Classic Teams - MLB 18

Hey all,
Just installing my copy of MLB 18 and giving you the heads up that I'll be transferring my classic sets over possibly as early as this weekend. Each base roster set will span 3 decades with a classic franchise edition at each of the three levels, so you can also move teams up and down for use at the MLB level to mix things up so there's plenty of variety. These sets are ideal for playoff mode.

All teams will be 25 man and the first set will be posted on this first post once I've sorted the teams. These teams are well-traveled having come from as early as MLB 15, but edits and adjustments have been made along the way. A tip of the cap to the following roster creators as their fine work can be found in these sets: DrSublime, BigKlu, doncropper, Knight165, Rwings832, Dallmantor1, lortel7, JohnEKool, Aboti98, sc73ray, Marsl444. baumy300, and pjsnell10. Hope to have the first set out mid-August. I'll simply put out additional versions (at least 2 more) swapping some teams out. Hope you enjoy when finished and feedback is always welcome.

Also, at the bottom of this page, is info on my all-time top 50 roster set.

All-Time Top 50 roster set.
- Players were selected and ranked primarily using WAR but exceptions were made due to career milestones, awards and career stats. Also, if a player had a chance achieve a higher roster position on a team in which he didn't have his highest overall career WAR rating, I placed him there. Example > Keith Hernandez made the top 25 of the Mets (WAR 26.6) even though he was blocked at first base from the top 25 of the Cardinals (WAR 34.5)
- The top 25 players are at the MLB level and the next 25 at the AAA level. Each team has 12 pitchers and 13 position players. There are no duplicate players.
- All players were re-rated using JTommy's Career Ratings spreadsheet. I followed all the values for the most part with a few exceptions. Using the career values, the data is more concentrated and there are less extreme numbers (values in the 90s). With the fielding values, I inflated the numbers of the prime defenders for some separation. I didn't bother re-rating the pitchers' batting values as I'll be using the DH with these.
- The players at the AA level have not been re-rated so those overall ratings do not reflect career values. Those are players that never made the WAR cutoff, so I didn't re-rate them.

Re: Classic Teams - MLB 18

Just in case anyone's interested, I uploaded a top 50 all-time roster in the vault for MLB 17. The first team all-stars sit at the MLB level and the second team at the AAA level for each franchise. If you still have a copy of MLB 17, take them for a spin or take them to 18 as a franchise.

The breakdown I used for this all-time set was 24 pitchers and 26 position players. My main determiner of player placement was service time, but there were a few exceptions based on production. These are live ball era players only. I hope to take it over to MLB 18 as well, but I'll see how I get along with my classic teams first. Once again a huge shout out to sc73ray for his legwork as the spreadsheet he built for his WAR set was a terrific tool to narrow my player search for each franchise.

Still setting up my template for the porting of the rosters which is a little time consuming but well worth it. I hope to begin porting this weekend. I use the most current OSFM set and put all players that cannot be exported into the AA and A levels first. Then I edit all player numbers at the A level so imported players can pick up their proper jersey numbers relatively smoothly. I won't be setting lineups this time, and any jersey errors will have to be fixed by the end users. Once I'm set, I'll post the teams.

Re: Classic Teams - MLB 18

Just a heads up on those teams from the top 50s set. A few of the ratings changed slightly (not sure why)so you may have to set those to your liking. Also if you take it to a franchise in MLB 18, some players like Matt Cain(Clarence Furillo), Tim Lincecum (Bryan Bates) and Jake Peavy(Tyson Mota) get converted to those other players in brackets have to be edited.

Re: Classic Teams - MLB 18

Ignore the above issue. I fix it and posted the revised version in the vault. In the transfer, my rosters get slightly shuffled as some first-team guys get dropped to AAA but that's an easy fix. Enjoy!

I don't use the legends that come with the game. My rosters all have players that are created.

Re: Classic Teams - MLB 18

OK, I posted the first set of teams on the initial post of this thread. This set will cover present day to 1990. I am two-thirds of the way through the AL with this set. I might be moving some of these teams around to ensure there are no duplications at either of the three levels as I find this easier to do after I get all teams loaded. Again, the idea behind these sets is to be able to run three seasons simultaneously. This set will have a second version with some teams swapped out. There will also be a second complete set from 1980 - 1960 (I'll post the teams when I get to it) and a second version will accompany this set as well.

Re: Classic Teams - MLB 18

I hope to have the first version out for Classics 1.0 at the beginning of next week. Teams almost all ported but there will be changes to that initial list. The hardest part is juggling the teams to avoid duplication.
