How EA can fix the Speed issue....

I've been seing a lot of posts on the speed of the game being too fast, and i'm sure once the game is released this will be a main issue.

I really don't think that the ball or player movements are too fast, i think the real problem is the amount of possessions and the lack of build up by both sides.

On defense it is way too easy to hold X or O and have your player rush in and steal the ball only to have a defender coming rushing in and take the ball back. This back and forth with constant turnovers prevents anyone from really taking their time to set up an offense.

In a real game the offense player would blow by a defender who was running full speed trying to take the ball. If the defender did get a foot on it he wouldn't be able to take possession while maintaining full stride going the opposite direction.

The real issue is that their needs to be a more challenging method requiring skill and patience while on defense to steal the ball away from opponent instead of holding one button down while your defender swoops in to steal the ball. Right now it is a rushed game of ping pong keep away as we know once the defender gets close the ball is changing possession.

This is the problem. From the demo it doesn't look like it's been fixed but apparently there have been three builds since then.

The developers claimed that holding A and B (X and O) the entirety of a game will not guarantee that you'll steal the ball each time (and you players'll be dead tired as a result) but it doesn't look like that's the case as computer can still seem to do it very easily.

They've made the strikers slower compared to the defenders so as to force you to pass to the middle of the field more, but once there, the X and O buttons still do their jobs just as well. Only this time the person that they're going to be smashing into is probably going to be a smaller, slower midfielder like a Xavi or Iniesta so they're almost guaranteed to get the steal.

If constant sprinting really does what it's supposed to to a guy's stamina then we might be alright, but I from the demo and from what I've heard from guys who gone to these community play days, it doesn't look like it's been done.

The build up play issue has a lot to do with the mentality in the midfield. Defenders are too aggresive in the middle of the pitch. The offensive player has a huge advantage when he is right in the middle because he can go in any direction. But, the computer still treats it as if he is in the corner looking to cross. There is too much possession change in the midfield because of it

^ This is the most annoying thing, specially when playing against an inferior club/team. In reality, they would play it safe and drop back to defend, but it seems like all teams controlled by the AI like to pressure really far up the field and clog up the middle while leaving themselves exposed to easy counter attacks.

Not sure if you know it or not, but there was a minor (and tedious) fix for this in 09. Just edit the CPU teams custom tactics and put aggresion and pressure way down. We should have same capabilities in Fifa 10

Re: How EA can fix the Speed issue....

I tried this already, as well as reducing build up speed and creating different profiles for the most of the top three leagues clubs, but I got mixed results. The AI seemed to struggle to produce goals and the midfield would still get clogged. Hopefully the sliders yield better results in 10.

From playing the demo I don't see it as a problem. I actually try to build up the attack. I will try to counter attack if it is there, but if not I will slow it up and use the midfield to work it around. Best game I played in the demo i won 3-0.

Shots were both 3 each and i had possession 57 percent of the time. I know it was only 3 minute halves but I didn't need to just try to score which is why I was 100 % on shooting in the game. As for defense I held them to only 3 shots and it seemed as if they weren't just trying to get it to a striker and take on my defender one-on-one.

Computer rarely, if ever, tries that. Even in '09. I've noticed that in this one they seem to almost always take the ball to the corner and cross it in. I like the early crosses that they put in but they cross the ball just a bit too much.

As for the possession, I've gotten over the 55% possession mark a number of times but it feels like it never results in anything as one small mistake and the counter is on. Even if you haven't committed everyone forward. As with '09, passing around the midfield or switching fields is possible but it's almost like you're doing it just to make the game resemble a real match as doing that doesn't help you pick out passes or anything.

I think they've tweaked the game since that demo though so maybe that's changed.
