IGN NHL21 Review... a 6/10

Eddie is good people. I think both reviews make sense. If you've been a fan of the series already (and he clearly thinks the game was already in a good place) then I totally get where a 9 comes from since this is even objectively a pretty big year-over-year leap. I wasn't as high on the series coming into it so my review comes off on the lower end of things there.

That’s your opinion.. the gameplay is a lot better. The Cpu defence plays a lot smarter and I love the board play. Also BaP is great this year. That alone is at least a 6.

Franchise didn’t get touched much, but is one of the better ones in sports games. And CHEL is a great mode to play when you wanna go online.

I’d give it an 8.5

Yes my opinion, I am a Franchise Player only and not interested in casual fun modes like Play your life or Chel. I don't see that big difference in Gameplay to 20 so it isn't worth for me to buy a Patch for Franchise mode for a full price. With my sliders the statistics in NHL 20 are realistic and this is important for me, also my about 300 Players self created Prospects which EA can not deliver me in NHL 21, cause no Roster Transfer or Sharing in.

The funny thing is.. franchise mode did get updates.

Trade deadline
Record book stats
Trade values (players, draft picks)
Draft class customization

BAP was pretty much completely redone. Now add the AI gameplay improvements and it's at least an 8 imho.

This franchise has been stepped on (for good reason) the last few releases, but 21 is shaping up to be quite a major improvement.
