Poor CPU rotations ruin My Player mode in 2k10
Posted on October 12, 2009 at 06:30 AM.
I posted this in the 2k Hoops forum, and felt so strongly about it I thought I'd post it as my first blog.

I'm hoping this isn't common because it's really soured me on the My Player experience and the game as a whole.

I was cut by the Hornets from training camp. December rolls around and I've just had a triple double in one game and 27pt 9ast in another LA Defenders in the D-League. I'm a 48 OVR pass first point guard averaging around 12 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds.

Mid December the Hornets pick me up on a 10 game contract. I check their roster, Devin Brown out with a serious injury, so I think they're just looking for some depth in the back court, and I'm not expecting to play much if at all. So the game starts and not even 1 minute into the 1st quarter I sub in for Chris Paul. Then I continue to play the rest of the first quarter. And most of the 2nd, most of the 3rd and most of the 4th. For the whole second half I had the Gatorade cup next to my name, but was never subbed out.

The stats from my first game - 35 minutes, 12 points, 6 rebounds (3 off), 7 assists and 4 steals on 5/11 FG. I'm playing on All-Star for those interested. Oh and Chris Paul played 31 minutes. Peja played 7mins, Darren Collison 3, Chucky Atkins DNP.

So I check the rotation after - and sure enough I am 12th on the roster but with 34 minutes allocated.

Here's the PR about the mode.

My Player Mode – Create the ultimate NBA player and guide his every career move. Start as an undrafted rookie in the Summer Circuit; work hard enough and you may get an invite to participate in an NBA team’s training camp, or you may end up in the D-League. The road to being an NBA star is a long and hard battle.

And here's what was said in the developer insight

So, you’ve made it to the NBA! Now what? Just because you’ve made it to the NBA doesn’t mean you are here to stay. If you don’t play well enough to hold down your spot on the team and/or aren’t getting enough minutes, your team will either send you down to their NBA D-League affiliate or they will cut you outright. As always, you can avoid this by being the ultimate team player and doing everything that your coach asks of you.

Similar to when you first arrived in the NBA D-League, your minute allocation will be very small from the outset. You’ll need to perform well to earn the trust of your coach. The NBA is a different beast than what you’ve see thus far. Everyone’s faster, bigger, and better than you in almost every way. Fortunately, you are given 10 drills upon arriving in the NBA, so use those wisely to increase your player’s attributes as soon as they are available.
Very disappointed to say the least. Maybe it's a bug causing this but I've just spent the last week getting my player ready just to be on an NBA roster and he's already playing 30+minutes and having no issues keeping up.

Maybe I'm the only one who wants to fight for their roster spot, play well in short bursts and earn my spot in the rotation. Not have it given to them, even if it's by accident due to a bug in the CPU rotations. I don't even know if I want to go back to the mode right now, I feel like I've been misled somewhat by some of the pre-game information, even if that's not the case.

Sorry for the long post I needed to vent.
