Closers Pulled Too Quickly

Really like the new changes to bullpen logic as it is much improved. But I am finding that the CPU is pulling its closer too soon. If the closer gives up a couple of hits in the 9th, CPU often pulls him.

Anyone else seeing this?

I don't have '25 yet, but I'm assuming there's still a slider for CPU reliever hook (or something along those lines...).

I'd suggest bumping it up a notch.

Cheers!

My last game was against the Phillies. They were up 3-1 going into the 9th. Closer comes in and I get 2 singles and a walk to load the bases with no outs. Judge comes up next and hits a bases clearing double to give me the lead 4-3. They didn't pull the closer until I took the lead. That's really the only time I've gotten to a closer in this game, so that's my only experience with it.

I've only seen this if the closer has thrown a ton of pitches, or he blows the save.

Re: Closers Pulled Too Quickly

I don’t really have a problem with this, and here’s why. I had a reliever getting shilled in a go home series just the other day. It was an incredibly high scoring series and I was pretty much at the end of my bullpen. I mean my guys energies were cooked. So I just left my reliever in to continue getting shelled instead of just bringing in a position guy like in real life, and gave up another 5 runs. I pretty much gave up on the game. The problem was my reliever lost almost all confidence in all of his pitches and he never really gained them back with two months left to go. And he was having a pretty good season up to that point, but every time I used him he would get absolutely shelled due to lack of confidence. I even sent him down to the minors for about 6-8 weeks to help him get his stuff back. I essentially broke the guy for the whole season because I refused to put in a position guy who doesn’t really need confidence in his pitches

Re: Closers Pulled Too Quickly

Probably depends on how much energy the closer has coming into the game. It's not that uncommon for them to pitch multiple days in a row for good teams who actually create a lot of save opps, and if their energy drops too low during a save attempt that might be why they're getting pulled.

Are your stamina sliders something different from default? Those do affect simmed games (one of the few sliders that do), so if reliever stamina was below default for example it could make the closer end up expending too much energy per save, and potentially already be in the yellow when entering the game for your "played game" save. They're liable to be pulled at any time after the 3 batter minimum if that's the case because their effectiveness takes a hit after 50%, similar to a starter's effectiveness at 25%.

Just want to add that I've not seen this, personally - just trying to offer suggestions on what might be happening. I'd keep an eye on how much energy a closer has when they first enter the ballgame and then look to adjust from there. I used to lower stamina sliders a lot for simmed games in past years to help combat the long reliever innings issue, but this year the logic doesn't really need intervention like that - it uses the middle relief just fine.

Thanks all for feedback. I am not sure if the Closer was gassed in the multiple instances I have seen this. But my slider settings for hook are at default.

Re: Closers Pulled Too Quickly

I was just watching a stream of a franchise game. It was 4-2 in the 9th. Runners got on 1st and 2nd with TWO outs they pulled the CP after he walked a guy. I have not experienced anything like that in the 40 games I've played in my franchise. I couldn't tell you if I had a time where it identical situation and it would trigger however. That was very strange and no good to see imo.

Also, they brought in a lefty to face a right handed batter. So it was just their normal MRP, probably SU guy.
