The backstories are what helps bring these things to life.
This is a pretty impressive group that I am very thankful that the gaming gods have made available for us to possibly nab. Each player (except for the QB, who is good in his own right for future reasons) would help immediately bolster an area of need. The cornerback Ryan Carter in particular is the one I am most excited about, with our top CB being the 73 overall Christian Darby, a guy we used to pick-on at Tulane whenever we played the Tigers. If his ratings are legit, Carter could find himself as a starter on day 1.
Some good recruits with good stories. Hopefully you can reel them in and really get a head start on the future of LSU. I miss the old offseason recruiting where you had something like 5 weeks of it. In 14 it’s just 15k points, spend em once and pray.
I like the 4-2-5 idea. I’ve personally never run it, but always found it extremely challenging to beat.
Sent from my iPhone using Operation Sports
I too have struggled against 4-2-5 teams. I think the only concern I have about potentially using it maybe is the lack of versatility as far as formations. I liked having the multiple playbook, where I could toggle back and forth from 4-3 to 3-4 to 3-3-5. I'm still torn on what I am going to do defensively.
I know Southern Miss has been performing well on the field in your dynasty, but it's still surprising to see them as well as Boise State going toe-to-toe with a big name program like LSU on the recruiting trail. Whether Franklin signs with you or Southern Miss, he'll definitely be a thorn in Tulane's side for a few seasons.
I continue to be impressed by the world building dynamic you construct, whether it was Jamie Manning being related to Peyton and Eli or even now with the Carter brothers being related despite living in separate states (something I can relate to, my older brother graduated from HS in VA and then we moved and I graduated a year later in NC - even my younger brother and I have different last names). It's so subtle to do but if makes a huge impact for realism to those who notice which you know people who read your work do.
I appreciate the kind words on the stories. One of the things I try to avoid with these reports is having it become just a boring, simplified list of box scores and generic game articles. I find that it is the off-the-field stuff that keeps me most engaged. Even in real life, I enjoy the off-season of the NFL and NCAA as much if not more than the season itself, so I am having a blast this particular off-season, where I am starting anew and learning/building a new program.
I feel that the more you give your players (and coaches) real life stories, the more real and organic your dynasty experience will feel.

