HOW OFTEN YOU CHANGE CUSTOM CONFERENCES?

To me, this has to be one of the best features of the game. I find myself dreaming of ways to arrange the teams. I am not even done with my second season's dynasty with UConn. I am ready to change the conferences around again. So, how often do you change them?

What would be the outcome if you created 4 or 5 super conferences and included the really good teams? Would they just beat each other up, and the weaker teams from the other conferences be left for the national title?

Re: HOW OFTEN YOU CHANGE CUSTOM CONFERENCES?

Everyone has different ideas. Personally, its about realism for me. I don't make a lot of changes, as teams aren't constantly moving each year. Maybe a couple every 3-4 years on average. When I do, I consider: prestige, competitive nature, geography, and...most importantly, media market. Conferences always want new media markets.

In 2019 I moved my teambuilder (Sonoma State) and Boise State to the big 12. They both presented new markets, and strong competition. In 2021, I moved SDSU, UConn, and Cincinnati into the Big 12 for the same reason. I removed Iowa State due to poor competition (had won like 9 games over 4 years), and moved them to the MAC which made more geographic sense, and it was a conference they could win some games in. Aside from rearranging a few others during those re-alignments, I haven't made changes other than ones seen in real life. So I've done two real conference shifts in 9 seasons.

some do promotion/relegation. For Example, you have two tiers in each area. In the west, Pac 12 is top tier and Mountain West is bottom. The top 1-2 MWC teams promote to the Pac 12 after each year, and the bottom two Pac 12 teams get demoted to the MWC each year. I've considered doing a dynasty this way, as its kind of a fun new take on college football.

So, the example above. If I created 4 or 5 super conferences with 16 teams each, and mainly did it it by their strength, would they just beat each other up and this would leave the weaker teams in the top spots for the BCS bowls?

Thanks.

I've never done it, so I can't comment. It seems to be fairly common, and I don't think guys would do it a lot if that was an issue.

Every other year by region, overall rating, and ranking.

Not necessarily, because the strength of schedule weight may be so drastic.

If Ohio State loses three games in a year, to Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia who are all really good teams and also only lost 1 or two games against similar competition the BCS computers will still view that as better than FIU winning 11 or 12 games in a conference with worse opponents.

I agonize over it for hours, trying different combinations in theory and story lines in my head. Then I talk myself out of the change.
