A sold out Gerald F. Ford Stadium saw the host SMU Mustangs rip 5 fumbles away from UAB returning 2 for touchdowns. Fans were treated to plenty of scoring on Saturday afternoon as SMU took at 45-31 win over UAB in the C-USA opener and 2010 Home opener. After being down 17-7 through just one quarter SMU's defense buckled down and the offense took control of the ball mounting not just one but two comebacks before collecting a game-sealing fumble recovery with just 50 seconds to play. Kyle Padron made it trough the game injury less as he racked up 355 yards through the air. On the negative side for SMU, they were held to -20 yards rushing. After the game head coach June Jones said, "We need to get better balance. It's something we can work on in practice. Kyle's completion percentage was hurt due to the lack of success we had on the ground, UAB did a good job of shutting us down at times." Next week Pac-10 foe Washington State comes to Ford Stadium. "We're excited to have a Pac-10 opponent come to our turf to play we had a great battle up at their place last year and were not gunna let this one get away" said Jones. Last year the Cougars won 30-27 in overtime in Pullman, WA.

It was good ole' fashion shootout at Jones AT&T Stadium Sunday as Texas Tech defeated the SMU Mustangs 45-43. There were plenty of yards to go around as the two teams combined for 1160 yards of total offense. SMU took an early lead off of a safety in the 1st Quarter. Tech answered back with a TD pass on the next drive. SMU fought back and scored again on their next drive leading 9-7 after 1. Tech put up back to back TDs to jump out to a 21-9 lead. O'Brien Trophy candidate Kyle Padron hooked up with Bradley Haynes for 56 yard strike to cut the lead. Tech would score again before the half and lead 28-16 into the locker room.

The second half saw both starting QBs get injured but the back-ups did not disappoint. JJ McDermott had 2 TDs for SMU in the second half before getting injured himself. Texas Tech's Steven Sheffield completed 23 of 26 passes for nearly 300 yards in the back and forth second half. SMU never quite recovered losing their top 2 signal callers and lost 45-43.

Next Week the Mustangs will host the UAB Blazers in both their home and Conference USA Openers.

The 2010 Season for the Army Black Knights started off strong on an overcast day in Yipsilanti, MI. Army defeated the host Eastern Michigan Eagles 30-13 thanks to an amazing coming out party for Trent Steelman. The sophomore ran for 110 yards and 2 TDs, in his first start since the commissioning of former starter Carson Williams. "The whole backfield communicated well and we were able to use the option to exploit some of their weaknesses" said Steelman, who hopes to continue the winning ways next week in the home opener against Hawaii.
