Madden should learn from Elite 11
Posted on September 27, 2010 at 11:33 PM.
Every year on Next-Gen consoles for better or worse, Madden releases their annual NFL football game. Madden is the only NFL game on the market due to their current exclusive license. The game has underachieved in the worst way possible and made tons of excuses for why the game is not What we see on Sunday.

Madden could learn a lesson or two from NBA Elite by taking a year off to perfect the game since they are not currently relinquishing the NFL license. NBA Elite released a DEMO with gameplay far worse than previous years the title released. It would not only have been an embarrassment for EA, but a HUGE slap in the face of cover athlete Kevin Durant, who is a Super Star in the NBA. So Peter Moore made the right clutch decision to bench the franchise until it could get it's act together.

Best call they could have made.

Can you imagine if NFL 2K11 was competing with Madden 11 and they had continued their innovation from NFL 2K5, the way NBA 2K11 did? Ian, Phil and Co. would be in deep trouble and would have to actually put out a game that represents the sport of NFL football, or get benched. EA Sports cannot afford to be dragged through the mud, when year after year they tell untruths about what can and cannot be done in a one year cycle. Here is hoping NBA Elite's benching will sober up the Madden dev team and they actually deliver an NFL game worthy of praise, $65, and the title of best football game ever. What is the likelihood of this happening? LOL We will have to wait the next 7 months and find out what happens next. As of now Madden 11 with all it's patches and tuning is not any better than NBA Elite 11, and definitely not better than NFL 2K5, NFL Fever 2004 or NFL Gameday. Consider yourself warned Madden crew. Respect the sport of Football. Lombardi and Madden will thank you.

EA cant do to madden what they did for elite. Theres another option for a b-ball game until they release it later on, but there is only ONE option for football. Fans would ask for EA heads on a stick if it was done. Once the rights expire then i wouldn't mind it, but until then they better just stay coming out yearly and keep on improving the game. Im calling it right now...NEXT YEAR WILL BE THE YEAR WE REALLY SEE THE MADDEN WE BEEN WAITING AND IT WILL END ALL 2k5 TALKS.........I HOPE lol

As for 2k football....i try not to imagine how it would be now because it just makes me more angry at EA then i already am lol

@Kennyacid: I agree that it cannot happen until there is more than one NFL game available. I believe that there should always be at least two choices so that the customer is not forced into buying one game.

I think we all want the best possible football game. I also feel like the lack of competition has hurt the final product at EA. Madden has not lived up to expectations because the direction at EA seems to be all over the place. Just look at the new NBA2K11 and how polished that game is. We can only dream of what football vids could be if 2K was allowed to continue developing and publishing post-2K5. EA's problems with authentic presentation and gameplay are not contained to Madden alone. Fifa and NHL need big presentation upgrades. Niether title come close to the broadcast authenticity of NBA2K11 or even NFL2K5. I really hope that NFL exclusive license expires and is not renewed so we can have a choice when it comes to football games. I really wish EA would get their act together, but if not I'm more than happy to play better sports games from 2K or SCEA (MLB The Show).
