Anyone have videos/advice for using speed/agile RBs?

I'm a long time NCAA player, but played my fair share of 2k5, but the last time was well over a year ago, and I'm a Skins guy, and Portis was pretty much shoulder charge, shoulder charge, sprint.

From what I've got, I'm thinking jukes have to be executed at a farther range from the defenders than NCAA. Does any one have any videos, diagrams, or any help to offer? All of my distance runs are pretty much following blocks, which is normal, but I can't get Barry Sanders or Payton to shake generics one on one.

I seem to mostly use the right analog stick for jukes while running. I get some cool spins by flicking left or right when about to be tackled. Give that a try.

pay attention to which players have which special moves. And yes they do need to be executed earlier than they do in NCAA, some moreso than others. Spin moves need to be executed very early. shoulder charge and stiff arm, not so much.

Well, since you're a speed runner you should be going outside.

It helps to know what the defense is doing on each play though.
The CB is going to engage the WR, the safety is going to come down at you.
If the CB is coming down at you, the WR will block the safety.

Everyone else is going sideline to sideline at different depths. The OlB will be straight across, the mlb is a little behind that. The only other players that come DOWN at you are user controlled players or players blitzing.

If the Blitz is picked up, you run in that area to exploit it, if not, you try and take advantage of how fast the blitzer is running by juking away from them (north south) or changing direction(east West)

When you run in this game there are 3 important things.
Your vision.
Your patience.
Your movement.

How fast you mash the buttons means nothing unless you are running away from someone.

Jerky movements result in jerky moves on the field.
You want to move fluid. And explode through daylight. Running in this game is 3 dimensional, and your blockers move to the second level. If you are going to make a cutback run, you need to wait for your blockers to clear a path.

Running east to west is simple enough, if you are chased at the same depth, you run away to the sideline.
If you are behind chased at a downward angle, you try and cut inside of that player and then either bounce back outside, or continue inside looking for second level blocking.

Hit practice mode, run plays over and over, watch replays of your runs.
You'll see the holes that your are missing, you'll see all the places you could have cutback and set up your blockers. Run, watch, Run, watch, until you start to KNOW where those cutback lanes should be.

It's hard at first then it just "clicks"

You can also use the right analog stick and do combinations. i have a few cool replays i saved. I need to learn how to record video from my xbox. Anyone know how to do it? without using a regular video camera. I have one, but i dont like the qualty.

Re: Anyone have videos/advice for using speed/agile RBs?

Co-sign on the above posts. I've recently discovered the improtance of looking for lanes, letting the play develop, and then cutting to daylight. Quick feet and the cutback ability now seem much more important to me than button mashing, as does patience to the hole and patience when letting your blockers set up on the second level. I've done the practice mode thing and have seen how if I just waited a millisecond longer and cut back inside, an 8 yard run could have been an 80 yard run. To help get a feel for this, I would recommend using the l-stick lightly as you set up your run rathern than going full speed and tapping the speed burst button. This will allow your blockers time to set up, and it will better allow you to hit the hole if it's not right in front of you, as well as the cutback lane if you get to the second level.

To my mind, this is one of the coolest features about the game, but like everything else about the game, there's a learning curve and it takes some practice. I can't remember playing a game where practice mode was both so necessary and so fun. I spent an hour the other day running a single running play just to see where the lanes were versus different fronts, which fronts would necessitate an audible, etc.

And lastly, re: the OP's original question, yes, you have to juke a little earlier in this game than in NCAA, but when you get it, man is it sweet. I juked Eric Turner with a generic HB in a season game last night en route to a 60 yard run. I think I got into the animation 3-4 yards before contact, and I cut inside while he was running down and toward my outside shoulder. The benefit to juking as opposed to cutting back in that case, I think, is that the juke gives you more separation, whereas the cutback will likely force you to bump shoulders or get within distance of a reach tackle; depending on the size and strength of your back, this could mean the end of the run.

Anyway, good feedback all, and I hope this helps. Love the strategy in this game!
