Re: Seattle Seahawks Dynasty (FOF9)

Week 6 Post-Game Press Conference

Reporter: Coach, what went wrong for you on the field today?

Pete: We played a good close game, they're a good team out there and a great defense for sure. In the end we couldn't get a stop when we really needed it at the end there. We got behind early and maybe got away from the run game too much too soon. Kenneth was running well and we probably needed to stick with him a little bit more. Give them credit, their corners played amazing on us and kept that game close.

Reporter: Both Lockett and Metcalf went down with injuries at times during this game but kept playing, how are they doing and are you confident they'll play next week against Arizona?

Pete: Both great guys, leaders, warriors. They battled through today and we're going to leave the decision about whether they'll play until later in the week and let our awesome team of doctors work with them and we'll listen to the recommendations of our medical team with that.

Reporter: This was Geno's worst game, at least yardage wise, what were seeing out there with him? Do you have any concerns about his play going forward?

Pete: Sometimes things don't go your way. Geno is our guy and he is an elite quarterback in this league. We were happy with his play, he protected the ball well and he was throwing well but their DBs made some great plays. We have full confidence in Geno leading this offense.

Reporter: Any final comments on your play today or changes you want to make?

Pete: We're playing good football. We needed to make some plays on third down that we missed and we needed one more stop on defense but overall we're happy with how the season is going and we're going to prepare well and play hard against Arizona next week.

Post Re: Seattle Seahawks Dynasty (FOF9)

John's Journal

Oct 22, 2023 -

I'm feeling the nerves in this one. Arizona should be an easy W but missing D.K. is gonna be tough out there. He wasn't happy when we told him he'd be inactive but the doctors tell us that's the right call. His strained achilles is a high risk for re-injury and we're going to need him down the stretch and in playoffs if we get there.

The coaching staff tells me Nick Bellore is disgruntled with his playing time. He's been amazing for us on special teams but he isn't dynamic enough for Shane to give him many snaps on offense. Apparently Colby Parkinson is beginning to feel concerned about how little he's seeing the field as well. He seems to be the odd man out so far in Shane's formations which is awkward because he's our youngest tight end and I want to keep him around, but it is hard to argue with Dissly being used for his receiving skills and Noah Fant's versatility and blocking has been valuable. Geno came and talked to me privately that he has seen some red flags in Kenneth Walker's attitude. I want that guy to be a Seahawk for a long time so hopefully that doesn't blow up into a big deal on the field or with the guys.

We struggled on offense without Damien Lewis at guard. We'll be missing him today again but even more importantly with how noticeable his absence has been is that his contract is expiring and I'm thinking about getting ahead of the game on re-signing him. I've spoken with his agent and he's wanting around a $3 Million signing bonus and a three year extension that will count $8.75 Million against the cap next year, going up by about a million each year.

Drew Lock hasn't had to play yet but he's had good energy on the bench and has been everything you want in a backup QB. His agent says he will sign for another year on a team friendly deal and I think I'm going to lock in that offer. He'll only count $1.79 against the cap next year and will have a $1.19 M signing bonus.

The trade deadline is coming up in nine days. If I want to try to move anybody for some extra picks it'll have to be soon. But if we do win against Arizona it'll be hard to move out anybody who has been contributing to this impressive season.

I've had Pete talk to Zach Charbonnet and make sure he's good and understands where we stand. We decided to make him inactive for today so Kenny McIntosh could get out there for some snaps. Zach seems to get it and he'll be back playing for next week.

Point Spread: Seattle by 11

Recap:

