Proper way to throw out baserunners (human v human)

so my buddy and i are playing online a lot...

as long as there is someone with mid range speed, we are both having hard hard time throwing guys out at second who are stealing.

what is proper way to do this?

-do you have to just throw fastballs?
-do you have to start pressing triangle as pitcher pitching (to preload?)
