The game started about how you would expect. Alabama received the opening kickoff and on the opening play of the game TJ Yeldon took it to the house on a 61 yard run. On the following drive by the visiting team, after a few first downs, Ronnie Bell threw an interception to Alabama’s Deion Belue who took it in for a pick six. After a three and out by Georgia State, the Crimson Tide added another touchdown to the board on a 45 yard touchdown pass from AJ McCarron to Amari Cooper. Alabama kept up the scoring with another touchdown run, this time by quarterback AJ McCarron, after the Tide picked off Georgia State’s Bell for a second time in the first quarter.

Shortly into the second quarter, Georgia State finally put up some points on the board, with a touchdown pass from Ronnie Bell to Danny Williams. Alabama’s defense must’ve been gassed, but Alabama’s offense showed that they weren’t as Yeldon had another touchdown run. The drive was long enough to give the defense a rest as Georgia State went three and out on their next drive. Yeldon ran it in for another touchdown right before half. After another thrown interception by Georgia State’s Bell, Alabama was able to close out the half with a field goal.

The third quarter went scoreless without much noteworthy happening. Georgia State’s defense, for the first time in the game, was able to stop Alabama’s offense around midfield and made them punt the ball away. Georgia State was able to score another touchdown from another pass by Ronnie Bell, a screen pass to Travis Evans, a few minutes into the final quarter. Alabama responded with another touchdown run, this time by Kenyan Drake. Georgia State was able to tack on a field goal late in the game to make the score look somewhat better, but the game had been over since the first play of the game.

After starting the season with 2 victories, including a shutout, this is Georgia State’s third straight loss. Next week they’ll be back in Atlanta for their first Sun Belt Conference game against the 3-3 Troy Trojans. They’ll be without starting running back Greg Howse, who went down in the second half with an injury and will miss the next two games. For the Crimson Tide, they remain undefeated on the season. Next week they’ll be in Lexington to face off against the 1-4 Kentucky Wildcats.

Georgia State breaks the three game losing streak while also winning their first Sun Belt Conference game in their first attempt. They’ll be traveling to Texas to visit the 1-5 Texas State next week. Troy falls to 3-4 with this last second loss to the Panthers. They have a bye next week and then we’ll be in Kentucky to face off against the Hilltoppers.

Georgia State improves to 4-3 on the season. They’ll be on the road again next week as they face off against the 6-1 UL Monroe. Texas State falls to 1-6 on the season. Next week they’ll face off against another bottom dweller in South Alabama who doesn’t have a win on the season.