1st Quarter
Seattle's first drive earned only one first down before they had to punt it away. With a good special teams play Rhattigan to down it at the 8 the Cardinals would start deep in their territory and move the ball only 4 yards in three plays before punting. Seattle started from their 47 and had an eleven yard run from Walker to earn a first down. On the next set of downs they converted a 3rd and 4 with an 8 yard catch and run by Jaxon Smith-Njigba. After a screen pass to DeeJay Dallas was sniffed out and blown up for a five yard loss the Seahawks faced a 2nd and 15 from the Arizona 33 yard line. Geno handed it off to Kenneth Walker and Will Dissly sprung him with an excellent block as Walker scampered for 20 yards and the first down. On 3rd and 8 Geno threw an 11 yard touchdown pass to Noah Fant. Seattle 7, Arizona 0. Arizona went three and out and DeeJay Dallas fair caught the punt at Seattle's 36. Kenneth Walker earned a first down but with the fresh set of downs Seattle's offense managed only 2 yards in three plays and were forced to punt it. Dickson's punt bounced to the Arizona 2 yard line and was downed by Nick Bellore. Arizona converted a 3rd and 6 with a 7 yard Corey Clement run. Uchenna Nwosu was down after the play and it looked like a serious injury. On first down James Conner popped off a 12 yard run to move the chains again for Arizona. Kyler Murray's next play was an attempted pass to TE Trey McBride on a post but Jamal Adams stepped up to intercept it and returned it 23 yards to the Arizona 18. On 3rd and 5 Smith threw a screen to Lockett and he ran 7 yards with it for a first down.

2nd Quarter
On 2nd and goal from the 4 Seattle called a reverse to Cody Thompson and he almost got in but was tackled at the one yard line by CB Cameron Dantzler. CB Antonio Hamilton broke up the third down pass for Kenneth Walker and Seattle would choose to kick the field goal from the one, an 18 yard chip shot for Jason Myers. Seattle 10, Arizona 0. An Arizona three and out off the kickoff would set up another Seattle drive starting from their 34. Seattle moved the ball, getting a key 3rd down conversion on a completion to Jaxon Smith-Njigba but they were ultimately stymied at the Arizona 42 after a holding penalty on Charles Cross set them back for 3rd and long. Dickson's punt sailed on him and went into the endzone for a touchback. Once again the Seahawks defense was impregnable, with Quandre Diggs knocking away a 3rd and long pass to Rondale Moore to force another three and out. The Seahawks took over from their 19. They marched it all the way down to a first and goal at the nine. After an incomplete pass to Lockett Geno took over with his legs, scrambling for 8 yards on second down and punching it in with the QB sneak on 3rd down from the one. Seattle 17, Arizona 0. Kyler Murray and the Cardinals offense took over at their own 26 and started moving the ball, getting a huge third down conversion on 3rd and 10 from the Seattle 37 when Kyler Murray hit Marquise Brown on a playaction pass for 28 yards down to the nine. Murray would complete a touchdown pass for five yards to Zach Ertz on third down to get his team on the board. Seattle 17, Arizona 7. With four minutes to go in the half Seattle moved efficiently down the field and Tyler Lockett caught three straight passes for 11, 16 and 12 yards to get into the end zone before the two minute warning. Seattle 24, Arizona 7. The Cardinals got first downs from a Corey Clement run and a catch by WR Greg Dortch to move it to midfield with 1:19 left in the half. On 3rd and 5 with fifty three seconds left Murray passed to RB Corey Clement for 8 yards, with Clement getting out of bounds to stop the clock. Murray was sacked on the next play by Tyreke Smith but after the play DE Dre'Mont Jones was flagged for roughing, giving the Cardinals a first down at the 23 yard line. With 32 seconds left on the clock Arizona scored a touchdown on a 23 yard completion to Rondale Moore. Seattle 24, Arizona 14.

3rd Quarter
The Cards started with the ball and, after a Seattle penalty on the kickoff, decent field position at their own 42. Another three and out for their offense though and they would punt it to Seattle. Starting at his own ten yard line, Smith would throw to straight passes that were dropped by receivers before scrambling on 3rd down for only four yards. Seattle would punt it away and Arizona would start near midfield after the 38 yard punt from Dickson was fair caught. Arizona couldn't muster anything offensively and Seattle would get the ball back at their 11 after a punt. On a third and two DeeJay Dallas ran behind a key block by Abe Lucas for 17 yards and a first down. Walker would catch a pass over the middle and run for a 17 yard completion to bring the ball to the Arizona 30. Seattle drew a penalty on a 3rd and 3 to get a fresh set of downs at the 18. A conversion on a 3rd and 8 screen pass to Dallas for 9 yards set up a first and goal from the seven. Seattle went to the ground and on third down from the one Geno pushed it in for the touchdown on the sneak. Seattle 31, Arizona 14. Arizona would get a 29 yard kick return from Rondale Moore but on their first play of the drive Kyler Murray threw an interception to Devon Witherspoon. Seattle took over from the Arizona 30. After getting a first down on a one yard Cody Thompson reverse there was a scrum and Tyler Lockett took an unnecessary roughing penalty pushing Seattle back to the 35. On second down he made up for it with a 34 yard touchdown reception. Seattle 38, Arizona 14. On 3rd and 13 on their next possession the Cardinals got a 12 yard completion to Kaden Davis. 4th and one. Decision time.

