Nobody Cares, Work Harder - A Baltimore Ravens Franchise (Madden NFL 20)

Ravens Set To Begin Lamar Jackson Era

BALTIMORE, MD - After a 2018 season that saw them finish with a 10-6 record and a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Wild Card Weekend, the Baltimore Ravens are ready to kick off 2019 this weekend in Miami Gardens, FL. There was a time during last year where it was expected that head coach John Harbaugh would be fired. But that’s a distant memory now as he was rewarded with a four-year contract extension in January that’ll keep him in Baltimore through the 2022 season.

The story of last year for the Ravens was the emergence of Lamar Jackson at the quarterback position. After 10 years with Joe Flacco under center, they moved on from the veteran in Week 11 in favor of their rookie first-round draft pick. Jackson didn’t disappoint, and the team lost just one game for the remainder of the regular season while claiming the AFC North crown. He was electric with the ball in his hands, finishing with nearly 1,900 total yards and 11 total touchdowns.

Baltimore has fully committed to Jackson as their starter, and promoted Greg Roman to offensive coordinator in order to build an offense around their dynamic quarterback. Expect to see plenty of option runs and pistol formations in order to take advantage of Jackson’s unique skill-set. The team added a number of offensive weapons in the off-season, including veteran running back Mark Ingram II who will step in as the immediate leader of the backfield. He brings a powerful, downhill running style that should compliment Jackson’s speed and agility very well. Also new to the offense is rookie first-round draft pick Marquise Brown, who adds elite speed to the wide receiver room.

Defensive coordinator Don Martindale will be forced to replace a number of key players from his NFL-best unit last season, including linebackers C.J. Mosley and Terrell Suggs. While this won’t be an easy task, the team is confident that some of their younger players will be able to step up and fill these gaps. The Ravens’ secondary was strong last season, and only got stronger with the addition of five-time All-Pro safety Earl Thomas III in the off-season. Led by cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey, Brandon Carr, and Jimmy Smith, their strength in one-on-one matchups gives Martindale the freedom to dial up heavy pressure with his front seven.

As is typical for any Harbaugh-coached team, special teams will be a strength. The “Wolfpack”, a Pro Bowl combination made up of kicker Justin Tucker, punter/holder Sam Koch, and long snapper Morgan Cox, will return for their eighth season together.

The Ravens kick off their 2019 season against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, September 8th at 1:00 PM from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL.

Re: Nobody Cares, Work Harder - A Baltimore Ravens Franchise (Madden NFL 20)

RAVENS SINK DOLPHINS, 33-6

MIAMI GARDENS, FL -- Baltimore looked dominant in their first game of 2019, as they put Miami away early and never looked back. But all eyes were on quarterback Lamar Jackson, who went down with an apparent rib injury in the third quarter and never returned to the game.

After the game, head coach John Harbaugh announced that Jackson broke his ribs. The team is hopeful that this injury will only cause him to miss weeks of action, not months. For at least the next few weeks though, they’ll turn to journeyman Robert Griffin III behind center.

Defensively, the Ravens were extremely solid and never allowed the Dolphins into the red zone. These types of efforts will be especially important while Jackson is out, as wins will likely need to come with the team’s running game and strong defense.

Baltimore returns home for their next game, which will kick off at 1:00 PM ET next Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

Re: Nobody Cares, Work Harder - A Baltimore Ravens Franchise (Madden NFL 20)

RAVENS FALL TO CARDINALS, 34-20

BALTIMORE, MD -- The loss of Lamar Jackson proved to be too tough for the Ravens this week, as they couldn’t hang on to beat Arizona in a mistake-prone game. Despite turning the ball over five times, they had a chance to win the game until the end.

Robert Griffin III had a shaky outing in his first start for Baltimore, turning the ball over three times and completing less than 50% of his passes. He seemed to do better as the game progressed however, and one of his interceptions came off of a deflection. Two additional fumbles by Marquise Brown and Hayden Hurst ended drives that would have finished with points.

The Ravens’ defense wore down as the game went on, with the offense continuously giving Arizona short fields to work with. David Johnson wore down their front seven, finishing with 205 yards rushing and averaging 6.8 yards per carry. Jimmy Smith shone, recording 2 interceptions off of Kyler Murray, but it wasn’t enough in the end.

Jackson is expected to miss at least the next few weeks of action, so this is Griffin III’s team until then. They can’t afford to lose every game until he returns, so stealing a win or two during this stretch is crucial.

The Ravens head to Kansas City next week to take on the Chiefs. The game kicks off at 1:00 PM ET.

Re: Nobody Cares, Work Harder - A Baltimore Ravens Franchise (Madden NFL 20)

CHIEFS TOPPLE RAVENS, 38-20

KANSAS CITY, MO -- In a rematch of one of the 2018 season's best games, the Chiefs proved too much for the Lamar Jackson-less Ravens. Plagued by turnovers once again, they got down early and were unable to climb back into the game.

Robert Griffin III was electric on the ground, running for 184 yards on just 13 carries. Unfortunately for Baltimore, his work through the air left a lot to be desired. While he threw for three touchdown passes, he also threw three interceptions. Through the last two games he's turned the ball over six times, which is obviously an unacceptable rate.

Defensively, the Ravens had no answer for Patrick Mahomes. Last year's MVP threw just four incomplete passes all day, and racked up 366 yards through the air. While Baltimore did a good job stopping the run, Travis Kelce and Mecole Hardman both had over 100 yards receiving.

The Ravens return home for their first divisional game next weekend as they face the 2-1 Cleveland Browns at 1:00 PM ET. Griffin III is expected to start the game behind center, with Jackson not expected to be ready until the following week.
