Stuart earns start

Stuart earns role, Gabbert conspiciously absent

The Jacksonville Jaguars 2013 preseason certainly wasn't auspicious, and left little to cheer about as incumbent Blaine Gabbert was held back, not getting to throw a single pass while rookie AJ Stuart and long time pro Chad Henne fought it out for the starting position at quarterback.

Stuart didn't get too much play time either, appearing to be the preferred starter, rested early to ensure no risk of injury. While clearly shaken early in pre-season by the pace of the NFL, Stuart began to show signs of life in the later two games, the final game a high scoring win.

There is plenty for Stuart to work on though, accuracy will be a concern for the young quarterback, and the much talked about confidence in the pocket appeared to be missing, but he still held his own, in what was a terrible pre season for the teams defence.

MJD and Stuart will have a lot to carry on their shoulders if Jacksonville will come close to beating their season mark of two wins in 2012. When asked about the possibility of leading a team struggling defensively Stuart said, "I have faith in our guys to do the job that needs to be done. We're all just learning here on offense and defense, don't write us off yet. We will continue to work hard and go from there."
