Re: NFL Off Topic

I'm pretty sure the first post in the series notes that they weren't going to be making any adjustments for positional value.

The list is surprising. The problem is a lot of the stats/formulas are behind a pay wall so people see the list and go "OMG... metrics are stupid" because PFF doesn't really explain anything. They just go "trust us" and that's more of a problem than the metrics themselves. Metrics need transparency.

I used to wonder if the metric-obsessed folks at PFF ever sat down and actually watched a game. Based on this, it's clear that they haven't.
I'm willing to bet a lot of money that they watch more game tape than you. And actual game tape, not the TV broadcast that only shows where the ball goes.

If he had a crystal ball and saw the decade+ of average at best Cowboy teams, I'm positive he would've gone another way with that decision.
Way OT, but aren't the Cowboys the second-most-valuable team in sports behind Manchester United? (edit: actually fourth behind Man.U, Real Madrid, and the New York Yankees).

We know Jerruh likes winning, but Jerruh also likes money. I'd say his business decisions have more than worked out for him. Its his football decisions, however, that get him into trouble, and why the Cowboys as a football team are what they are right now.

All that aside, I enjoyed the joke.

PFF's grading system is cumulative, so the fact that Aaron Rodgers missed games to injury hurt his grade significantly by virtue of not having the opportunity to improve it. Playoff games also add to the cumulative score, so Wilson's team getting to and winning the Super Bowl inflated his grade too.

Over the course of the whole season, one could argue Russell Wilson had a better total season than Aaron Rodgers by virtue that Wilson played in 16 + 3 playoff good games vs Rodgers' great nine + one playoff game. Doesn't mean Wilson is a better player, just that he put together a better total season.

Re: NFL Off Topic

Just realized nobody's mentioned Ray Rice avoiding jail time.

It'll be interesting to see if Godell does anything more. I'm not surprised at the result to this point but would be if he didn't get a game or two off. However, if that video (as bad as it looked) is the only thing they have to go by, I'm not sure he really should get anything more.

Probably the same reason Adrian Peterson is not on the list despite being 5th in rushing yards last year. The missing 2 games hurt him.

Re: NFL Off Topic

Calvin Johnson at 35? Josh Gordon who despite missing 2 games lead the league in receiving at 74?

Both seem way too low.

Re: NFL Off Topic

You guys do know that their stats factor in other things like pass and run blocking too, right? Not to mention the amount of drops they all had probably hurt a bit too.
