Thanks for your patience.
The upgrade is complete, but you've probably noticed the forums are only showing posts up to about April 8. Posts made after that are still in the process of being moved over, and that should take another week or two. Feel free to start a new thread.
The site might feel a little slow while work continues. Engineers are staying on it through the night to get things moving faster again. Thanks for your patience.
Release is only one week away (less than that for EA Access Subscribers). Let's use this thread to discuss what things we plan to do with our Universe's and as a place to update them in the future. Feel free to add any rules that you plan on adding, as well.
I plan on running my Universe with mostly the UFC's current roster. There will be no Bruce Lee or Mike Tyson's in my Universe. I won't use most retired legends (Hughes, Liddell, Rutten, etc.) either, but I will bring back a few mid-level or recently retired guys (Kampmann, Philippou, etc.). I will have guys like Nick Diaz and Sonnen on suspension and once I reach the date that they will be off suspension in real life, then I will bring them back.
I'm going to incorporate things like injury suspensions, as well. Like if a fighter gets KO'ed they won't be able to fight again for 6 months. If they're in a war or get TKO'ed I'll make it a 3 or 4 month suspension. I'm still deciding on whether or not I want to add a random system for training injury's, but I'm fairly sure I will eventually.
I'm starting off with real life records/title holders, etc. and am adding as many real life fights as I can. Once I get past the first few real life events I'll start making it my own. I am currently adding where each fighter is from to my spreadsheet because I like to add fighters from a certain region to a fight card that takes place there and having that info will make creating fight cards a little easier.
Here's how I pick fighters that I use:
Starting off I basically pick who I like the best. If I don't really have a preference, then I will flip a coin. If I win that fight then I try to use that fighter again in their next fight and same thing with the CPU. Sometimes matchups with throw a wrench into that plan, but I try to let streaks ride the best I can.
Here's my #1 and #2 fighters for each weight class:
I already have about 8 or 9 fight cards made, and I'm having a very tough time incorporating every fighter on the roster. It could be impossible to get everyone involved without some sort of injury/suspension system. Besides that, my UFC 1 card is stacked with guys I can't wait to use:
Rockhold v Weidman
Souza v Romero
Barboza v Ferguson
Almeida v Caraway
Villante v Anderson
Maia v Lombard
I've almost finished loading everyone up into my spreadsheet with their Zuffa records and last 6 fights. My next step will be to go through each division and put everyone in three buckets. The A bucket will be everyone that is going to be active in my universe. The B bucket will be 'reserves' that I will call in if a guy drops out of the active list for retirement or just losing too much. The C bucket is inactive fighters. I'll play it by ear on how many active fighters I have in each class, but it'll be bare minimum 12 and more likely 15 for all and a couple more for some divisions. I'll do it based on their recent history and I'll also put a few guys in I like even if they don't have an impressive resume.
Going from the B bucket to A bucket could involve some sort of 4 man tournament or something similar, sort of like a mini-TUF, unless there's one guy that's clearly a better option.
I'll actually be holding off on starting my universe for a little while though. I want to play with career mode and UT for a while first before I start mixing my own stuff in.

Is there anyway you could send me the finished product I'm new to all this and want to start with the best options
Hey guys what kind of information are y'all adding into your spreadsheets? Right now I just have rankings obviously and previous fight information. I was looking for more ideas that anyone used that worked but did not make it too difficult to manage

I have title defenses and title reigns, as well as record, next fight and ranking. I've seen other people do awards as well.

I'll post it on here once I'm done, just have LHW and HW to go but I've got a newborn at home so I'm taking my time. Mine isn't nearly as advanced as some other people's.

No bother I need a simple one that I can work my head around

So far I have 1 sheet with rankings, 1 with events, 1 with injuries and 1 with title reigns.
Beside each fighter in my divisional rankings, I have used a arrow system(green for win,red for loss) and a number beside each one representing the win/loss streak each fighter is on just as a quick way to see who is on a win or loss streak to more easily schedule fights. Kind of like the UFC.com ranking system to see where a fighter was previously ranked, but mine is for wins and losses as I dont care too much about where a fighter was previously ranked. I have used their current win loss records to start and will update them as I do the fights. Fighters that fight in multiple divisions will be treated as seperate fighters and I have used their previous W/L in each division put beside them. Fighters that are highly ranked in LW, who fight at WW, will have to make their way through the division and i wont bump them up just because they were good in another division. I will also have an asterisk beside each fighter that I add to a fight card so I can quickly see who is scheduled and who is not.
The rest of the fighters not in the top 15 are guys on the cusp or semi retired(GSP is #15 in WW until he comes back, Benson Henderson is #15 since he left for Bellator, Nick Diaz is #15 until he is back from suspension). Im treating it almost its own division until someone drops out of the top 15 or I bring them "back".
I will probably add a sheet with fighters history, but I wont start that until I actually have a fight with said fighter (since I dont feel like going through 250 fighters and updating their previous fight histories) and it will only track my universe fights(again, for the same reason).
In the events sheet, I will have dates of events along with each event that is both scheduled and past. Probably a sheet for every "year" and try to schedule as many fights the UFC has on average into my year, maybe a few more.
Title reigns will be a simple sheet broken down by division, listing the current champs and previous champs with title defenses and title wins in it. Most likely will be very simple.
Lastly will be the injuries sheet, I want to have a list of every fighter who has either an injury suspension, injury or a "suspension" and have a return date beside each for when they can come back. I will probably have a random way to assign non fight injuries, post fight injuries and PED suspensions. Not quite sure how I am going to do that yet but will probably just use a list randomizer and have set injuries with set dates attatched. It wont be too in depth I just want a way to cycle through more fighters and and have fights get cancelled and fighters pull out. Plus I need to properly represent Cowboy Cerrone's fight frequency
Either way I am excited about this game and making my universe much more in depth than UFC 1's. I am always looking for more things to add to my spreadsheet and possible formulas as well, but I never use excell and will have to try and figure those out.
I have a semi-updated spreadsheet with a partial tutorial in Word in the attached folder. I haven't updated the records or rankings after the last PPV and there's still a few things that I want to add. I posted the tutorial last week in another thread and no one commented so I didn't plan on continuing it unless someone else was using it
You do have to have a little knowledge of excel, but nothing too bad. I barely even knew anything about excel when I started using it and was able to use it just fine.

ok im late to the party but what is Universe?? is it like WWE Universe where it tracks everyones win and losses and rivalries and stuff?
Yes, however there's nothing to track it in game so you you have to manually track everything yourself by using either spreadsheets or pen and paper. It can be as in-depth as you want it to be. It's mainly for offline use against the cpu, but I have played in a league with buddy online. Basically, it's up to you to make of it whatever you want.
