Contact info - hoopsguy1154 (AIM) and TyrithofMuse (AIM).
Start date for this one is targeted at Monday, October 6th.
A couple of unconventional things going on here with sign-ups for this one:
1.) I'll need to know what character you want to play. I'm more than happy to help with suggestions for people who are not well versed in comics. However, it helps me if you can give some kind of ideas about what kind of character you want to play - either "super powers" or some kind of "WW role" correlation. Requests should be limited to the Marvel universe, since it is the setting for this game (no Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, etc)
For those of you who submitted requests earlier, you can either stick with those characters or go with someone new. Maybe you've had second thoughts, maybe the rules suggest that there is a more optimal play ... I'm absolutely fine with you switching to someone else if you want to do that. But I need a PM, one way or the other, letting me know who you will play.
Once I post a hero/villain, I hope that you will stay with the person out of respect to other players who might have wanted to take the person you choose but will have to instead pick someone else.
2.) You should PM me (and Tyrith) with the character you will be playing. Don't post it in the thread, unless you want to advertise this information. At the start of the game you will receive a PM that tells you the sign-in information for the FOFC/OS account created for your character. There will be a PM waiting for the character that describes his character, faction, and whatever other important game information is required to get going. All posts in the thread, beginning on Day 1, should be done using this name.
Example - Solecismic signs up to be Thor, I'll PM him at start of game with the name/password for the "Thor" FOFC/OS account.
3.) I'll update the player list with the list of registered heroes/villains, not with the actual FOFC names
4.) All PMs to moderators, including the initial sign-up stuff, should go to both me and Tyrith. We will be co-moderators. People who played the last version of this game know that there are a bunch of moving parts and I'm not smart enough to keep track of them all by myself.
I'll add additional items to this "sign-ups" post as they come up.