Friday, January 29, 2027....
The Aggies' offense finished ranked 10th in the nation in yards per game (470.2 ypg) and 12th in scoring offense (32.3 ppg) in 2026. New Tigers OC Anthony High (above) hopes to achieve similar numbers next season in Baton Rouge.
TEXAS A&M QB COACH, FORMER TULANE GREAT ANTHONY HIGH NAMED LSU'S OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR
Geezy: High to bring an "aggressive, Shotgun-heavy yet pro-style approach" to Baton Rouge | High sees many similar traits to himself and current Tigers starting QB Rob Mason, hopes to mesh offensive style from his playing days at Tulane with his time spent with the Aggies | Hiring of High continues trend of Geezy giving former players opportunities despite what took place at Tulane with his former O.C. Joe Roberts
Exclusive report courtesy Taylor Bisciotti of ESPN's SEC Network
New LSU head coach D. Geezy made his first significant hire on Friday as he and the university introduced Texas A&M assistant coach Anthony High as the team's new offensive coordinator. High, who has spent the past three seasons as the Aggies' quarterbacks coach, is a name LSU fans may remember, as he helped orchestrate a 45-7 Tulane victory over the Tigers in 2015 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, LSU's worst loss to the Wave since 1948.
After an unsuccessful stint in the NFL, Anthony High has achieved success in the coaching ranks and hopes to bring LSU's offense to the next level.
Under High's tutelage, Aggies senior QB Brian Hardin was consistently one of the most efficient passers in college football, throwing for 101 touchdowns and only 25 interceptions in 3 1/2 years as a full-time starter. Hardin threw for 33 touchdowns and 8 interceptions as a junior before throwing for 37 touchdowns (4th in NCAA) and only 7 interceptions as a senior in 2026. Hardin also rushed for 428 yards last season, and his 73% completion percentage in his final year at College Station ranked 2nd in the nation behind only Georgia Tech QB Von Horn, who threw 147 fewer pass attempts; High hopes to bring that same level of efficiency to Baton Rouge next fall.
"I'm excited to get to work and get this offense to the next level," said High, whose shotgun-heavy offense produced two 1,000 yard receivers last fall - junior TE Kelly McCoy (108 rec., 1,477 yds, 13 tds) and senior WR Daniel Mosley (79 rec., 1,142 yds, 11 tds).
"I feel like this was a perfect fit for my family and I. The familiarity with coach Geezy and also the region played a big part in the decision to come here, and I am also fired up about the pieces we have on offense.
"QB Rob Mason is a guy I am really pumped up to work with. With his 4.4 speed, he really reminds me a lot of myself as a player, and I plan to do a lot gameplan wise to take advantage of his legs and get him into space, including sometimes lining him up at receiver like I used to do at Tulane. This is going to be fun."
Since bolting Tulane for the NFL following a stellar junior season, High has been well-traveled. After being drafted in the 6th round by the Las Vegas Raiders (then in Oakland) in the 2016 draft, the Clute, Texas native would bounce around on multiple teams' practice squads for four seasons before going back to school in his home state of Texas at the University of Houston as a graduate assistant for three years (2020-2022). He'd go on to spend the 2023 season as an offensive assistant at Texas A&M before being promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2024, a position he'd hold for three years and helped lead the Aggies to a 9-4 record last fall along with a 38-31 victory over USC in the Alamo Bowl.
Geezy indicated on Friday that he's excited to offer High his first big career opportunity at the coordinator level.
High finished his collegiate playing career with a 15-1 record and was a key figure in the turnaround of Tulane's football program 12+ years ago.
"I have said it time and time again that I believe a lot in taking care of my own and Anthony certainly qualifies as a guy I enjoyed being around a little over a decade ago and someone I feel has always had the coaching traits," said Geezy, who ironically was replaced at head coach by one of his former players, Joe Roberts, at Tulane two weeks ago.
"But more importantly, the guy has the credentials. He's an up-and-comer and someone both (LSU A.D.) Joe Alleva and I feel can take this unit to the next level.
"I'm even more so excited for him to work with Rob, who I think shares a lot of similar traits to Anthony way back when he was a player and can do a lot of the things Anthony did, like line up in the slot and catch passes on occasion. This is going to be an exciting partnership."
At Tulane, High went 15-1 as a starter, with his only loss coming in his senior season in a 38-37 game played in a blizzard at Arkansas in 2015, a game in which High played through a pectoral injury that caused him to miss the previous week's contest. He'd go on that year to help Tulane win its first SEC Championship since returning to the conference the year prior, and was a catalyst for the Green Wave's ascent into the ranks of college football's elite and spearheaded a changing of the guard in the SEC West.
"This is a young coach that is hungry, innovative, and will bring something fresh and exciting to Tiger Stadium on Saturday nights next fall," said Geezy. "I am pretty hyped up about having Anthony in the fold and cannot wait to get to working with him on building this offense."
Editor's Note:
This offensive coordinator change will be manifested video game-wise by me changing my team's offensive playbook from "Ole Miss" to "Texas A&M." We will also be leaning much heavier on shotgun formations and you may even see some unorthodox formations with the quarterback lined up in the slot, both staples of Tulane's offense during High's time as a player under Coach Geezy. We will also try to emulate the statistical performance of the Aggie's offense last season, which featured a high-percentage passing game and fed both the tight end and top receiver heavily while also maintaining balance and producing a 1,000 yard rusher.

Your continued GOAT-ness makes the rest of us look bad...just sayinghaha but seriously, love the work you’re doing early in recruiting. If you can land even just one or two of those splash prospects, that’s usually a great start to a new regime.

