20/21 Season Game 38 Colorado Avalanche @ Vegas Golden Knights
The Avs returned from Christmas break in Sin City to take on Vegas for the first time this season. Vegas came into the game as one of the hottest teams in the league with points in 9 of their last 10. Vegas started the game flying, and took the lead less than three minutes in with a goal from Cody Glass. The Avs still couldn't pick up the pace and Vegas doubled their lead a few minutes later on a powerplay goal from William Karlsson. The Avs woke up after the intermission and got a goal back less than 2 minutes into the second period on the powerplay. Andre Burakovsky finished from close range to continue his blistering scoring run. The rest of the period tightened up and featured a lot of neutral zone play. Still trailing by a goal in the 3rd, the Avs started to dominate the shots and scoring chances and midway through they tied the game on Burakovsky's second goal of the game, the 100th of his career. Neither team could break the deadlock and the game headed to OT. The Avs controlled the overtime period early, but a turnover high in the offensive zone led to an easy zone entry for Vegas and a slick passing play finished off by Reilly Smith sent the Avs to their 3rd overtime loss of the season.
