Spotlight: Jewone Crockett

Draft Spotlight: FS Jewone Crockett-Purdue

Coaches say Crockett is "Electric, Instinctual, and Gifted" while opponents prefer to call him "Wreckless, Incompassionate and Dangerous". We have never seen a player surrounded by controversy quite like Crockett as he continues to make waves in the NCAA in some of the worst ways.

With concussions coming to the forefront of our sport, player safety has quickly risen to the top of the priority list for the NFL and other organizations. Crockett's hard hitting, body sacrificing hits has flown in the face of all the progress made in the last 10 years. Coaches have spent countless hours working on tackling technique with Jewone but according to an anonymous source "When he hits the field his natural instincts just come out, and those instincts are to hurt people."

Crockett has now been ejected from 3 of Purdue's last 6 games, and the B1G conference has warned him that any further ejections could result in an unprecedented season long suspension.

However controversial his playstyle, it has been effective as recievers are always weary in the secondary which has led to 6 INT's so far for Jewone. NFL Scounts are said to be intrigued by his physicality and toughness but also realize that he is a huge liability and PR nightmare. Will a team be willing to take a risk on this big hitter?

Re: Draft Dudes

Draft Spotlight: C Korbin Kinney

Iowa

Let's be honest, Iowa isn't known nationwide for a whole lot of anything. However, if there is one thing they can hang their hats on, it is that the University of Iowa turns out some big time NFL-ready offensive lineman. Since the turn of the century, Iowa has seen 4 OL go in the first round alone (Robert Gallery 04, Bryan Bulaga 10, Reilly Reiff 12, Brandon Scherff 15).

While Korbin Kinney isn't likely to add to those 1st round numbers, this is a kid everyone should have on their radar. His football skills may need some polishing but there is no arguing that the mental side is all there for this kid.

Kinney grew up football. His dad, Caleb Kinney, has been the OL coach at Iowa for the last 18 years and had a large hand in developing some of the names I mentioned previously. If Korbin wanted alone time with dad, he knew he often had to get it beside him in the film room. Korbin began to soak up that knowledge and you could clearly see it on the field as he became an extension of his father on the field, coaching up his teammates and quickly alerting them when they made a mental mistake.

However, Kinney's mental fortitude doesn't stop on the football field. Not only has he been a 2 year starter on the football team, but he has also maintained a 4.2 GPA in his field of Molecular Engineering and become a candidate for the Rhodes Scholarship. He will make some NFL coaches job much easier, although it may be better for the world if this kid goes in to bigger and better things then football.