Plus, it also gives me an opportunity to pay homage to past characters that had a significant impact on the backstory. I am very big on not letting the past just vanish; for me, it has to mean something, and this is my way of making that happen. If High was from a different state, we almost definitively would have a completely different playbook than the one I chose.
I was worried about how I'd feel about the team switch, but I think this story has a very good chance to be even more fun and entertaining for me than the Tulane era. The gaming gods are already blessing me with some fun story seeds to plant.Click here to read my dynasty report:

LSU Tigers News Clips
CB Ryan Carter (LEFT) and WR Brady Carter Jr. (RIGHT)
Recruiting | Carter brothers commit to LSU
Fri, 30 Jan 2027 13:01:44 -0700
MaxPreps reports that 4-star Louisiana CB Ryan Carter (6-2, 176, 4.46 40 time, #14 rated CB) and 4-star Kentucky WR Brady Carter Jr. (6-0, 163, 4.38 40 time, #6 rated WR), who did not market themselves as a package deal despite being half-brothers, have both committed to sign with LSU at next week's National Signing Day. The dynamic pair, who as previously reported share the same father and were separated as a result of Hurricane Ramone four years ago, both announced their joint-decision via Instagram, one hour after new Tigers head coach D. Geezy cryptically tweeted LSU's traditional recruiting catchphrase after landing a big prospect - "Hold that Tiger."
"Coach Geezy really sold us on the opportunity for us to play together," said the brothers in their joint statement. "LSU was the only school that was in both of our top 3's, and it felt like we were destined to play together. We cannot wait to sign the dotted line next Wednesday and spend our next few years together in Baton Rouge. Geaux Tigers!"
The acquisition of both players should offer immediate boosts to their respective positions on LSU's depth chart. Ryan, the younger sibling by two months, will almost assuredly see immediate playing time in the Tigers' razor-thin secondary, while Brady's 4.38 speed should fit in nicely with new offensive coordinator Anthony High's scheme.
The pair will join RB Scottie Rodgers (5-11, 211, 4.54 40-time, #10 rated RB), a 2027 early signing period commit, and returning junior TE Lucas Rodgers, LSU's leading receiver last season, as the second pair of siblings set to be on the Tigers' roster this upcoming year.

Huge win on the recruiting trail for the Tigers there! Any help in that WR core is going to be huge. If your game world is anything like the real world you should be able to replenish that secondary with ease. Hopefully this is the start of that!

Sorry I was absent for a few days my friend. Absolutely love the latest news out of Baton Rouge. A blast from the past there with Anthony High. I remember being disappointed all those years ago when he made the decision to bolt for the NFL early. What a great storyline you have weaved out of it. I also appreciate and love the throwback to my "Slice Off the Old Block" column from back in the day.
It will be interesting to see you in more of a shotgun look offense here again. I will be curious to see who emerges in your wide receiving corp. Do you anticipate being pretty up tempo as well?
Huge pair of commitments and a nice storyline with the Carter brothers. SO cool that you tied it back to the Hurricane Ramone story. You really are the GOAT at this. Loving this so much. Still anxious to see if you land the linebacker.

I won't be so sure about the defensive backs being replinished easily though. We struggled mightily in that area at Tulane in recent years and it developed into a major Achilles heel for us. And when I finally was able to land a couple of blue chip safeties, I got the boot before I even got a chance to use them!

Glad you clicked on the link to your article. I was really hoping that you would of all people. Classic stuff right there and it deserved to have attention called to it once again.
As far as the offense, I'm not envisioning any type of up-tempo, no huddle style. We will still be methodical with our approach and have a focus on ball control. I've heard many coaches say this over the years - just because you run a spread doesn't mean you abandon ball control principles. RB Scottie Rodgers will still be a bell-cow for us.
I appreciate the kind words as always and love that even to this day, you still pick up on all of the Easter eggs this story has to offer. It's no wonder you're in the medical field, with a memory that great. I knew you'd enjoy that Anthony High call-back, and I think you might enjoy this next bit of news as well...Click here to read my dynasty report:

