Hey guys. This is my first attempt doing a slider set on OS. I’ve been playing NHL games since on Sega Genesis haven’t missed a game in the series. We know how little EA has made gameplay changes over the last few years, having said that in NHL 21 does show some good signs of improvement. However it isn’t enough.
So these sliders are about balance. We don’t want to see the CPU over powered. The goal here is to find the right balance between the CPU and user, and most importantly to have fun. So plug these in and give it a shot!
Settings:
Game Style: Custom
Post Whistle Rules: Authentic
Fighting: 1/2
Injuries: On
Penalties: 4/4
Period Length: 6-10 Minutes
Difficulty: Superstar
Penalty Time Scaling: 3/6
Coincidental Scaling: 2/6
Gameplay Sliders:
If I only show one number its the same for both HUM and CPU
General
Attribute Effects: 5/10
Game Speed: 0/6
Fatigue Effect: 65/100
Fatigue Recovery: 40/100
Injury Occurrence: CPU 52/HUM 55
(Game speed at 0 is a must. Hockey is a fast pace game, but anything above 0 feels too arcady. Also injuries happen often in real life. Raising it a bit we should see more, and force us to adjust our lineups accordingly)
Skating
Back Skating: 55/100
Hustle: Authentic
Puck Carrier Agility: 42/100
Puck Carrier Skating: 42/100
Player Acceleration: CPU 47/HUM 40
Skating Speed: CPU 45/HUM 40
Skating Agility: 45/100
(I bumped up the CPU skating acceleration and speed to prevent users blowing by the defenders. It seems that the CPU doesn’t accelerate often enough. So this should help.)
Shooting
One Timer Accuracy: 40/100
Shot Accuracy: 42/100
Shot Power: 42/100
Slap Shot Accuracy: 40/100
Slap Shot Power: 45/100
Passing
Manual Passing: On
Pass Assist: 35/100
Min Pass Speed: 20/100
Max Pass Speed: 60/100
Saucer Pass Speed: 40/100
Pass Accuracy: CPU 20/HUM 45
Pass Interceptions: 70/100
Pass Reception Ease: 20/100
Reception Reaction Time: 25/100
Puck Control Rating Effect: 55/100
Puck Speed Reception Effect: 45/100
Pickup Type Effect: 55/100
Bouncing Puck Receptions: 52/100
(Pass Accuracy has been out if hand with the CPU with the ping pong passing over the years. So lowering this prevents that from happening.)
Puck Control
Incidental Contact Loss: Stick, legs and body
Incidental Contact Immunity: 0/100
Puck Control: 15/100
Deking Impact: 45/100
Spin Deke Impact: 40/100
Skating Impact: 43/100
Goalies
Cover Frequency: 65/100
Goalie Passing: 45/100
Goalie Cross Crease Reaction: 73/100
Goalie Save Reaction Time: 57/100
Goalie Deflection Reaction: 45/100
Goalie Screen Effect: 65/100
Goalie Screen Persistence: 55/100
(Bumping up the goalies cross crease reaction decreases all of those easy one timer goals from side to side)
Checking
Board Effect Non Puck: 55/100
Board Effect Puck Carrier: 55/100
Hitting Assistance: 5/100
Stumble Threshold: 35/100
Fall and Stumble Ease: 35/100
Aggression: 52/100
Hitting Power: 44/100
Size Effect: 40/100
Speed Effect: 35/100
Checking/Balance Rating: 85/100
Preparedness Effect: 55/100
Incidental Contact Effect: 25/100
Poke Checking Accuracy: CPU 30/HUM 25
Poke Checking Power: CPU 50/HUM 45
Stick Lift Effectiveness: CPU 50/HUM 45
(Hitting at default is way to arcady. So here turning down the power should result in realistic hits.)
Penalties
CPU Penalties: Previous (68) 54/100
CPU Teammate: 41/100
Tripping: 35/100
Slashing: CPU 20/HUM 25
Elbowing: 70/100
High Sticking: 70/100
Cross Checking: 70/100
Boarding: 60/100
Charging: 60/100
Delay of Game: 60/100
Holding: 65/100
Hooking: 45/100
Interference: 85/100
(Another issue over the years were the lack of penalties called against the CPU. Having this to 54 along with the infractions gets a good balance of calls throughout the game.)
AI
AI Learning: 4/6
CPU Difficulty Adjustment: 0
CPU Faceoff Difficulty: 55/100
Fight Difficulty: 50/100
CPU Adjustment Strategy: 3/6
User Adjustment Strategy: 0/6
Just want to throw in a little house rule that I have for myself. Once the CPU enters the offensive zone who ever I’m controlling on Defence I stay controlling him until the puck leaves the zone, Or it automatically switches for me when my teammate touches the puck.
So give these a shot guys. Again first time doing this, but I tested them out and it plays great for me. Any feedback and suggestions welcomed!
