I was hoping I wasn't imagining things when I saw that category in the rugby section. I figured it was empty as the season hasn't started, but was still being skeptical that it would actually happen.

Is there any kind of press release or story talking about it? Would love to read details.

Okay, nevermind details, just saw that literally every Super Rugby match is on ESPN3 the first week, so I assume it'll be the same going forward.

Just...wow.

Re: OS Rugby Thread

Watched two Super Rugby games this weekend—much more entertaining than Six Nations.

I’m still very much a novice when it come to union and league, but I’ll at least share what I saw, perceived to see, obvious things, etc.

Hurricanes v Brumbies
Wow. So, the Brumbies are the favorites to win, with something like 11.5 wins being the over/under. They certainly looked up to it, absolutely smashing the Hurricanes. I can’t help but wonder how the scoreline would’ve looked if they wouldn’t have been continuously penalized in the ruck. Definitely going to try and watch more of their matches.

Bulls v Stormers

Could just be one game, but I feel like in past Super Rugby games I’ve noticed this also—the South African matches seem so much more well attended and have far much more of an atmosphere. It was nice to see big crowd always vocally invested.

I was worrying we wouldn’t see any tries in this as it first started, but eventually the Stormers ran away with it. I lost count of how many times the Bulls lost possession on a line out—although even in possession they rarely seemed threatening to move the ball forward.

Two rules changes that were mentioned a lot as it was the first round was the new bonus points system, in which you’re awarded one by scoring three or more tries than your opponent—and also referees being encouraged to penalize players more for not cleaning out on the ruck faster. Love them both. Especially the idea of play continuing quicker after a tackle.

Re: OS Rugby Thread

Haven't got a chance to see their matches yet, but it will be interesting to see how the Jaguares and the Sunwolves get on.

Nice. Part of me hopes rugby remains a niche sport in America, but more rugby on TV is cool. And rugby sevens doesn't count lol.

Re: OS Rugby Thread

Didn't realize NBCSN had rights to the Aviva Premiership. London Irish vs. Saracens is on live right now.

EDIT: Guess who didn't read the thread before posting!

This is a one time thing for this year. Next year, they have exclusive rights.

Been a good start so far.
