Are You Serious?: The Return
Posted on June 23, 2011 at 11:25 PM.
It's been 5 months since my horrific knee injury. The orthopedist has sent me on my way, I've completed my therapy and things are starting to look a lot better. But according to the physical therapist and the doctor, there's still a long way to go.

I have to admit that so far, its been tough. I still find myself being overly cautious when I walk. I'm horrified of tripping over something and going through this whole thing again. I still can't run without a serious limp. And going down steps is a major adventure. I can do it, but it messes with my head a little. Plus, I'm trying to make up the 'work' I missed by sleeping on the couch for two weeks after surgery. (A married man's work is never done, fellas!)

The therapist and my doctor both say it'll take up to 18 months to get to where I need to be physically and psychologically. But I'm pushing forward. Now I see what athletes go through with major injuries like this. It's not so much fear, but your brain has to get back in the flow, so to speak.

Overall, this has been an interesting experience, believe it or not. I wouldn't want to go through it again by any means, but I've come through the other side and I'm good. I met some great people and formed some friendships over the duration of my recovery. I even found out the depths of some friendships. I've been working hard and I'll continue to work hard to get back to normal. I'm gonna be ballin' again next season. I may be limited, but I'm going to be out there.

And I'm DEAD serious about that!

Good for you.
Stick with it, and you will become a better person / married man for it. Family should be the only people that got your back; don't rely on anybody else.
Stay on your difficult path, and reap those rewards at the end of the tunnel.
cheers

Thanks Ruff. I have to thank my family for helping me through this. My wife and my daughters took great care of me when I was basically confined to the couch. I know I bugged the crap out of them, but they never complained...

I know exactly how you feel, I am 16 and have Cerebral Palsy in my legs. I had an operation when I was around 8 where I had all the bones in both my legs broken and had muscles rearranged. I was confined to a wheelchair for a year and a half and I was on crutches for 6 months, also I had to learn how to walk again.

It was incredibly tough but now I work, play baseball and do army cadets. If anything, always make the best out of a bad situation.

Ffyfe, bro, what I've been through is no comparison to what you've been through. I salute your strength and determination. Thanks for stopping by.
