(XBOX/PS2) Which Madden had the best franchise mode?

I dusted off the old FatBox and was playing Madden 08 but the franchise mode was terrible since everyone seemed to lose awareness.

Out of all the the old Maddens from that era, which one had the best franchise mode? I'm looking for good progression so I'm trying to sign 40 year old LT since all the young ones don't progress.

I loved 05 at the time (PS2) but I was also impressed with both 07 and 08 for PC (out of the bargain bin). No fancy graphics and the AI playcalling is just as questionable as now but those were solid games.

Madden 2005 for sure. Its the best madden game ever.
