Re: Pros and Cons of going to an all-digital game library

I think I figured out my strategy for this. Alternation.

    Madden 16 - download
    FIFA 16 - disc
    Nhl 16 - download
    Nba 2k16 disc

    Madden 17 - disc
    FIFA 17 - download
    Nhl 17 - disc
    Nba 2k17 - download

How does alternating help you? Just curious..,

Re: Pros and Cons of going to an all-digital game library

I've gone 100% digital for both PS4 and XB1 , and am not looking back. I love being able to play at 9:00 pm pacific time on the day before official release. I love the convienence of not having to go to a store, and I love not having to swap discs. I can't remember the last time I bought a physical disc.

I went digital on Halo 5 because I got to pre-load which included pre-loading the 9GB day one patch.

Some indies as well as all freebies obviously will be digital..
            All others disks..
48.00 plus ability to trade in if I want
...as well as getting the 10.00 certs towards another purchase on most AAA games which would then make the game 38.00 vs 59.00...

I do LOVE the ability to swap to different games instead of switching disks but it's still a $ difference I can't pass up.

I have to say that when in high school and college being able to sell my games made a big difference for me. Now that I am a working stiff digital is a dream. No hassle and the small monetary difference just doesn't register in the same way. I love being able to decide to buy something, making a few clicks, and then having it DL and install within minutes. Plus no physical media issues like scratched disks or dirty carts. It's heaven.

I came to say this. That's exactly where I am at.

I really would like to go digital, financially it just doesn't make sense. I am getting COD for $48 with $10 back, if I don't like it after a month I can trade in and probably get $35 back. So $3 bucks for a month.

I will say this, I bought Madden digitally when I was injured and I had another game in my disk tray, not having to get up and switch disks was pretty nice. I just can't see myself doing it full time.

All digital except for NHL to trade in. Which in turns pays for most of my EA Access membership when it goes in the vault.

Same here. The convenience is great. Plus I love when I go to my apps and games on my Xbone the list of games I invested in is crazy. I have over 40 games downloaded.

Price needs to come down. I dont mind having digital games but when I can get physical games cheaper, then resell them and get a nice amount back... Theres no point

Does gamefly have something for renting digital games? Now that would be something Id be interested in

This would be great. I remember reading an interview with Peter Moore a while back where he talked basically about this idea. EA did it with Fable (2, maybe?) on 360. Basically gave you the tutorial-ish missions at the beginning for free with an option to buy the rest of the game once you had completed those. IIRC, you could either buy the whole thing or do it by "chapter." I'd love to see this happen more. I suppose it's what The Walking Dead/Wolf Among Us/etc games do but doing it with bigger AAA titles is the way to go if companies want players to move to all-digital. I'd be much more inclined to get the instant gratification of continuing my progress immediately via digital purchase than to set it aside until I get the physical copy.

The only True Value of getting disks is indeed if your going to get to trade them back in for a decent amount, and I have to tell you, its only worth it of you buy a game and have the time to sit in front of it for a week and beat it. I don't have the time to do so, hence me going all digital.

So after a month or two and only getting back maybe $20 or less for a game I paid $50 or $60 for is not worth it. I rather build up my digital collection as I have been doing.

Yeah that's true, the whole "trading it back in" aspect isn't a huge deal for me as I feel they rip you off unless you can find a good deal.

For me right now though, getting discs through GCU for about $38 a game (when you can do the preorder $10 bonus) is why I've been buying physical copies.

But I must say, after getting really used to digital it really SUCKS to have to get up and insert a disc!!!!!!!

I totally agree. Glad I got Fallout 4 digitally (I'll never sell that back), so I don't have to lug a disc around between Xboxes.

GCU is such a great deal though, so tough to pass up. Digital deals are so few and far between.

Yeah, honestly once the holidays are over and the great deals dry up I will be tempted to go back to buying digital. Even with GCU it's a pretty close call for convenience versus savings for me.