Moderator Source Note #1 - There were a pair of superhero games on BoardGameGeek (BGG), one involving Thanos and another that was an X-Men based game, that got me looking at comics as source material.
- The Werewolf Gauntlet: The Werewolf Gauntlet - Starting Aug 7 | BoardGameGeek Forums (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/112679)
- X-Man: The Cure: The X-Men Cure - Game Over! | BoardGameGeek Forums (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/117348/page/1)
From there I ran a game here and read one more comic game at BGG. This game draws upon elements from all of the BGG stories, while continuing the story from my first Apocalypse game.
- Apocalypse Awakens: Werewolf XLI - Apocalypse Awakens - Game over! - Front Office Football Central (http://operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=56193)
- End of Forever: The End of Forever - Game Over - Evil Triumphs | BoardGameGeek Forums (http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/151897)
Moderator Source Note #2 - this game will be based very loosely upon the X-Men story "The Age of Apocalypse". This was a story written in 1995 where Professor Xavier is killed, thus creating an alternate timeline where Apocalypse comes to rule. A number of familiar characters are cast in new roles in the harsh "survival of the fittest" regime. In our story, Apocalypse defeated the heroes in "Apocalypse Awakens" and has broadened his power base over the past two years.
Here is a summary of the original story in the comics. Note that I will be quite liberal with my adaptation to werewolf and that events are likely to deviate substantially from the comic version.
- .: UncannyXmen.Net - 8 Years young! : :. (http://www.uncannyxmen.net/db/time/showfaq.asp?fldAuto=13)
Moderator Source Note #3 - anyone who reads all of the links I provide probably has too much time on their hands.
Background:
Apocalypse has established dominion over the Americas and is looking to extend his power across the globe. The primary enforcers of his will are a high council of Prelates. Although there have been sporadic uprisings over the years, but none have had required resources and leadership necessary to disrupt Apocalypse's rule. However, that may be changing as the Hounds have identified a traitorous Prelate. If this wasn't enough of a concern, there is the little matter of the arrival of Galactus, Eater of Worlds, sizing up Earth.
Factions:
Players: 25 (not a fixed #)
Evil/Werewolves: rebellion against DOOM!
Good/Villagers: DOOM!, his Prelates, and those loyal to him
Others: those who don't neatly fit under the other two categories
During sign-ups, each player selects a Marvel comics hero or villain that they would like to play during this game. The moderator has the right to refuse a selection (Galactus cannot be selected) but will try to accommodate any reasonable selection. The moderator will assign roles/powers prior to the start of the game.
The game begins with an established ruling hierarchy under Apocalypse. This is well known to all players - these are public roles. Not all players will have a public role. Each player has a private role that includes powers, health, energy, and win conditions (if different from overall group)
Win Conditions:
Minority ("Good"): Easy way: Overthrow the tyrant (ie - kill Apocalypse, er DOOM!), plus assume majority of seats on ruling council. Hard way: kill Apocalypse (er, DOOM!) and every one of his followers. Either one will do. Oh, and don't let Galactus eat the planet.
Majority ("Evil"): Squash the rebellion - eliminate all good/minority. Don't let Galactus eat the planet.
Others (what? there are others?): ???
Characters:
Each character will be assigned a set of powers, as well as ratings for Health and Energy.
Health - how much damage a character can sustain before they are killed
Energy - the currency for taking actions. All powers cost at least one point of energy
Powers - these will differ from character to character. As you would expect with a comic book theme, some characters will be inherently more powerful than others. Each character will have a Standard Attack, Standard Defense, and at least one "Special" power.
Powers:
There are four classes of damage: physical, energy, psionic, and magical. Characters may have resistances to some or all of these damage types.
There are a few powers that are automatic; these do not need to be declared in thread or via PM.
Expect that there will be some duplicate powers, depending on character selection but a ton of unique powers as well. Powers should be a reflection of the comic book character, but likely will not be an exact representation. In rare cases different powers have been assigned. This is done for both game balance and to introduce some elements of unpredictability in the game.
Recovery:
All characters recover 4 energy and 1 health per day unless otherwise noted. Health cannot exceed the starting value, but there is no cap on energy levels.
If a character does not launch an attack during the Day cycle they will only recover 2 energy. This is in place to encourage participation and to remove any incentives to skipping an action during the day.
Deadlines:
Day ends at 9PM CST
Night ends at 5AM CST
Day Cycle:
Each day players issue a "Standard Attack" - this is the equivalent of "voting". Each character declares their attack and their target in the thread - use caps and bold at the bottom of your post to declare this. A post in the thread assumes that one point of energy will be expended for the attack. However, characters have the option of delivering additional damage. PM the moderator if you want to deliver extra damage. Unlike last game, attacks can be revoked.
Only one attack can be issued per day (although if an attack is revoked, another attack can be initiated in its place). A player may still use a special attack in addition to their standard attack.
Each player has the option to exercise their "Standard Defense". The moderators will accept conditional orders on the use of defense powers, but make sure that the order is as clear and non-ambiguous as possible.
In addition to the Standard Attack/Defense powers, a player may exercise one, and only one, of the following actions over the course of the day/night cycle:
- Special Attack/Ability: every player has at least one option that falls under this category.
- Guard Action: protect a player during the night phase. A guard action ensures that the guarding player is the recipient of a night attack on the player guarded. Note that this may only be ordered by Apocalypse or Prelates - players will not do this of their own volition.
- Mission: participate in a daily mission.
- Galactus: attempt to slow Galactus from destroying the planet.
Once a player has committed to one of these four actions they become ineligible for the other three. So if a player is participating in a mission they are not eligible for guard actions, Galactus actions, or using a Special Attack/Ability.
Lynch (End of Day Cycle):
At the end of the Day cycle, the character who receives the most effective damage (some damage may be negated by use of active or inherent powers) is eligible for lynch. If the effective damage is greater than their remaining health, that character is removed from the game. Additionally, a second character who sustains a level of effective damage greater than or equal to twice their health rating (ex: Health of 6, if reduced to -6 or less they would fall under this rule) will suffer the same fate. So it is possible for there to be no "lynch" or for their to be two "lynches" in a given day. The tie-breaker for 2nd kill, if it comes to that, is 1.) furthest value from zero 2.) most damage sustained in current day.
Note - Apocalypse can be injured by attacks, but cannot be the victim of a conventional lynch.
In the event that there is not a day kill (excluding Day 1) Galactus will move one day closer to devouring the planet. No, this doesn't really fit from a comic book standpoint, but it does create consequences for the players if they attempt to "wait out" the minority force.
Conditional rule – in the event that there are more than 25 players, then any player who is knocked to negative starting health (6 starting health, = -6 or lower at end of day) is also dead.
Players will likely not have complete information on damage delivered by attacks over the course of the day, but the end of day recap will include the total amount of damage delivered to each character. Note that this amount will often differ from the amount of damage sustained by the players. The recap will also include the player who executed the "kill shot". Character faction will be revealed upon death.
Night Cycle:
Many characters will have powers that can be used during the Night Cycle. This includes the "minority" force, who have the option to execute a night kill during this phase. Note that the night kills take energy, just like any other activity. Players may be able to impact the night kill through use of powers or guard actions. Below is the order for night actions.
Order of Night Actions:
1. Defense actions
2. Research actions
3. Attack actions
4. Energy/health regeneration
Tie-breakers on order - actions that cost less energy are processed before actions that cost more energy within the same category. In the event of a tie in order of operations and energy cost, the first action submitted will be processed first.
Additional Concepts:
Prelates:
The ruling class in Apocalypse's order, the Prelates are responsible for enforcing his will. There is a declared hierarchy among the Prelates. Each of the Prelates is publicly known by all players.
- Prelates have option to issue an order to a player to do one of the following: "Guard", "Mission", or "Galactus"
- A player has the option to refuse an order (privately or publicly) if they are the target of an order in consecutive days
- In the event that Prelates have conflicting orders, the order of the higher ranking Prelate will be followed
- The 1st and 2nd Prelates cannot be ordered at all, but lower ranking Prelates may be ordered by Apoc, the 1st Prelate, or the 2nd Prelate
- In the event that a Prelate is killed, all eligible Prelates move up one rank and Apocalypse (er, DOOM!) assigns a new Prelate. No new Prelates are assigned after the death of Apocalypse (er, DOOM!)
Guard Action:
- only ordered by Prelates
- precludes use of other "special actions" during day/night cycle
- when ordered by Prelate, the order will dictate both the player who will guard and the person they will protect. Example - "Prelate Silver Surfer orders Wolverine to guard Captain America"
- when a player is on guard duty, they become the target of a night attack in place of the person they are protecting. Example - Wolverine takes an attack intended for Captain America (as well as any attacks targeted at Wolverine, if he is not protected by another player)