4th Quarter
Down by 24, Arizona goes for the QB sneak at their 34 and gets the first down. After a Corey Clement 18 yard run for a first down and a face masking penalty on Riq woolen Arizone had a first down from the Seattle 30. The defense would push them back to a 4th and 12 and Matt Prater hit the 49 yard field goal to bring them within three touchdowns. Seattle 38, Arizona 17. Seattle moved the ball on their next drive, getting a completion to Nick Bellore for fifteen yards and later a completion to DeeJay Dallas for 21 yards. They were stopped at the Arizona 29 and Jason Myers came out to kick the 46 yard field but it was blocked by Cary Liles of the Cardinals. Arizona would take over at their 42 with 8:46 to play and march it down the field, finishing their drive with a 16 yard touchdown pass to WR Kaden Davis. James Conner ran the two point conversion in successfully. Seattle 38, Arizona 25. A three and out from the Seahawks set up another Cardinals drive, starting from their 32 with 4:42 to go. They moved the chains a couple times but then Murray was sacked, Arizona was called for an illegal block and the Cards had a 3rd and 32 that would've been stopped but Devon Witherspoon was flagged for defensive holding to give the Cardinals another first down. On 4th and five Quandre Diggs knocked down a pass intended for Marquise Brown and the Cardinals turned it over on downs with 2:41 left in the game. After an 11 yard gain on a run by Walker gave Seattle a first down the Cardinals tightened up their defense and spent their timeouts, getting the stop and forcing a field goal at the two minute warning. Jason Myers' 35 yard kick was good. Seattle 41, Arizona 25. Arizona's two minute offense went into action and they moved into Seattle territory before on 4th and 5 from the 21 Devin Bush knocked away a pass to Kaden Davis and the ball went over on downs. With sixteen seconds left Seattle went into victory formation for the final snap of the game as Geno took a knee.

Final Score: Seattle 41, Arizona 25.

Tyler Lockett stepped up in D.K.'s absence, catching 8 passes for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns. 55 of his yards were after the catch. Kenneth Walker ran for 87 yards on 24 carries and caught a 17 yard pass. Jaxon Smith-Njigba got a lot more opportunity without D.K. playing and he had a career best 5 catches for 50 yards. Geno responded well to a difficult game last week, he was 25-43 for 282 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also had seven carries for 29 yards and 2 touchdowns. Arizona's Kyler Murray went 33-56 for 297 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Rondale Moore looked dangerous in the return game and had 8 receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown. Seattle's Phil Haynes made 4 key run blocks on 10 opportunities and the Seattle O-Line overall allowed only four pressures all game, one of which was a missed block by TE Will Dissly. Arizona safety Jalen Thompson had 10 tackles and a forced fumble. Coby Bryant had two passes defended and allowed only one catch for Seattle. Tyreke Smith had a sack and three total pressures in fifteen pass rushes. Boye Mafe didn't register a sack but he had six pressures and also made 5 tackles. Riq Woolen made two TFLs, had a PD and only allowed two receptions all game.

Re: Seattle Seahawks Dynasty (FOF9)

We're 5-1 but so what?

October 23rd, 2023 -

Seattle waltzed away with an easy win over the injury stricken Cardinals and it's a nice salve for the wounds of a week ago when they lost a winnable game against the Joe Burrow-less Bengals but does it mean a whole lot? There are still questions about the quality of this team. This is still a team that can't generate a pass rush and now has Uchenna Nwosu out and Jarran Reed sitting at questionable for their next game. Their passing yards per game has settled down to 15th in the NFL after their hot start the first couple games. They are only 11th in the league in rushing yards allowed despite playing almost every game with the lead for most of the game.