Sunday, January 31, 2027....
Following a brief stint with Florida St., former Green Wave defensive coordinator Charles Kelly has spent the past three seasons as Tennessee's special teams coach and is now joining forces again with Coach D. Geezy, this time in Baton Rouge.
After 8 years of separation, Geezy hires former Tulane defensive coordinator Charles Kelly to run LSU's defense along with another pair with ties to his old team | Kelly ran 4-2-5 defense in latter years with the Seminoles, will bring similar style defense to Baton Rouge | "Consultation call" inadvertently turns into an informal job interview, results in Geezy and Kelly reunion despite a somewhat tumultuous divorce in 2019 | Former Wave staffer Steve Ellis, and coaching rookie Mark Richards to join Kelly in Baton Rouge in hopes of turning around the Tigers 'D'
Report courtesy Eve Jewell, ESPN/SEC Network
The two men spent 9 seasons together at Tulane and together won two Conference USA titles, five SEC titles, and 2 national championships before going through what many would call a painful divorce in 2019, amidst much controversy. However in recent days and weeks, new LSU head coach D. Geezy and his former defensive coordinator Charles Kelly, who was most recently Tennessee's special teams coach, hugged it out and agreed to terms on a three-year contract for Kelly to become the Tigers' newest defensive coordinator.
Kelly, who won national titles with Tulane in 2016 and 2018, also won the 2020 national title at Florida St. just a year after leaving Geezy's side in New Orleans.
Kelly, who at age 60 is likely nearing retirement, accepted the position following several days of "hours-long" communication between himself and Geezy, discussing the intricacies of the 4-2-5 defense, a defensive alignment Geezy had reportedly been interested in instituting during his final year at Tulane. The consultation calls quickly evolved into something else, with the two men spending hours breaking down tape via webinar while also reminiscing about their time earning championship rings together with the Green Wave. It wasn't long before Kelly was on a plane from Knoxville to Baton Rouge to visit in-person with Geezy and with LSU athletic director Joe Alleva, and it wasn't long after that that a deal was struck between the parties.
"We spent a lot of time together analyzing the work he did at FSU and we just feel like this is the best fit for us both," said Geezy. "Things really didn't start to gain traction until a report emerged about us looking hard at running a 4-2-5. Charles actually contacted me and we spent probably 8 hours communicating over the course of three days and spent several hours breakdown film via a shared web screen, and we just hit it off, again."
According to sources, the two men were close to re-joining forces in 2024 when Tulane's defensive coordinator post became vacant, however Geezy was thwarted by Tulane university officials, who did not want to take another chance on Kelly for public relations reasons, and the job ended up going to Karl Dunbar.
At the surface of Tulane's concerns was that Kelly was suspended in 2019 by the NCAA due to an alleged bounty scandal, and later that year, Kelly reportedly got Geezy in hot water after inadvertently bringing the world to the attention that Geezy had FOX reporter Erin Andrews in his hotel room at an inappropriate hour the day prior to a 62-27 blowout loss to Arkansas. Despite winning national championships together in 2016 and 2018, Geezy and Kelly decided to part ways, but that's now in the past.
"I've said time and time again that I thought a lot of what went on between Coach Kelly and myself was mischaracterized," said Geezy. "We are still friends to this day, as evidenced by the tweet he sent for the world to see back when it was announced I was walking away from Tulane."
As previously mentioned, Kelly will deploy a 4-2-5 defense at LSU. The major, overarching philosophy of the defensive scheme is versatility while keeping five defensive backs on the field for the majority of plays. The system utilizes 4 down lineman, two linebackers, and five defensive backs, including a "Star" safety/linebacker hybrid as the fifth defensive back, and a "Buck" linebacker/defensive end hybrid as a down lineman in some formations.
The idea with the 4-2-5 is to be able to defend everything well without selling out to stop one certain area of an opponent’s repertoire. Two massive bodies up front makes it difficult for an offense to consistently run the ball, having the Buck guarantees some versatility with coverages and blitzes, and the Star is meant to defend teams that prefer to play in space while not sacrificing too much size against the run.
