Re: Official MLB 19 : Road to the Show Thread

So just coming to the end of the 2020 season.

Like so many, got drafted by the Orioles and I'm still there. Spend the whole of 2019 in the minors, but have spent the whole of 2020 in the Majors, almost all at LF. The team sucks (I'm the best hitter on it, with an 80 rating) but it looks like we might avoid losing 100 games.

Mostly it's been a great experience.....but my only major gripe has been the AI roster management. In July, it just went insane.

I get that the Orioles are still in rebuild mode, so doing a bunch of trades to acquire young talent for older vets would make sense. But in fact what happened over the course of about two weeks was:

    1) They traded away our closer (Kelvin Herrera) for prospects (fair enough)
    2) They acquired Josh Bell for prospects (harder to justify, but I guess he filled a need, and has a couple of years of team control left)
    3) They acquired Alex Colome for their best pitching prospect (Hunter Harvey; this would never happen)
    4) They then put Colome in the rotation, despite a stamina in the 20s
    5) They acquired Aaron Sanchez for their second best pitching prospect and a couple of others (really?)
    6) They traded Josh Bell straight up for Addison Russell after he'd been with the team less than 10 days

There were half a dozen other minor trades on top of this.

Basically at the end of it, half the team was new and it wasn't really any better or younger than it had been. I was just relieved when the trade deadline came round and things could stabilize for a bit!

Anyone else experience something like this? It does break immersion a bit when the fictional GM makes a trade a day without any apparent objective or plan...…..

Some advice.... take it or leave it but works for me. Bump your trade slider down a bit. Then.... after every series, couple series, month... whatever you prefer.... keep a save that you can go back to. I personally keep one that I save over and over the previous one after every series until I get past the trade deadline. Then you rinse and repeat at beginning of next season. You want/need the ability to go back and reverse a dumb deal, because it's laughable the number you will see. The roster management in road to the show if you don't do this is terrible and it at least gives you a bit of control.

Everyone should do that!!! Yesterday I saw the Orioles and the RedSox trade two unknown players back in forth 3 times over 2 weeks...

That's seriously Player1 VS Player2 on June 15th, then reverse the trade on the 24th to finally push the same Original deal at the deadline...

Still haven't decided if it's funny or sad...

Won it all with the braves in 2021. Hit 4 homers in the World Series ..... 3 of em in 1 game. Finished the season at .345 / 44 HR / 118 RBI. Didn't win the MVP but what a season. Can't remember a season I've enjoyed more playing with Acuna, Albeis, Freeman, Swanson, etc. Rolling into the 2021 season with almost all the key roster still in place. Signed a 17.1 million dollar per year contract that will take me to my free agent season.

Some more thoughts and info after wrapping up another full season. I played every AB, every fielding opportunity, and had baserunning set at a combination of all, lead runner, and action pitches depending on the circumstances. I can't stress enough the difference I see how you play as a team after you have gotten your relationships with your teammates developed to the "friendly" or "bro" level. There was some videos I saw before the game dropped about how it would impact how you play as a team. It can be the difference between a guy in the higher 70's lower 80's playing or pitching at a much higher level. Also.... Perks perks perks. Love the addition of these. If it's not your thing I get it.... but I personally enjoy it, especially the ones that give your teammates boost. After I got my player into the mid 80's I optioned the perks that improve teammate hitting. (Day games, home games, etc.) It makes a difference. The hitting perks also make a difference, especially when your grinding your player up. I think the best combination is the Commander in Chief and Beating Heart perks. I'm currently working on the Lightning Rod ones but I've been on the same team since the draft so I'm running out of players to develop relationships with. lol

I wasn't a fan of the slow grind in the beginning - the absence of the ability to buy RTTS points and ability to put points on the categories you want, but I'm having fun in the mode regardless. There's a different level of appreciation for player performance after a 2 or 3 season grind to get there. I love the fielding changes and I have had zero issues with hitting regardless of the negative feedback post patch. It's tougher... and I love it.

Are injuries in DD a thing again ? Had Cueto injured in the second inning from a come backer in a RS game. Haven't seen one injury prior to that since MLB 17

Totally agree!! I was drafted by Baltimore and then sent packing to the Cards after one season. Our team was horrible the first two years. Now that ive worked on relationships, year 3 we are tied with the Brewers atop the NL Central with one month to go. Ive really enjoyed watching my player grow from .310/15/78 numbers in the beginning to .350/30/101 numbers now. Love the challenge instead of having a rookie player at 99 overall

Yep... I'll roll into the 2022 season with an 87 overall player and I'm not complaining.

The Brewers are good on my game. I swept them in the 2021 NLDS and then played the Cubs in the NLCS. Good luck on the playoff run.

It's an awesome feeling when you win the WS and it's legit hard.

I won the WS with the Indians in 2022 after being heart broken the 3 seasons before it.

Usually just read the forum but have a question about RTTS. I only got the game last week and have started as SS, got drafted by the Padres. After about 2 months of Double A and hitting about .350 I got called all the way up to the Padres and I've been doing okay hitting about .300 but only 2 HR but I'm a contact player so the power is a working progress.

Anyways after the first season they offered me a 1 year contract for $1.5m, I accepted it. My question is how does it work, I was under the influence I had to wait 6 years till Free Agency and 3 years till Arbiration. Am I going to get another contract offer at the end of season 2 as It was only a 1 year contract? What happens if I reject it?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this but I'm English and this is all abit new to me.

                              Give it my best shot....

You cannot be a "Free Agent" until you have 6 years of MLB service time. The team that has your rights can pay you the minimum or offer you whatever you would like at any point. You have seen more of this in real baseball this year than ever with players like Ronald Acuna, Ozzie Albies, etc signing long term deals well before they are eligible for free agency. In my RTTS season....after the 2021 season I signed a deal with the Braves for 17 million a season that gets me to my 6 years of service time when I can become a free agent. If you reject the offer the team gives you they just sign you to the minimum or to that offer at the end of the offseason.

Here is a better explanation of everything around free agency.
