NFL Player Safety, what is your opinion?

I think it's crap!

Im all for protecting players to a certain point when playing the game of football, when I say to a certain point I mean protecting players from dirty hits when a player is intentionally trying to hurt a player, like launching at a defenseless receivers head etc. But when a receiver makes a catch and lowers his head that causes helmet-to-helmet contact that's just a part of the game.

This is football, just like any other physical sports their is a high chance you will get hurt. IF YOU DON'T WANNA GET HURT DON'T PLAY THE GAME!! Players know the deal, the NFL is just trying to save some money, that's what its really all about at the end of the day, money.

The only problem I have is that the offensive player needs to be held accountable sometimes. It's always the defender's fault right now.

I don't think the game should change. I think the NFL should be honest about the risks of playing football and guys who want to play shouldn't hold the NFL liable for post-career issues.

I don't have a problem with rules changes being made as long as they don't alter the sport as a whole.

I see people still are having a hard time with the hitting a defenseless receiver penalties.
Some of them are warranted, and stop safeties, LB's, CB's whoever from completely annihilating a receiver.
Some though, like one that got called against Ryan Clark a few weeks ago, are not though.
I'm all for player safety, no need to go head hunting as a defender.

Re: NFL Player Safety, what is your opinion?

I am for player safety, but the NFL's version of it is comical. The intent here is clear and yet nothing will be done about it. But had he made contact he would've been fined. The intent here IMO is worse because you see clear as day what he was trying to do. Suspend him a game, like you did Ed Reed and start sending the message.

Next, the fact that the NFL still lets offensive linemen cut "defenseless" defenders is also a joke. Brian Cushing's injury was a "legal" block, from behind when he was out of the play. Then you saw the blocks against Casey Hampton who was engaged with the center and the guard cut his legs, he had no way of defending himself.

The NFL cares little for player safety, but they car a lot about the cases being litigated in the courts right now.

Re: NFL Player Safety, what is your opinion?

I dont understand when people say "The NFL doesnt care about player safety"

Anyway, I think its going overboard recently. The offensive players are never accountable. They instinctively brace for hits usually using the crown of their head as protection. Plus the head is anatomically close to the shoulders, the only part that the league thinks should be used to tackle anybody. Incidental head to head will happen forever. Some of those calls are ridiculous.

Re: NFL Player Safety, what is your opinion?

I say they don't care about player safety because of their actions, and the fact that like I mentioned it Slausesn's (sp) block on Cushing is perfectly legal, yet is wildly dangerous, and was the reason he tore his ACL on the play. yet the league hasn't and won't outlaw that block.
