.
Southern Miss received the ball first to start the game, and true freshman LG Willie Davidson's false start penalty on the first play from scrimmage was one of four false start penalties during the game, as the USM could not adjust to the incredible amount of crowd noise the Mercedes-Benz Superdome provided for the home team. The crowd would go into a frenzy just a few plays into the game when Wave sophomore MLB Rasheed Ward hit QB Geoff Smith, causing an errant pass that landed in the hands of fellow sophomore DT Jerry Anderson. The former 4-star recruit out of Texas would return the interception 54 yards for a touchdown, giving his team a 7-0 lead a little over a minute into the game.
Later in the first quarter, following a 57-yard field goal miss by Golden Eagles PK Danny Siegel, Tulane would increase its lead when McBride scrambled for a 10-yard touchdown that made the score 14-0 midway through the first quarter...and the party was just getting started.
McBride's 22-yard touchdown pass to WR Adam Lawson made the score 21-0 early in the second quarter. Then, following one of several USM three-and-outs, McBride found WR Grant Brady in stride and the sophomore California native spun past one defender before breaking the tackle of another for a 63-yard touchdown that made the score 28-0. Brady finished the night with 3 receptions for a season-high 102 yards.
The game would essentially be put away in the final minutes of the first half when McBride found TE Danny Bailey for a 5-yard touchdown that made the score 35-0. Then, following Southern Miss finally getting on the board via a touchdown pass from Smith to WR Alton Wright, McBride's 79-yard scoring hookup with Lawson on a wide receiver screen made the score 42-7. Lawson finished the night with 5 receptions for 163 yards and the 2 scores, while McBride finished 15 of 22 for 327 yards and 4 touchdowns, along with 1 rushing touchdown.
Tulane's much-maligned defense surrendered 147 rushing yards to Southern Miss senior star RB Randy Davis, however, utilizing a heavy dose of a 2-4-5 alignment and heavy blitz pressure, it held the Golden Eagles to just 3 of 13 on third down conversions while enabling the Green Wave offense to amass the team's big lead.
RED HOT: QB Jimmy McBride used his arm and his legs to torch the Golden Eagles for 5 total touchdowns on the night. McBride has thrown for 773 yards and has accounted for 11 total touchdowns in his last two games.
"We clicked on all cylinders today and the game plan just came together well in every facet," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy, who would rest most of his team's starters in the second half. "This thing has really come together for us and I honestly feel like we could beat any team in the country right now."
The win for the Green Wave over the Golden Eagles marks the 9th consecutive year in which the home team has won the annual rivalry series. The win also essentially knocks Southern Miss out of national title contention and likely also out of a BCS bowl berth opportunity, which would have been its second straight after falling to Florida St. 28-13 in last year's Sugar Bowl.
Tulane (9-3) will now turn its full attention to the SEC Championship Game versus Florida, to be held two weeks from now in Atlanta, Georgia. Florida (9-3) defeated the Green Wave 36-17 in the two schools' last SEC title matchup in 2023, the year the Gators eventually won the BCS national championship. Tulane, who has not won the SEC since 2021, could play host to the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans with a win.
"We've certainly had some triumphs and some disappointments this season," said Geezy, who is in the final year of his contract and hopes a conference title could help earn him another extension. "If we can win the SEC, a lot of the bad taste in our mouths from this season will go away. At the end of the day, we play for championships and for rings, and this is an opportunity to do just that, regardless of what has transpired this year."
True freshman CB Kurt Blalock, flanked by Tulane offensive coordinator Joe Roberts, waves goodbye to the home crowd for the final time this season, though the team hopes to return to the dome for the Sugar Bowl in a few weeks.

QB Jimmy McBride prepares to lead his troops onto the their home field, possibly for the final time this season.
SS Jo Jo Price and OLB Joshua Freeman provided a convoy for DT Jerry Anderson on this 54-yard interception return touchdown that gave Tulane a 7-0 lead on the game's opening Southern Miss possession.
Despite taking the 'L,' Golden Eagles RB Randy Davis found running lanes most of the afternoon and finished with 16 carries for a game-high 147 yards on the ground.
Junior stud WR Adam Lawson, a former 4-star recruit possibly playing in his final home game, celebrated with the crowd following his 22-yard touchdown reception that increased Tulane's lead to 21-0 early in the second quarter.
CB Kurt Blalock and company rejoiced following a second quarter third down stop as the Wave began to assert its dominance over their former Conference USA rivals.
Southern Miss WR Alton Wright was able to haul-in this deep pass despite a leaping Price and took it in for a 56-yard touchdown that made the score 35-7, still in the second quarter. Wright finished with 4 receptions for 76 yards and 2 scores on the night.
Pic 1 of 3: McBride found Lawson on a wide receiver quick screen.
Pic 2 of 3: Lawson showed off his speed along with his great run-after-catch ability, going across the field to set up his blockers before taking the quick screen 79 yards to the house, making the score 42-7 just before halftime.
Pic 3 of 3: Lawson and senior WR Kenny Bell chest-bumped each other following the long score which just about put the game away.
Wide-eyed true freshman QB Ryan Tyler, a blue chip recruit last year and the nation's #1 rated high school quarterback, played most of the second half and finished the night 8 of 13 for 91 yards and 1 touchdown, which came at the conclusion of a 12-play 80-yard drive.
Bell, a redshirt senior and former 2-star recruit possibly playing in his final game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, finished with 3 receptions for 40 yards, including this 13-yard fourth quarter touchdown in which he knifed his way through two defenders into the end zone.
It was a tough loss for Southern Miss star QB Geoff Smith as his team's undefeated season came to a screeching halt at the hands of the rival Green Wave.
FS Terrell Faulk, another Green Wave senior possibly playing in New Orleans for the final time, celebrated with Anderson following the game's final whistle.
McBride finished the game with 327 passing yards along with 5 total touchdowns as he won Player of the Game honors for the second week in a row. Tulane fans in attendance hope this wasn't the last time they'd get to see the star redshirt junior in action at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Star junior OLB Sean Williamson, Tulane's leading tackler this year with 80 stops, walked of Superdome turf for possibly the final time. The former blue chip recruit will have to decide after the season whether he wants to opt for the NFL Draft or stay in school for one more year.

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy: Our City, Our Team | Part II - The Golden Age of Tul
Big win. McBride balled out the last few weeks of the season. Great momentum heading into the SEC Title Game. Really good to knock off your rivals from an undefeated season. Almost as good of a feeling as winning a conference title. Almost.
Texas WR Sam Roberts has 1700 yards receiving and the Texas QB threw for 2200 yards to non-Sam-Roberts Longhorn players. Wow. Talk about putting the ball in your playmakers hands. Didn't Texas also have a dude with a monstrous season a couple seasons back that should've won the Heisman? Like 1800+ receiving yards and 120+ catches or something?Comment

Another great performance by McBride, but also by that defense. I got a chuckle from the "curb stomp" in the title, it's a brutal phrasing but correct in this case lol.
This should be a good sign going into the SEC title game. It's great to come in hot like this. Keep it going!
Ride this WAVE of momentum...get it!? ahh man I just can't escape a good pun, dad jokes are best lolComment
