It’s hard to believe the European soccer season is almost over. With only a handful of Cup matches left, the doldrums of summer are nearly upon us. Thankfully, the team over at Konami has released a teaser trailer as well as an accompanying press release.

Regardless of how you feel about teasers, any early news at this stage of the development cycle is better than nothing. Even this most recent 45 seconds of cut-ups shown at close angles is enough to entice the most loyal of PES fans while giving those who are new to the series a glimmer into the niche fan base that is PES.

The mindset of a pitcher should be forever changing. Every hitter represents another battle that necessitates a new plan of attack. When these best-laid plans inevitably go awry because it’s impossible to execute perfectly and stymie whoever is at the plate with every pitch, it’s imperative that adjustments then be made on the fly. At times on the mound, you’re going to want to establish your dominance with an overpowering fastball on the inside corner. Elsewhere, you’ll be trying to set a hitter up with a pitch outside the zone, and ultimately, there will come a time when you’ll need to be ready to go in for the kill. Though every at-bat is bound to be its own slightly different struggle, the one constant will be the same counts that you’ll encounter over and over and over again. With that in mind, here are some thoughts on how to approach each of the different counts you’ll come across while pitching in MLB The Show 17.

Achieving success and winning trophies in Master League can be a difficult task. Unfortunately, there's no tried and true formula that one can replicate and reap immediate rewards. Team Spirit, avoiding the injury bug and purchasing the right players can put you on the path to success. Once on that path, it's up to you to sustain it. With that said, let’s dive into three areas that are crucial to Master League success in PES 2017.

It was a perplexing year for FIFA. Visually, the game excelled. From gorgeous lighting to amazing face scans, it’s easy to say that this year’s FIFA is the best looking to date. Apart from the cosmetic upgrades, FIFA 17 brought about a greater sense of physicality with its new shielding animation, even if it’s a tad bit overpowered at times.

Stylistically, for the first time since FIFA 14, Custom Team Tactics (CTT) work and allow for a greater sense of variety in career mode if you put the time in to implement them. The new Journey Mode, while shallow, was a decent first attempt at an engaging first-player mode akin to NBA 2K’s MyPlayer. Hopefully, future iterations of this mode will expand upon its concepts, allowing for less canned scripting and provide a greater variety of options.

It’s no secret that the debate between FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) usually starts and ends with licenses. With Konami and EA Sports in a race to secure as many licenses as possible, sometimes every gamer suffers in the long run. Thankfully, the PES community is a dedicated bunch set on providing gamers with the most authentic experience possible given the constraints of the system (in this case we’re solely talking about the PS4).

With Konami and EA Sports in a race to secure as many licenses as possible, sometimes every gamer suffers in the long run. While the PES community is filled with a plethora of option files, FIFA 17 is as a “pick-up-and-play” game as we’ll see in the footy genre.

As a somewhat late adopter of digital purchases, my consoles have a strictly monogamous relationship with footy games on disc. FIFA 17 on the Xbox One and PES 2017 on the PS4 are both on disc format, living peacefully under the same roof with only the TV input separating them. Let's just say I'm married to the game, just don't tell my wife.

As the new titles release, following their evolution and subsequent patches is a ritual all in itself. From tweaking sliders to staying abreast of the impressions from the community, the commitment to FIFA 17 requires time and your full attention. It's with that being said that I'll take a look at the current state of affairs.

We’re about a month into Pro Evolution Soccer's (PES) 2017 release, and with completed option files appearing it’s time to jump into PES’ marquee mode, Master League. PES fans know that Master League is where you make your bones, and as manager, scout and director it’s up to you guide the ship. With that said, let’s look at some ways to get the most out of Master League in PES 2017.

Last week we explored a brief guide on approaching the passing game. This week we’re going to take a look at facing the blitz in passing situations. No matter how good your team’s quarterback is, consistent pressure on the QB can turn Tom Brady into Mark Sanchez. With a lot of users complaining about Madden 17's lack of pressure generated from their front four, players have resorted to dialing up blitzes at a rate that would make the late Buddy Ryan proud. Dealing with these blitzes can be very difficult, so in this article we’ll take a look at some keys to beating the blitz and keeping the chains moving.

After the dust settled and the honeymoon phase was over, Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) 2016 quickly lost its appeal. Despite being more responsive all the while adding more animations and Player ID, PES 2016 suffered from end-to-end gameplay due to a lack of fouls and some curious/poor AI defending. As news slowly rolled in regarding the 2017 edition, consumers like myself were cautiously optimistic that Konami would listen to feedback and create a balanced footy experience. Thankfully, this seems to be the case with PES 2017.

Football is a passing game. Despite the Denver Broncos riding a dominant defense to their third Super Bowl ring, the majority of playoff teams last year fielded offenses with potent aerial attacks. Whether it be Tom Brady's precision attack or Carson Palmer connecting on big plays, the rules in the NFL favor the pass. How does this relate to Madden? Quite simply, it doesn’t. Madden has always favored the pass as its primary means of racking up yards, but Madden 17 moves towards balance, albeit, in a good way.

We’re still over two months away from FIFA 17’s official release but the developers over at EA Canada are slowly starting to build up momentum for what should be another solid game of footy. Sure the spoon-fed approach taken by EA’s marketing team can be tough in a genre that lives and breathes instant gratification, but realistically speaking, we cannot expect EA to spill all of the beans this early in the release cycle. It’s with that in mind that we’ll take a look at the gameplay changes we can expect to see in FIFA 17.

Baseball has the "Hot Stove League." Soccer has the "Silly Season." The NFL is year-round, and now, the NBA's offseason is nearly as good as their regular season. From the moment the NBA Finals end, we as fans go straight into offseason mode starting with the NBA Draft. Once the dust settles and the Celtics make the last of their seemingly infinite picks, we dive straight into free agency. Last year gave us the DeAndre Jordan saga, and this year it's all about KD and that new TV money.

Teams are just about to be able to officially sign all these players agreeing to deals, so let's look at early returns.
