When do you think 2K confirms anything?

With Chau's comments, "wait until next year," in reference to a possible 2K football game, I'm beginning to wonder what next year will bring us.

I know that CES is coming, perhaps then? Or should we just expect the game to hit shelves without a clue?

I promise you the game wont hit the shelves without major promotion. That would be suicide. I wouldnt expect anything until late spring early summer if that. CES isnt a video game show so I wouldnt expect an annoucement then.

For a generic game, there has to be a big media campaign. Anything else would be pure idiocy.

Beginning of summer. Just enough time to build up some hype, and football fans already itching for training camp and offseason to start. Plus there won't be enough time for EA to react.

I would say during the Superbowl would be a great time to release a commercial because of the largest audience. But realistically I would guess in July/August right before Madden releases.

Re: When do you think 2K confirms anything?

Okay, we have TWO things here, three if you count the question of advertising.

First, when do we get confirmation of a game? I'd love to see a press release in January, but they could very well save it for E3 (even though it isn't the big show of years past) which would be, May?

Second, when do they actually release the game? I'd say early June, as the football gamers are getting hyped with the draft, free agency, and the expectation of new football games. This also gives a generic game the market to itself for at least a month (until the college game) and two months or better over Madden.

Third, advertising? I'd expect a low-key approach. Lots of internet advertising on selected websites, game magazines, and very little of the expensive TV ads.

A 2K football game will be embraced by the hardcore fans, who'll create rosters/leagues for others to download, and grow from there. If EA does little to improve Madden 08, then expect steady sales through the year as some gamers take a chance on the 2K game.

Which brings us to a fourth factor: Price. I can see a $39.99 price for the first several months, then down to $29.99 to spike sales. With next-gen games going for $60 each, it makes $30 seem like a bargain, and less of a risk to buy.

Re: When do you think 2K confirms anything?

To be honest with you... look at how well the Burger King video games did. They outsold Gears of War in two-thirds the time. They should go for a fan base more than a large profit in the first year. I'd say go back to a $19.99 or a $29.99 price again. They need fans more than money at this point... if they were doing just fine without football the last two years, I'm sure they can survive one more year without a more money again.

Of course, I'm just a kid... and that's probably just stupid thinking on my part.
