Gaabbert and Jags offense will improve

The above state lines are from John Elway and Blaine Gabbert�s rookie season�s respectively. Now, I would like to say I am not saying Gabbert Is the next Elway, but I will say it is to early to write him off.

Gabbert a rookie last year was forced into the starting role in week 3 after veteran David Garrard was cut in the preseason and backup Luke McKown has a 4 intereception debacle against the Jets.

Last season was a season to forget for Jacksonville QB Blaine Gabbert and the Jags offense (excluding league leading rusher Maurice Jones-Drew. Gabbert struggled behind a make shift line and lack of any sort of talent at receiver. Mike Thomas a slot receiver was called on to be the team�s X receiver and did not make the transition well.

Gabbert many times looked like a deer in the headlights and was often called �skittish� in the pocket. Is this a concern? It certainly is, but with proper coaching and the additions of receivers Laurent Robinson, Lee Evans and Justin Blackmon I can see Gabbert bouncing back and having a strong season

To compound matters fellow rookies Andy Dalton of the Bengals and Cam Newton of the Panthers both played outstanding for quarterbacks in their first season. This, seemingly has led the national media to believe Gabbert can�t play as he didn�t put up numbers close to what Dalton and Newton accomplished. Gabbert was also sacked 40 times admittedly some of which were his own doing.

I am not saying Gabbert will be a great quarterback, but I am saying it is too early to write him off like so many have already.

If you guessed the first stat line was from Gabberts rookie season last year then you were wrong. Gabbert threw 5 more touchdowns and 3 less interceptions than Elway did his rookie year.

Following Elway�s rookie year Denver went 13-3 and lost in the divisional round to Pittsburgh. I don�t think Gabbert and the Jags are going 13-3 next year, but I do think Gabbert will improve his gave vastly and Jacksonville will compete for a wild card spot.

Chad Henne will be the starter sooner than later.

Gabbert was awful last season, plus there are reports that the team is not sold on him as their starter.

I think Chad Henne will certainly challenge Gabbert, but I think Gabbert will vastly improve. I expect him to be the starter in 2013.

Those reports are bogus. You can't bail on a rookie QB after the perfect storm of a rookie season he had. Gabbert is working his butt off this offseason and the coaching staff is really working with him. Plus, he finally has some WRs who should be an upgrade over the crap he had last year.

The media over blows everything and only showed the negatives of Gabbert's play. I watched every game he played. He has all the physical tools and I watched him make the big boy throws that you need to make to be a QB in this league. I agree he had nothing to work with last year and Marcedes Lewis was a big disappointment. With Blackmon, Robinson and Evans he will finally have some weapons. If he dosen't improve next year then it's time for concern.