- a Prelate can "bluff" the order. If this is the intent, the Prelate must PM the moderators to inform them of his intention. This must take place during the day phase. The moderator will convey this information to the player ordered to guard at the start of the night cycle, allowing them the option to take an alternative night action. However, the “pseudo-ordered” player does miss out on the chance to participate in Mission Actions or Galactus Actions as a result of the bluff. The penalty for the Prelate is that they sacrifice the option to issue Guard actions for the remainder of the game.
Mission Action:
- as a general rule, there will be one mission per day
- participation in "mission action" precludes use of other "special actions" during day/night cycle
- players who participate on a mission will PM the moderator the amount of energy they want to use to help make the mission a "success"
- missions may involve competition between factions, or a pre-set amount of energy needed to complete a mission
- each mission will involve either rewards for the winners or some sort of penalty for failure
Galactus Action:
- once per day the players can send a group of players to encounter Galactus
- participation in "Galactus mission" precludes use of other "special actions" during day/night cycle
- players who participate on Galactus action will PM the moderator the amount of energy they want to use on the mission
- activity in these missions is intended to slow Galactus' progress in devouring the planet or to deter him entirely
Voice of the Madri - the masses of players can stage a revolt against a prelate by popular vote. Apoc and the 1st Prelate are immune to this, but all others are potentially vulnerable to this. All prelates below the disgraced prelate move up a rank and a new prelate is inserted immediately in the 5th Prelate role. This is separate from an attack - just a straight "vote" option that is available. The Prelates (and Apocalypse) are not part of this vote. Can only be exercised once per three days.
"Make Your Own Power" - aren't happy with what the moderator assigned you? Once per game, you have the option to create your own power based on your comic book character. PM the moderators with your concept for how the power should work, what the cost should be, when it can be used, etc. Moderators will either approve, "counter-offer", or outright refuse. Refusal does not count as use of the power. The PM conversation must take place at least one day before it can be used (day + night cycle). The intent here is to encourage creative play that is within the spirit of the theme.
Teams:
Heroes may form "teams" by mutual declaration within the thread. Team benefits include:
1.) Receive a bonus when teammates act together on Mission Actions and Galactus Actions, larger bonuses for more participants
2.) Opportunity for enhanced communication if certain in-game parameters are met
3.) One extra point of damage delivered if two teammates deliver attack posts with back-to-back posts in the thread (post #101, post #102). This is cumulative (post #103 for a 3rd teammate)
4.) Some powers may be more effective in team environment
5.) Opportunity for additional rewards based on duration of team
6.) Opportunity for team sabotage at any time. Can be completed in one of two ways, will be known publicly either way:
- siphon energy from team during night cycle, saboteur gains 1/2 of energy (rounding down) from every teammate in addition to their own energy
- can 100% negate actions of all teammates on a Mission Action or Galactus Action
Teams can be formed and broken up at any time. The declaration of a team must be agreed upon in the thread. The team should be announced in bold, with the name of the team and all member of the team. Additional benefits may become available for teams who remain together for a sustained period of time.
Additional Game Notes:
1. If you try to use a power and do not have enough power to use it the power will not activate
2. If you try to use a power and use more energy than you currently have, the moderator will assign all remaining energy to the power
3. No editing posts
4. Unlike last game, not all actions are processed in real time. This is to allow defensive powers to be more useful. The moderators will note any actions that will be processed immediately, either in character PM or within the game thread.
4. Character powers will take precedence over any rules posted in this thread. The rules here are meant to apply to the majority, but in some cases may not apply to a small minority
5. This is a comic book setting. Expect some new mechanics for this game that pay homage to a comic book universe.
6. Playing in character is highly encouraged. The moderator reserves the right to reward players for especially good role play, either publicly or privately.
7. If a character is driven below 25% of their health, but still lives into the next day, they will be listed at 25% of their health (rounding up) heading into the night cycle. Regular healing will take place at that time.
9/30 edit: clarification on win conditions, previous use of word "evil" was inaccurate
10/2 edit: added info on Apoc "unlynchable" status
10/6 edit: updated "wolf" victory conditions to include "kill 'em all" as alternate path to victory
10/9 edit: updated win conditions
Okay, I'll play as Green Lantern.
Is it important to read all those rules? Or can I just take my power ring into the fray and proceed to do battle?
I kid, I kid.

