History of 2K Football

I suppose for some this is just another game being released, but for me, it's more than that. This football franchise has led me to make a group of friends that are scattered across the US and have held annual online leagues since NFL 2K2's release. When things went sour in 2004, it was pretty rough, and our leagues suffered from it. Now, with this year's release of APF2K8, we're all again excited to kick off another season.

I was going to do some research and put together a timeline of 2K Football, but it seems Wikipedia has done a fairly good job of that. What I did do was compile a banner of each release of 2K Football, from September 1999 to Today.

Here's the link to Wiki:

I hope everyone that has long anticipated this game's release enjoys it. I know I will.

Re: History of 2K Football

I thought the first game sucked-it was near impossible to gain 3 or 4 yards on a running play. The second game fared a little better but the online played was mired in the muck of dial up and cheesers ruled.

I loved NFL 2k1. Never played it online...but I loved that game. It was much more realistic than anything I had ever played before.

lol..ok

I think the first thing I learned with online play is gather a group of friends you know are worth the effort and play them.

Actually the 56k on the Dreamcast wasn't that laggy. I was quite impressed. Haha, I remember typing messages with they keyboard.

I will say that they did a great job of making a fairly playable online game given the limitations.

2k1 was the game for the dreamcast. I played so much of that game. It absolutely demolished anything on the ps1.

Re: History of 2K Football

I remember picking up NFL2k for $20 at my local Wal-Mart after we got our Dreamcast and it quickly became the best $20 I've spent on a video game.

The following year I got 2k1 and I totally enjoyed that (played one of my best games on it when I hit Owens for a 80 yd TD with no time left to beat Washington).

I skipped 2k2 as our Dreamcast broke and I could never find the PS2 version, went with Madden instead.

I bought 2k3 on my GC and enjoyed it as well.

2k4 disappointed me a little, something just felt off.

Then 2k5 came out and I still play it to this day. Its the only reason I bought an Xbox (originally had the PS2 version) and its going to be my NFL game this season (thanks to the updated rosters).