Just in time for their first real test all year against a 5-1 Cleveland team they are looking seriously banged up for the first time all year. If Nwosu, Wagner and Reed all remain unable to play that's four of their starting eleven defenders out of the lineup. At least Devon Witherspoon has been coming into his own, he's an absolute dog on a bone out there lately, leading the team with two interceptions. And Anthony Bradford looked better in his second game. But this Browns squad is the real deal, with the league's best pass protection and 4th best passing yards per game. They didn't even miss a beat when Deshaun Watson was hurt and P.J. Walker had to fill in at QB. They're second in total yards on offense, fourth in points score and tied for fourth in points against. They're a wagon but their turnover differential is -1 and maybe if Geno continues to protect the ball well Seattle can force a turnover or two and take advantage. One thing's for sure, after losing their first game of the season last week the Browns will be loaded for beat and Seattle better be ready.

Anyways, where we? Oh yeah, Seattle's record isn't all that indicative of where they are as a team. Their wins have been against teams with a combined record of 11-23. Their running game has had struggles. They haven't been getting sacks (but, surprisingly, they at least haven't been allowing many either) and they have yet to prove they can credibly stop a good run game. There's potential but this team has a lot of holes and the back half of their schedule is looming large. They will have two games against San Fran, a game in Dallas and a game against Philadelphia in their last seven. Good thing they've stockpiled wins early but there may be a reckoning coming. Let's just hope Geno and the gang can prove me wrong.

Recap:

1st Quarter
Seattle starts with the ball. First play from scrimmage is a ten yard run outside to the right for Kenneth Walker. On third down Smith passes to Dissly for a thirteen yard conversion. An unnecessary roughness penalty on Cleveland DT Maurice Hurst moves Seattle to the Cleveland 33. An illlegal contact penalty gives them their next first down and the next play Walker runs around the right end for 11 yards with a key block from pulling guard Damien Lewis leading the way. DeeJay Dallas converts a 3rd and 3 behind a key run block from Abe Lucas. On first and goal Geno Smith connects with TE Will Dissly for the seven yard touchdown. Jason Myers would miss the extra point wide right. Seattle 6, Cleveland 0. Cleveland would work the ball to midfield with a first down rushing and another one via penalty but on 3rd and 7 nickel back Coby Bryant blitzed and sacked Deshaun Watson to force a punt. Dustin Hopkins punted it 28 yards and Deejay Dallas signalled for the fair catch at the Seattle 30. Their drive would fizzle out after only one first down and Dickson punted it 56 yards with Kyu Blu Kelly downing it at the 3. Cleveland went three and out and punted it back to Seattle. Kenneth Walker ran four straight plays, moving the ball 19 yards and setting up a 2nd and 3 that DeeJay Dallas converted.

2nd Quarter
After Charbonnet's nine yard run set up a 3rd and 1 Walker earned another first down with a three yard gain running behind center Evan Brown. A second down sack by Myles Garrett put Seattle in 3rd and long and Smith's pass to Noah Fant only gained ten yards so Myers came out and hit the 40 yard field goal. Seattle 9, Cleveland 0. The Browns picked up three first downs on their next drive, moving the ball to the Seattle 14 before they were stopped on 3rd and 4 when Riq Woolen knocked the ball away from Nick Chubb. Dustin Hopkins nailed the 31 yard field goal. Seattle 9, Cleveland 3. On the second play of Seattle's next drive Kenneth Walker ran around the right end for 67 yards, running out of gas at the end of the play and being tackled at the one by OLB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. Geno Smith would connect with Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a one yard touchdown, the first of Smith-Njigba's career. Seattle 16, Cleveland 3. Cleveland would start their next possession at the 25. On first down Watson was sacked by Mafe for a ten yard loss. On second down he was sacked by Tyreke Smith, setting up 3rd and 24. He threw to Amari Cooper who caught the pass 8 yards shy of the marker but ran after the catch and just barely made the first down before being knocked out of bounds by Julian Love. On the next set of downs it was again Cooper converting on 3rd down with a 4 yard gain on a screen pass. Cooper caught a 21 yard pass on the next play in double coverage. Two plays later it was Cooper again for 23 yards, getting down to the Seattle 7. After a six yard pass to Cooper put the Browns at the one Deshaun Watson was penalized for taunting, moving the Browns back to the 16. They would be stopped from there and Dustin Hopkins would make another field goal, this one from 33 yards. Seattle 16, Cleveland 6. Geno Smith scrambled for a first down on 3rd and 7 but fumbled the ball and Cleveland S Grant Delpit (who popped the ball out in the first place) came up with the fumble recovery. Watson completed passes to Cooper, Goodwin and Cooper to move the ball to the Seattle 4 but the Seahawks defense made a worthy goalline stand to hold them to a 21 yard Dustin Hopkins field goal. Seattle 16, Cleveland 9.