20 in the books so far! I'm getting greedy and hoping to grab a couple of more players between now and the start date.
Also, there is a pretty good chance that D1 will end up spanning Monday and Tuesday. Tyrith is unavailable that day and it looks like I'll be visiting a new client that day. So everyone should have a little more time to get adjusted to the new rules.

I'll be closing sign-ups at midnight on Friday. I'll need the weekend to address final game balance issues, finalize account creation for all the heroes, and get the initial PMs sent.
Day 1 will be an extended day, spanning Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully this gives plenty of time for people to get comfortable with the rules. I'm expecting Day 1 will be a little more eventful than usual, given the structure of this game - day cycle isn't just "vote someone out".

Would it be helpful for people if I list information on the heroes in the game? I can put the Wikipedia, or alternate, link up that I used as part of the character creation process if people would like to see that added.

Also, a note on the "universe" where this game takes place. It is not exactly a friendly place. Apocalpyse lives by the motto "survival of the fittest" and each of you is (or is pretending to be) a member of his elite forces. The best of you are self-serving, while the worst of you are outright psycopaths. This is true even for those of you who are "heroes" in the normal Marvel universe.
Want to play nicely with others? Chances are the rest of the players are not trying to create "win/win" scenarios, but instead to advance up the ruling hierarchy.
Want to backstab everyone in your path? A great strategy as long as you have the strength to carry the day.
Want to sacrifice your minions (er .. allies) while trapping the traitors? Now we're talking ...

Oh, just thought about a balancing issue if you're encouraging role playing. You can't role play someone who is smarter than you, (ie it's not going to help me if I'm Mr Fantastic, Henry Pym or Beast but you can role play so it makes you do things that aren't omptimum in the game. That means that the village is likely to play slightly dumber than usual (I'm taking a wild guess that the wolves won't be going all out to role play, although they'll be able to use role playing as a cover).

Given that the villagers are servants of Apocalypse that should be just because the person you're playing is usually good that doesn't mean you're bad in this game.

Five more characters left to create. Then I get to start sending out the PMs, most likely late afternoon, early evening.
Learned something interesting along the way - Yahoo stops you from creating more than ten new accounts in a 24 hour period. So some of the accounts will be tied to MS "Live" accounts instead of Yahoo.
This potentially will be of interest to a few people once the game is underway ...

The power of Apocalypse has grown over the past five years. The defeate of "The Twelve" was the last significant heroic resistance effort in North America. New York City was reduced to a smoldering ruin when the remaining heroes crashed the Celestial ship in a last ditch effort to stem the tide. However, it was for naught as Apocalypse and his minions escaped unscathed.
The battle is now focused on the other side of the world, where consolidated European and Asian forces have succeeded in thwarting Apocalypse's advances. Still, defeat seems just a matter of time as Apocalypse controls the vast majority of super-powered humans and an arsenal of high-tech weaponry that has no peer in all of the world.
Still, there are those who would oppose the rule of your sovereign. Most of the rabble are quickly identified and either integrated or exterminated. But this morning there is a more serious plot afoot.
A holograph of Mr. Sinister, the chief scientist for Apocalypse, greets each of you. Before him is the nearly unrecognizable body of Moon Knight, the former First Prelate - second only to Lord Apocalypse! "It seems we have traitors in our midst. It is the will of Apocalypse that this threat is contained using whatever force you deem necessary. Those who serve will be rewarded. As for the rest of you ... the future is not as promising."

I am here to serve our master Apocalypse in bringing his new order to the World.
I see that some are already looking to form teams, old habits die hard for some it seems. While teams may help in the battle to stamp out the traitors amongst us we should remember that our ultimate loyalty belongs with Apocalypse not to these teams. We should not allow inconsequential loyalty between team members to deflect us form hunting out those who seek to overthrow the new regime. Anyone whose stated reason for attacking someone is "because my team is doing it" should be viewed with suspicion, as this is the perfect excuse for traitors to whittle down our numbers.
I would also suggest that thought be given to whether we should be looking to kill someone today in order to start the hunt for the traitors or whether we should marshall our resources for a day. This will mean that we can fully use the talents we have available to hunt down the traitors. I have no qualms killing, or being killed, in the service of our master but we may be wasting resources thrashing around blindly so early. A possible solution to maximise our resources would be for everyone to attack the person before them in the list provided. If we all make token attacks then we can better muster our resources to better pinpoint the cancer which we can then excise.
The drawback with this plan is that we probably delay crushing the rebellion which may give Galactacus the time to strike and we apply no pressure on the traitors today, and gain no useful data to study in later days. The advantages are that we don't remove someone with powers that can be of great benefit to our master Apocalypse and we accumulate energy by making the token attack.
I am normally in favour of taking the direct approach and seeking to resolve a situation as quickly as possible but in this case I think we may be better served by allowing all loyal subjects of Apocalypse the chance to use their multitude of talents to gather information and weed out the traitors.

