Warming up a Pitcher?

Are you required to warm up a pitcher before they can effectively come into the game? Or is there a setting to not require warming the pitcher up and they come in with full effectiveness?

I am not referring to the "warm up" mini game as I see an option for that, just trying to understand if I need to manually warm up pitchers before bringing them in. Didn't see a setting so wasn't sure, although certainly part of baseball, I would prefer not to have to.

There use to be a setting under General, Decisions that you could turn warmup off. If it's not there I'm not sure where it would end up being or if they removed it.

Thanks, the only option I could find is turning of the warm up mini game which I do have that turned off. But when putting pitchers in, still asks me if I want to warm up the pitcher. Since it asks me this, I am assuming I am required to warm up a pitcher if I want their full effectiveness but wasn't sure and if so, was hoping there was a setting somewhere that could skip that.

The warm up pitcher you brought in is so you can get used to his windup with whatever pitching mechanic you’re using.

You’re not required to do this and it doesn’t have any impact on how effective a pitcher may be on a given day

Thanks, but I believe that is in relation to playing the warm up mini game. I was referring to warming up a pitcher in general where you don’t play the mini game but there is an option to have them warm up in the background. Trying to figure out if that is needed. I assume it is otherwise not sure why it would be in the game unless there is a setting somewhere where that can be turned off.

Re: Warming up a Pitcher?

I have been playing since the David Ortiz cover but I’m not sure what you folks are referring to by ‘warm up mini game’.

In franchise I always warm relievers up in the bullpen as well as taking all eight of my on mound warm up pitches. The latter seems to affect the pitchers confidence in individual pitches in a positive way (as long as you throw good pitches).

Is what I described the mini game or is it something else?

I believe the 8 pitch warmup is considered the mini game at least according to the description on the setting screen

Yes, you need to warm them up from the bullpen screen prior to coming into the game, otherwise they will start with less energy/confidence than they normally would, potentially making their pitching erratic. Regardless of what setting you have for the "Warm Up Relievers" option in General > Decisions. That setting only enables/disables the warm up minigame, which can add a little bit of readiness to an incoming pitcher as well as let you familiarize yourself with their pitches/pitch gestures on Pinpoint.
