I Don't Know About The Rest Of You, But...

I am as a giddy as a schoolboy at his first youth league practice!

I honestly feel right now as I did playing 2K1 back in fall of 2000. I was extremely happy having played the absolute hell outta NBA Live 2000 on PC: Game was a sandbox, and for the first time the general manager AI was super on-point for a basketball game... maybe even a football game... being fair football did not have free agency in the 1990's I do not think.

Anyway, I rented 2K1 after seeing and loving the Dreamcast graphics of NBA 2K the previous year; I was cheap and would not buy a second console.

I got mega-excited when 2K ran pretty well-defined fastbreaks; that was one of the things NBA Live lacked. I theorized that since the game was made in Vancouver, it had to be coded by hockey-heads. Basketball and hockey are similar, but a cherry-pick fastbreak in basketball would be offsides in hockey. 2K even had logic to stop cherry-picking after two or so baskets.

Anyway, I almost bought the game for PS2. I just needed GM AI and the deal was sealed. I was controlling the Wizards and Michael Jordan. I like to test games by doing absurd things: I traded 40-year old Jordan for a kid named Koby. Of course the nonexistent GM did not object, and my respect for 2K1 went through the floor.

I returned 2K1 on the third day and did not buy until 2K6 after EA crashed and burned NBA Live... not completely, but Live was not as realistic as 2K at the time. 2K had GM logic: I was so happy I bought College Hoops AND took a flyer on NFL 2K5 for $5. BEST DAY EVER

Anyway, in the present I really think development teams may understand that adults want adult simulations... well, EA Madden is learning that the hard way. It is not hard to change a slider on a simulation and convert it to an arcade game for casual fun.

Totally looking forward to next-gen 2K: I am rich enough to buy a second console this time