[OOC]I'll soon be changing tags to IC instead because I hate trying to role play. If we want a no lynch today with suffering an energy loss the way to do it is to attack the person ahead of us in the list with minimal force. I believe that costs 1 EP, while we gain 4 EP after the night phase if we attack someone. If we just don't attack then we only gain 2 EP at night. For that to be workable we need to decide if that's the course we want to follow today though. I'm not particularly pushing the idea just saying that if we want to have a no lynch vote then that's the way to do it.
We've had a lot of success on day ones recently targeting baddies, but this definitely feels like one of those games were there's more to be gained by letting the multiple roles in the game strut their stuff during the night phase (as happened in the Heroes game). The only problem is that I presume there's some sort of time limit on when Galactus eats the world and we might not want to wait around too long sitting on our hands. Day one is the only day we get a free ride with not killing anyone though so it might be worth holding off.

Sometimes the law is helpless to act, even when it identifies the guilty. It follows, therefore, that sometimes it is necessary to act ouside the law, to shame its inadequacy, to pursue a natural justice. I'm not talking about vengeance. Revenge is not a valid motive. It's a tawdry, emotional response no better than the act that provokes it. I'm talking about... punishment.

This might seem to be an ideal plan for this early in the game. If we follow this, the Scarlet Witch would receive my lightest attack. I know little of her at this time, so I hope she would not hold this against me.
I will be consulting with my underground sources through much of the day, in an attempt to get information to track the rebellion. I will only be able to check in sporadically, but will when I can.

The voice of Mister Sinister rings in the heads of each of you.
"We have an immediate opportunity, or a threat, depending on your perspective. There is an omega-level mutant telepath whose nascent powers are about to be realized. The rebellion also knows of this individual. It is imperative that we do not allow this individual to join the rebellion. If possible, you should capture this candidate. If that is not possible, ensure that she cannot help the rebellion. Some of you are better suited for this mission than others, but it is up to you to determine the make-up of the team. It is unlikely that any one individual is capable of suppressing this threat alone. Choose wisely, for Apocalypse does not meekly tolerate failure by his charges."
The mission team, as well as the amount of energy to be spent by each member, must be submitted by 5AM CST on Tuesday. Results will be posted shortly after this time.

I think that if we want to follow that course then we need wide agreement. If there are enough people baying for blood today, as Punisher and Ghostrider seem to be, then trying to follow this plan could prove worse than useless. The traitors will be able to avoid exposing themselves by taking sides, claiming to be following this plan, while those wanting to make a kill will be able to pool their power to do so. I'm not even sure myself that inaction is the best course in this situation and I'm not sure if the plan is workable without expressed support from our leaders.

We would benefit greatly in this mission if eveyone sent to subdue the mutant forms a team. Admittedly there is a chance that a traitor will infiltrate this mission but they will have to reveal themselves in order to sabotage the mission, something I doubt they will want to risk at this early stage, while team work should ensure the success of the operation.

OK, heading out for the day - not sure I'll have any access between now and this evening (roughly 8PM). Tyrith is probably out until 6PM or so.
A couple of reminders on the rules related to missions. I anticipate that this will be helpful to all parties involved.
1.) Participation in a mission counts as a "special action" - so does an ordered guard, participation in a Galactus mission, or the use of a "Special Action" power. If you do one, you cannot do the others. This is a balancing act.
2.) If you want to form a team, each member must post their willingness to join the team. This is similar to last game, for those of you who played in it. Please name your team as well.
3.) Prelates have the option to issue orders, but do not have to do so. If an order is issued, it is binding. However, if someone takes a special action prior to order the special action takes precedence.

Another note: please PM both moderators the amount of energy you wish to spend on either a "Mission" or "Galactus" special action. We will not honor requests in the thread for either of these actions. No PM = default choice of 1.

