So I finally decided to give APF2k8 a try...

Let me start by saying this is not a bash madden thread. I have been a Madden fan since 92', but like many of you I have not enjoyed the next gen offerings.(Although I have bought them all) With that said, I do think Ian and crew will get this game where it needs to be, hopefully starting this year.

Anyway, after all the talk of 2k football on here (I only played NFL 2k1 for the dreamcast) I decided to download the demo of APF2k8. After playing it for about an hour I must agree that the gameplay and animations are phenomenal. I cannot figure out how to kick, and dont really know how to audible and hot route but here are some things I was impressed with...

-Passing game was very smooth (I also liked the way the camera followed the ball to the reciever)
-Speed of the game was perfect (I even liked the button mashing as turbo)
-MOMENTUM AND PHYSICS
-Animations were very well done
-The SFX of the pads hitting, grunting, etc (Madden desperately needs this)
-Kicking game (Even though I couldnt figure it out, it seemed challenging and the ball reacted realistically in the air)
-Crowd reactions (While far from perfect, light years ahead of Madden. NHL 10 and NBA Live have gotten this down now so I am expecting it to be in Madden 11)
-Pocket is amazing (Double team blocks)
-The good players really stick out (Legends)
-QB play is very SIM (No roll and chuck)
-WR/DB interaction seemed very well done
- Tiered defensive play calling (Maddens playbooks are MUCH better but I wish they had Tiered defensive playcalling)
-MOMENTUM and PHYSICS (Just wanted to say this again, it isnt perfect but it far surpasses what Madden has done to date)

These are just a few things I noticed after only playing for an hour but I hope Madden can get all these things incorporated into Madden 11.

If anyone wants to chime in (dont turn this into a bash madden thread) but I would just like to hear what else you think Madden can take from APF2k8. I only played for an hour, and yes the graphics are terrible and it is very raw, but I was very impressed with the game play.

PS- If anyone can tell me how to kick it would be greatly appreciated

This football game is by far the closest thing you will get to real football game play. You played the demo and haven't even got the updates that went with the game and you liked it LOL.

When you kick you pull back on the right stick and when you see the leg of the kicker go forward you click forward as if the analog stick is the leg your kicking with. The faster you click forward the farther the distance but watch out that you don't go right or left on the stick because this will cause you to slice or hook your kick. Best football kicking mechanics to date.

Here are a few videos you might enjoy enough to make you spend $5 to purchase the game and join us...

Re: So I finally decided to give APF2k8 a try...

Thanks NFLHitman, and believe it or not, today at lunch I went out and bought a copy! I am very excited to get home and dive into this game to see what else it has to off. How can I best enjoy this game, do you play more on-line or do you play franchise mode? Also, is there any way to get real rosters and jerseys?

Thanks!

Re: So I finally decided to give APF2k8 a try...

I will admit I have never been a big 2k fan. I used to play NBA 2k a decent amount, but I was just getting tired of how stale Madden's gameplay is so I downloaded the APF demo.

I just cannot believe how much better APF's gameplay is, in comparison with the next-gen Maddens. I really enjoyed Madden on the PS2 and have been playing since '91 but after playing this demo I realize it is time for them to step up. How can a billion dollar company be so dominated in the gameplay department by a small company like 2k? Do any of you 2k fans have any hope that Ian and EA can atleast match this kind of gameplay for Madden 11?

After watching those video clips that show great gameplay, anyone who thinks this generations Madden games are any good gameplay wise is well, hate to use the word, an fanboy.

Thanks NFLHitman I am very excited to dive into this game over the next few days! When you play on-line do you use teams already in the game.. or do you create teams and take that team on-line to play?

It would be pretty cool to make a team a play people on-line with it. I am not sure how you could stop people from having ridiculously good teams with all the best players though..

You can't use the teams already made up. In fact as soon as you put the game in you will be required to make a team before anything else.

Offense has a leg up on the defense in APF. I usually put 2 defensive players as my Gold players but to each his own
