After an offseason of turmoil, the Saints were supposed to be motivated by Bounty Gate. The Saints were “supposed” to be the 07 Patriots 2.0, a team ridiculed by scandal that went 16-0. They were supposed to stick it to Roger Goddell.
Now with losing to Washington and Carolina, the turmoil continues.
It would have been too easy to blame Commissioner Roger Goddell. By suspending Sean Payton and even interim coach Joe Vitt, the most hated man in New Orleans was the easy way out for the Saints troubles.
Still, Goddell and the suspensions aren't to blame for the lack of defense.
“Seam Payton couldn’t come out and run a route,” New Orleans safety Malcom Jenkins told ESPN. “Joe Vitt couldn’t make a tackle.”
It appeared no one on the Saints could make a tackle. In their Sunday loss to the Panthers, the Saints gave up 463 yards, including 219 yards on the ground. Against the Redskins, the defense also allowed 459 yards.
While the Sean Payton Saints have never had a lockdown defense, giving up over 450 yards a game is unforgiveable. To make it worse, it seems like interim, interim head coach Aaron Kromer dismissed the seriousness of a problem on defense.
“We’ve played the most unconventional offenses in the National Football League,” he said. “You go from RG3 and then to Cam Newton, they’re just unconventional. Do we have to do better against those style of offenses? Yeah, we do. But we need to get settled on that style. We played two good offenses. We just need to keep plugging away on defenses.”
Those “unconventional offenses” didn’t stop St. Louis or Tampa Bay from getting wins. Teams that are considered to be rebuilding, pulled out the wins when it counted.
The Saints defense can’t expect for Drew Brees to bail them out every time they’re facing a defeat. Through two games, Brees has thrown four touchdowns to his four interceptions. That isn’t going to get it done when the Saints defense is so bad.
Only three teams have gone on to make the playoffs after starting 0-2, according to ESPN. For the Saints to do that, players are going to have to step up and move on from Bounty Gate.
So far, The Big-Bad Saints don’t look big. They just look bad.

poor adjustments or rather no adjustments at the half are part of the problem...they dont appear to adjust on the fly or have the ability to. It doesnt help when Brees gives the defense a touchdown either...they lost by 8...gotta think that played a role in the outcome...

Are we going to pretend that the Saints defense didn't suck BEFORE bounty gate? Last year it was held together by duct tape and a prayer, this year it was doomed to fail without Vilma.
As far as offense goes, obviously Payton will be missed, he was the best playcaller in the league, but honestly, the play calls have not been bad. Drops and bad protection have killed the Saints offensively.

The Home Field Curse
The third type of the curse is one that affects the host team of the Super Bowl. No team has ever played the big game in its own home stadium. The closest have been the San Francisco 49ers who played Super Bowl XIX in Stanford Stadium, rather than Candlestick Park, and the Los Angeles Rams who played Super Bowl XIV in the Rose Bowl, rather than the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Besides those two, the only other Super Bowl venue that was not the home stadium to an NFL team at the time was Rice Stadium in Houston: the Houston Oilers had played there previously, but moved to the Astrodome several years prior to Super Bowl VIII. The Orange Bowl was the only AFL stadium to host a Super Bowl and the only stadium to host consecutive Super Bowls, hosting Super Bowl II and III.
The Indianapolis Colts were in a rare, but not unprecedented, situation at the end of the 2011 season, becoming the fourth host team of a Super Bowl to have the worst record in the NFL for their particular season. This also happened to the 1973 Houston Oilers (Super Bowl VIII), the 1980 New Orleans Saints (Super Bowl XV), and the 1983 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Super Bowl XVIII).
The New Orleans Saints, whose home stadium the Mercedes-Benz Superdome is scheduled to host Super Bowl XLVII, were affected heavily by the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal as their Head Coach Sean Payton was Suspended for the entire 2012 NFL Season due to the implications against them and former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. Some media outlets such as Fox Sports and Sports Illustrated have claimed that the Home Field Curse was in effect there.
Generally, the host team of a Super Bowl has a VIP section in the stadium during the game.
The last Super Bowl host to make the playoffs is the 2000 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Since then, the hosts of the next 11 Super Bowls have failed to make the playoffs.

I thought it was comical how the sports media world unanimously agreed that "The Saints will just keep on trucking, this Bounty-gate scandal doesn't change the fact that they have Brees and receivers". I'm like "you lost your D-coordinator, your defense was already mediocre, you don't have your HEAD COACH and Brees is supposed to just WIN like ::snap:: that? ok, I'll wait".
Look at Wisconsin football with the same head coach but new assistant coaches. Completely different squad. Look at Ohio State football with the removal of Tressel. It's not like tOSU had zero talent out there last year. They were lost, Fickell wasn't ready.
Now that is college, I know. But it's still football, a game of scripted brutality, with the GM as the executive producer, the head coach as the director, the coordinators as the 2nd team directors and the QB as the lead actor. Tweak any of those positions and the project becomes different.

This just me, but I blame the defense...all around.
No pass rush what so ever. I'm talking about Qbs have literally all day.
The new linebackers Lofton and Hawthorne supposed to be tackling machines, have not stood out so far.
And the secondary keeps giving up big plays and dropping picks.
We are going to wind up with the worst defense in the league like we are now if we don't play better defense.

I think there one of the worst teams in the league right now. Ok, they may not be quite that bad, but the Rams are looking better than them this year!

1. I blame the defensive coordinator Steve Spagnolla (sure I spelled that wrong). The defense looks horrible. If the offense makes a mistakes then it will just be applified due to poor defense.
2. You gotta have a head coach, otherwise then no Head Coach should even be hired or fired if a head coach doesn't matter. This isn
t the NBA. Its NFL football where coaching does matter!!!

They're a one dimensional offense, albeit a good one, and when their D plays like crap they have no chance. Brees is great but he isn't going to get you 40+ pts a game, which is about what they'll need to win. Funny to hear them making excuses about the "unconventional offenses" though.