Many of the assembled beings here are well-suited for various tasks, each important to the continued and ever-expanding Pax Apocalypto.
I would like to see those most suited to finding and purging the traitorous vermin in our midst to do just that. I do not find myself with particular talents in this area.
Those with abilities to confront and hinder the world-eating Galactus should certainly turn their attentions to him. I believe the Vision equal to this task.
And Prelate Sinister has brought a third important priority to our attention, which is elevated in importance due to the immediacy of its nature. We shall require several resources to step forward publicly to confront this need as well. My powers make me suitable for a capture/neutralize mission, but I estimate that we have members among us very wel suited indeed to... convincing... this young mutant to join the side of right and justice.
Think well upon these words, and respond as to your intentions. I will be watching and evaluating your words and deeds.

Excellent points, android.

I agree with Vision Eric. I think that with my demonstrated history of being able to find fellow mutants, as well as my telepathic talents, I am perhaps the ideal candidate for this mission. I also have other talents that may lead to the mission being successful. You are quite welcome to stay behind old friend, and I shall handle this on my own, along with your progeny, as well as perhaps several other members whose talents lead them to believe that they would be able to assist in capture missions (perhaps great strength to aid Pietro's blinding speed)?

On that note, I would be interested in joining a team of likeminded individuals to try to crush the rebellion. I see the wisdom in your statement Eric, and concede that perhaps we have been focused too much on assembling a "proper" team for each mission, when in reality with the wealth of powers available to each of us I doubt there is a "required" team roster to complete any given mission.

Henry. Well met, my old friend.
This is intriguing indeed, as you and I have certainly had great benefit from one another's talents in the past.
At the moment, however, I find myself gravely concerned with the threat of Galactus, and I wonder if you and Reed share that view. Our three minds, plus the power of both Silver Surfer and my own android form would most assuredly give pause to the giant's intentions.
I propose that we dedicate a team to do exactly this, in fact: Daily attack and distract the world eater, even unto driving him from this planet entirely. Picture the might of Silver Surfer, the Vision, Mr. Fantastic, Henry Pym, and, if he can tear himself away from his brethren of mutantkind long enough, Magneto... why, Mr. Fantastic and Surfer have themselves been the fly in Galactus' ointment more often than the rest of us put together. Add in the rest of our collective talents, and I'll wager that the devourer's threat will end quickly enough for us to rejoin our comrades in mopping up the remains of the rebellion.

However if Jean feels that this is the best usage of her talents, then I am certainly willing to step aside and allow her to lead this hunt.
The fact that she seemed to feel so strongly leads me to believe that perhaps she feels she has a distinct advantage here.
Upon review, I concur, Professor. If this is the direction Ms. Grey was leading with her post, I apologize for misinterpreting. I do indeed believe that both of you should not waste your immense talents on this one mission when there are insects waiting to be stepped on here in our own house, as it were. I hope I have been clear that my intent has been only to make the most of each of our abilities, as we find ourselves fighting a war on three fronts, putting us at an inherent disadvantage.
I also think that the anger between Vision and yourself is misguided Eric. We have seen it's like before - indeed, everytime we gather.
I must point out, my friend, that my words are born of calculation, not anger. While Magneto and I have given more than enough reason for animous betwixt us in the past, I (and he, pending evidence to the contrary) have now as my highest goal the continuation and expansion of the rule of Apocalypse.

Greetings, fellow followers of Apocalype.
I find myself in a somewhat unique position among us, as I must weigh carefully whether I should exert my significant mental abilities against the contribution of my equally significant physical abilities to our various causes.
I believe, for the time being, that I shall ponder all of the various courses of action that I may take, and render a decision at a later point in time.

Hmmmm I will have to think on this Vision. I am certainly concerned about the World-Eater and my abilities are versatile enough that I could have some effect in stopping him I think, but I could not commit to participating in a daily action against him as that would cause me to neglect many of my other potential functions in service to Apocalypse.
I understand, Henry. You are without question among the most diverse of us in terms of utility in dissimilar circumstances. I would welcome your aid, but if you feel it better that you remain behind you have my support, my friend.

