NBA Live newb/questions/observations

Hey all!
Just got an xbox one, and am enjoying the NBA Live 15 6 hour trial. Previously I was an avid 2k guy on 360.

Totally loving the game, but I've noticed some frustrating stuff that everybody else has probably noticed too...
The question I'm asking is... Am I doing something wrong? Any tips?

1. Wide open shots, especially 3's, virtually never go in even if your release is great. Also, anything 'contested' or 'guarded' will not go down. And the 'contested'/'guarded' thing is certainly questionable.

2. Trying to drive to the basket, shooting with X and Right trigger... should be a layup or dunk, but half the time it becomes a lame low percentage jumper right under the basket... that clanks off the rim.
But the CPU drives and does layups at will.

I might just be doing it wrong. Am I normal?

Any suggestions?

Re: NBA Live newb/questions/observations

1. I find the only way to actually hit jumpers is to be 100% wide open.

This is good and bad. Good that the game rewards you for working a play and getting the right shot, but bad (and I mean, throw your controller at the screen bad) because it's just not realistic. Perfect release, guy on fire, high rated players etc... it doesn't matter, the shots just never drop if it's contested.

This is a huge flaw (design omission?) that hurts an otherwise impressive game.

2. I don't have this problem. The game is pretty good at determining if your path is blocked and will make you shoot a close range jumper if so. If you drive at the correct angle you'll get dunks and layups more often. Also make use of the hop step (triangle on PS4, I guess Y on Xbox) and the Euro step (same button but a double tap), it is very, very effective.

Thx for the response!
#1 wouldn't be so frustrating if I could tweak a fg slider!
#2 is probably more related to me just getting used to the controls, like you said.

I don't see the lack of jumper success either. For whatever reason, I'll still hit contested jumpers etc. I've posted a few streams showing jumpers off of the dribble, etc. I'm just familiar with feeling the Live game I think. Keep at it.

I went to the gameplay settings to change the shooting to "ratings only" and have had more success hitting jumpshots.