"Our first priorities out of the gate are obviously recruiting," said Kelly, who knows that at age 60, his time coaching is running short. "We know these things take time, but we will need to get more playmakers here in these last few days before National Signing Day."
"Then after that, we'll put all of our pieces on the table and figure out our depth chart, including who our "Buck" will be and who our "Star" will be, then go from there. Right now, the first guy that jumps out to me on the roster as a Star candidate is our 6-7 SS Mario Reed. He looks like an ideal DB/LB tweener, but we'll see how the roster shakes out once we get to the spring.
"That said, I can't express enough just how pumped I am to be working alongside coach 'D' again. It'll take some time and it will not occur overnight, but we think we can turn this into a special defense and hopefully we can win a few more dangum rings together before it is time for me to sail into the sunset."
ELLIS, RICHARDS TO ALSO JOIN STAFF
In addition to the hiring of Kelly, LSU has also announced that another pair of men with ties to Coach Geezy at Tulane have been hired - Steve Ellis and Mark Richards. Ellis, who served as Geezy's defensive coordinator with the Green Wave from 2020-2024, will join the Tigers' staff as its defensive backs coach.
Geezy, Kelly, and Ellis all worked together at Nicholls St. University over two decades ago, while Geezy and Ellis also shared time on the field together for the Division I-AA Colonels in the late 90's/early 00's. Ellis' contract was not renewed at Tulane in 2024 after multiple up-and-down seasons by the team's defensive unit under his control. A hybrid safety/cornerback/linebacker during his playing days, Ellis is a perfect fit to assist Kelly in the implementation of the 4-2-5 defense in Baton Rouge.
A LaPlace, Louisiana native, Richards spent three seasons with the Green Wave terrorizing offenses, and finished his career with 265 tackles, 25 sacks, and 7 interceptions, along with touchdown above versus Georgia Tech 14 years ago.
"When it came down to it, me and coach 'D' will always be boys," said Ellis, who has spent his past three years at Middle Tennessee St. as the team's cornerbacks coach and recruiting coordinator. "I ain't gonna lie, I was mad when I wasn't retained at Tulane, but I know this is a business. We remained cool, as did me and coach Chuck, and now we're ready to get back at it like we did back in the day."
Richards, who played for Geezy from 2012 through 2014 at Tulane, joins LSU as its linebackers coach. Richards recently announced his retirement from the NFL following an 11-year career, all with the Houston Texans and Seattle Seahawks, and has no previous coaching experience, but should have no issues with a transition from wearing a helmet to wearing a headset after his long and successful professional football career, which included winning the 2020 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award. In addition to coaching the team's linebackers, the Louisiana native who terrorized SEC defenses with the Wave while playing the "Slash" linebacker position under Kelly, will also be responsible for coaching the team's "Buck" position, which is essentially the same as his collegiate Slash position.
"Coach Geezy told me a long time ago when I played for him that if I ever wanted to coach just give him a shout, and that's just what I did," said Richards, who has never won a championship at any level, as he left Tulane following his junior season, just one year prior to the Green Wave's 2016 national title. "I retired just a couple of weeks ago, and I was already missing football and not being a part of a team. When I reached out to coach and then heard about him and Coach Kelly getting back together, it was a no-brainer. LSU was a rival of ours back then, but I am ready to be a Tiger now and to not only finally win a championship from a personal standpoint, but to also bring another college football title to my home state."
Editor's Note:
This defensive coordinator change will be manifested video game-wise by me changing my team's defensive playbook from "Multiple D" to "4-2-5," which I learned this week is the defense Kelly ran in his last few seasons at Florida State in real life; I suppose the reunion was destiny, as I have been wanting to run a 4-2-5 for a while now.
The hiring of Ellis will be manifested simply by our team being partial to versatile defensive backs (cornerback/safety hybrids) like he was in his playing days in recruiting, while the hiring of Richards will be manifested by us making it a point to seek out linebacker/defensive hybrids like he was during his days.