3rd Quarter
The Browns would start the half with the ball and worked it downfield to the Seattle 42 before Boye Mafe rushed a 3rd down pass by Watson that fell incomplete and Dustin Hopkins punted it 32 yards. Seattle would start their drive from the 12 after Dallas returned the punt 2 yards. A couple of Walker runs earned a first down and Lockett caught a 13 yard pass for another one. After a couple of short passes the Seahawks were stopped on 3rd and 2 when Walker was stopped in the backfield. Cleveland would get the ball at their own 20 to start the next drive but after Dre'Mont Jones and Jarran Reed teamed up for a sack on second down Watson faced a 3rd and 14 and was forced to check it down to Chubb for four yards. Hopkins boomed a punt 62 yards but DeeJay Dallas took it 82 yards to the house! Seattle 23, Cleveland 9. The Browns were gifted a first down on third down by a Quandre Diggs holding penalty but two plays later Deshaun Watson completed a pass to Marquise Goodwin and Coby Bryant stripped him of the ball. Jordyn Brooks recovered for the Seahawks and after a 16 yard run by DeeJay Dallas got them a first down at the 26 the Seahawks were stymied and Myers missed a 43 yard field goal attempt wide to the left. The Browns converted a third down with a completion to TE Jordan Akins and picked up another first down with a 15 yard Nick Chubb run.

4th Quarter
Watson completed two consecutive passes to Cooper, moving the ball to the Seattle 14. On third and four Watson scrambled for 13 yards but was tackled by Coby Bryant a yard shy of the endzone. On second down and goal Watson found FB Donnell Becerra in the endzone for their first touchdown of the game and followed it up with a successful two point convert to Marquise Goodwin. Seattle 23, Clevelan 17. Seattle marched methodically down the field and on third and goal from the three Geno Smith connected with Will Dissly for a touchdown. The Seahawks would go for two and succeed with a pass to Tyler Lockett. Seattle 31, Cleveland 17. The Browns take over with the ball from their 25 with 6:16 to go and down by two scores. Deshaun Watson threw seven straight completions to lead quick drive down the field culminating in a 6 yard touchdown pass to TE Jordan Akins. They elected to go for two and Deshaun Watson found Amari Cooper in the endzone to convert. Seattle 31, Cleveland 25. Seattle would go three and out and be forced to punt the ball away. Cleveland takes the ball from their 24 with 4:05 to play and moves downfield with three first downs in four plays. After a Seattle offside they have a first down from the Seattle 17 at the two minute warning. Deshaun Watson throws a ten yard pass to Marquise Goodwin who gains the seven remaining yards after the catch to score. After the extra point is good Cleveland takes the lead. Cleveland 32, Seattle 31. What a comeback. Geno Smith gets the ball at his 25 with 1:48 on the clock. After a 14 yard first down pass to Dissly they struggle in their next set of downs and on 4th and 3 Geno drops back to pass, doesn't like what he sees and instead scrambles ten yards for the first down himself. A 20 yard pass to Lockett on second down puts them at Cleveland's 24 with 27 seconds to play. An eleven yard pass to Walker gives Seattle a first down from the thirteen with fifteen seconds to go. Smith throws a screen to Lockett who gains six yards on the play and Seattle calls a timeout with 3 seconds left. Jason Myers hits the walk off field from 24 yards to squeak out the win and cap off a thrilling fourth quarter.
