I have both, but have only played Grand Slam Tennis thus far.

Grand Slam is fun but flawed.

See the review thread on it for more details.

I am looking to get into Virtua Tennis later today after work.

I just spent an hour with VT and man is the difference between it and GST huge.

The motion controls feel really shoehorned into VT, and the game suffers big-time because of it.

I will get into more detail later, but I think it's clear as day that GST is the game you want if you're looking for the tennis game that makes the best use of the new motion technology.

Re: Grand Slam Tennis vs. Virtua Tennis 3 (wii) ?

VT has the better career mode in terms of options and variety.

Problem is, you progress up the rankings at a snail's pace (literally one or two spots per tournament win) and there is NO STAT BUILDING like there has been in every Virtua Tennis game to date.

That last one's a real puzzler.

Grand Slam Tennis, flaws and all, suddenly looks a ton better after playing VT.

Neither game is great, but GST seems a lot closer to being good, though not quite there, while VT seems to be quite sub-par overall.

I'm trying to figure out if VT at least has classic controller or wavebird support to make it somewhat fun, but I haven't gotten it to work yet.

It may be a Wii-mote only game like GST, which would be really bad in VT's case.

Re: Grand Slam Tennis vs. Virtua Tennis 3 (wii) ?

My sources told me that GST Motion Plus is phenomenal and VT is the same ole product we are use to seeing...

And unless you love the way the career mode is set up in VT (I Don't), then thats the only thing VT has going...

I am more in favor of a more realistic career ranking mode where you lose, you drop in rankings, you win, you go up in ratings. You want to play in a Grand Slam and don't have the rankings, you have to play in a qualifying tournament to get in just like Wimbledon and the US Open.

But game play wise GST all the way

Re: Grand Slam Tennis vs. Virtua Tennis 3 (wii) ?

Yep I just read through the VT manual and it confirms that the game can only be played with the Wii remote.

What a dumb move by Sega.

First they waste their time trying to implement a control scheme that doesn't fit their fast-paced, arcade brand of tennis.

Then they disable the one control scheme that would have actually made the game its usual, fun self.

I now see no reason to own the Wii version of VT at all.

Fans of the series would be better off with the 360 VT, and fans of the new motionplus controls are better off with the slower, "simulation-lite" approach in Grand Slam Tennis.

Re: Grand Slam Tennis vs. Virtua Tennis 3 (wii) ?

I dunno about the Wii but VT 2009 is AWFUL on the 360 so far,so based on that I'd say go with GST. It says 3 but I'm guessing you mean 2009.

I'm not much of a tennis guy in general so maybe it's not as horrid as I think it is and I'll play more to try and find out while I have it rented but intial impressions are very bad.
