Re: Bringing back the heat ~~|Houston Astros|~~
Centrals lead the way
After one month, MLB's hottest teams in both leagues sit in the central division. The Cleveland Indians with top power hitting and defensive abilities have started out 18-8 despite being projected as a mid level team. They are absolutely running away with the division, with the next closest White Sox already five game back at 12-12. The Indians have outscored their opponents 142-104 and proved that they have the bats that are needed to dominate in the MLB.
The Cardinals on the flip side are 19-8 one game btter with a two game win streak and 139-105 difference. Both teams are fairly similar, but Saint Louis sees its strength in contact hitting on their way to a historical season start. Two consecutive years of losing their best non-pitcher of the previous year (Pujols and Berkman) has done nothing to slow this team down, not even losing their manager has slowed them down.

After a full month, Chicago Cubs short stop, Starlin Castro leads the NL with .358 batting average, just one point better than second place first baseman, Jonathan Singleton of the Houston Astros. Indians Asdrubal Cabrera and Grady Sizemore are among the top of the class of the AL, with .385 and .369 respectively, the only other team to hold that level of dominance is the Yankees with three players in the top ten, Mark Teixeira, Brett Gardner and Robinson Cano.
Chris Heisey of Cincinnati and John Buck of Miami are tied for the most home runs in the NL with eight a piece, once again the AL holds a lead over the NL, with Matt Joyce (LF-TB), Mark Teixeira (1B-NYY) and Prince Fielder (1B-DET) all tied with the lead in the MLB with ten. Joyce is the only odd face on the list, not known for his power he somehow has managed to jump out of the gates fast.
Prince Fielder and Mark Teixeira find themselves at the top of another category with Fielder holding the MLB high 28 RBI's and Mark Teixeira adding 27 of his own, overshadowing the outfield duo of Chris Heisey and Jay Bruce of Cincinnati that has 23 and 22 respectively.
Four pitchers lead the MLB in wins, with Chris Carpenter (STL), Mat Latos (CIN), Homer Bailey (CIN) and Danny Duffy (KC) leading the MLB with four wins. Of those, Carpenter is the only pitcher to not have a loss as well as holding the lowest ERA with a 1.85. The 37 year old starter is posting great numbers and should be in the race for the Cy Young to close out a great career.
Five closers tie the lead in the MLB with ten saves a piece. Kyle Farnsworth (LAA), Chris Perez (CLE), Frank Francisco (NYM), Javy Guerra (LAD) and Huston Street (SD). Clearly California is being home of the dominate closers with thirty saves between three at the top of the league.
Finally the leader in the MLB for ERA is Colby Lewis of the White Sox. Lewis is 2-0 this far into the season with 26 strike outs and an outstanding 1.3 ERA. Lewis is a career 4.45 pitcher and a total in the ones is drastically moving his career totals down. Vance Worley leads the NL with his pitching for Philadelphia with a 1.75 ERA and a perfect 3-0 record. Vance also leads the NL in shutouts with two.
Tim Lincecum and Daniel Bard (BOS) lead the MLB, both at the top of their respective leagues with 44 strikeouts a piece. Bard is 3-1 with a 3.44 ERA while Lincecum is (3-2) with a 3.51 ERA needing to get his numbers back on pace, after a 13-14, 2011 campaign he would manage a winning season at 12-11 but those are hardly Cy Young numbers.

Some big names are on the trade block already but don't expect too much movement just yet, not until the deadline nears. Second baseman Robinson Cano, Starting pitcher Phil Hughes of the Yankees find themselves being named in several rumors. Brandon Beachy a great young pitching prospect has been named to be expendable by the Braves following a 0-5 start and 7.39 ERA.
Edwin Jackson (SP) of the Nationals is another player that could be moved to try and get the Nationals into the playoffs this year, with some youth he could contribute as a three pitcher, his 9 ERA and 1-4 record is alarming however.
Zack Greinke, in the first year of his new deal has been listed as a potential option to be moved, Greinke is 3-1 with a 3.41 and 41 strike outs thus far, with the Brewers near the bottom of their division, they might just start their rebuilding process this season.