Thank you for that Bonita. I was aware of your character's connection to "God" but was not aware of our personal connection. That is very interesting indeed. So I shall look upon you fondly in this endeavor except of course if you are truly not in the service of Apocalypse. Not that I have any reason to believe you are not of course. If I can help you during the course of this adventure then I shall be glad to.

Why should we attack those above us with minimal force? This plan sounds exactly like what those traitors among us want us to do. Those who would propose such a plan and those who would so quickly agree to it need to be looked at closely.
We need to attack those who will betray us and attack with the fullest extent of our powers. We can eliminate these traitors and form what could become a very profitable team, a team that needs a driving force behind it to succeed.

Professor, there do appear to be positive consequences for keeping a team together, provided they are each acting in good faith:

For your convenience, I have highlighted the key word of this message. While I agree fully that you three are well suited to bringing this mission to an acceptable conclusion, I strongly encourage other support members to accompany one of the telepaths, leaving the other two to remain behind, proving their loyalty by uncovering the traitorous dogs we are tasked with destroying.
You appear to be reading too much into my powers Vision. I believe that I can best judge where my talents will be most useful and in this case I believe that they will be best deployed helping to round up this errant mutant and bringing him into the fold of service to Apocalypse. I trust Jean to be able to judge where to best use her talents and I hope that I can be trusted to do the same. I have experience of working with Jean and I think that working together, with help from other volunteers we should be able to complete this mission. Unfortunately I do not have the luxury of time to wait for a direct order from the prelates so I will commit to the mission unless ordered not to in the next half hour.

We need to attack those who will betray us and attack with the fullest extent of our powers. We can eliminate these traitors and form what could become a very profitable team, a team that needs a driving force behind it to succeed.
And how do you propose that we discover who the traitors are? Are you privy to that information already? If so let us know and I venture we will all attack to the fullest extent of our powers. Otherwise you may well be unleashing the full extent of your power on someone who may be of use in finding the traitors. Until we have more information to work with I will be very suspicious of anyone wasting more energy than necessary on attacks that, more likely than not, will be against loyal servants of Apocalypse.

A sensible question, Charles. In addition to my own physical powers, if I am not mistaken, the mighty Colossus has volunteered for service. Others, I'm sure, could provide a physical presence.
Pietro has expressed a willingness to go, and he likely could provide a variety of talents that also could be helpful.

I believe Pietro may have some talents that could prove to be useful, but for that matter, so does Miss Frost. without the consult of my fellow team members,
I'm not sure that your team has been correctly formed. My understanding (based on studying the account of Apocalypse's rise to power) is that two members must mutually nominate a team and then invite members who then accept. It seems a long-winded, bureaucratic way to procede but you know how you men are.
I am now commiting to the mission. I believe a team of four or five should be sufficient for the task, as we do not wish to overextend ourselves on this matter.

I believe the risk of sabotage is less than during the time when Apocalypse so masterfully arose to power. Sabotage occurs at the expense of the traitor revealing their action openly and this should make teams safe at this early stage. Once we have a better idea of where people's loyalties lie we may wish to rethink team structures. With the proviso that nobody uses team membership as an empty excuse to make an attack.
GhostRider
10-06-2008, 02:11 PM
This is why I feel that smaller, four man (or people for you ladies out there) teams, are compelling. If a mission is sabotaged, we've definitely got a very narrow pool to draw from. The larger are teams and missions, while more powerful are also more at risk for a traitor hiding in the ranks.
ProfessorX
10-06-2008, 02:11 PM
This is a very good point that you make Eric. As I mentioned, I do not feel I have particular talents suited for this mission, so I am un-nominating myself for the mission. I trust Jean and Emma's insight into their powers and that they will not need me - moreover I am not sure that it is even best to send both of them.
