MLB 12: The Show (PS3) - New York Mets Franchise: From Debacle to Amazin' AGAIN!

I just began a New York Mets franchise in MLB 12: The Show for PS3. I'm currently 3-3, 6 games into my first season. Here was what my team looked like to start off:

Catcher: Josh Thole
3rd Base: David Wright
2nd Base: Daniel Murphy
Shortstop: Ruben Tejada
1st Base: Ike Davis
Left Field: Jason Bay or Lucas Duda
Center Field: Andres Torres
Right Field: Kirk Nieuwenhuis or Mike Baxter

Rotation:

1. Santana
2. Dickey
3. Niese
4. Pelfrey
5. Gee

Bullpen:

LR: Beato
LR: Parnell
LR: Edgin
MR: Ramirez
MR: Acosta
MR: Hefner
SU: Byrdak
SU: Rauch
Closer: Frank Francisco

I did make some trades, however and here's a rundown of them:

Traded Jason Bay, Manny Acosta and Daniel Murphy to Chicago White Sox for Gordon Beckham, Alex Rios and Hector Santiago

Traded Frank Francisco and Ruben Tejada to Arizona Diamondbacks for JJ Putz and Stephen Drew

Traded a B-Potential prospect and a player to be named later to Philadelphia Phillies for John Mayberry, Jr.

Traded Bobby Parnell and a B-Potential pitching prospect to Washington Nationals for Brad Lidge and Sean Burnett

I am also currently in talks with several teams about dealing Andres Torres (since Torres is injury-prone and I can't risk any of my players getting injured; let another team deal with him).

So here's a rundown of my team (as of right now):

Catcher: Josh Thole
3rd Base: David Wright
2nd Base: Gordon Beckham
Shortstop: Stephen Drew
1st Base: Ike Davis
Left Field: John Mayberry, Jr.
Center Field: Andres Torres
Right Field: Alex Rios

Rotation:

1. Johan Santana
2. RA Dickey
3. Mike Pelfrey
4. Jon Niese
5. Dillon Gee

Bullpen:

LR: Brad Lidge
LR: Hector Santiago
LR: Josh Edgin
LR: Elwin Ramirez
MR: Ramon Ramirez
MR: Sean Burnett
MR: Jeremy Hefner
SU: Tim Byrdak
SU: Jon Rauch
Closer: JJ Putz

Now here's a rundown of my first 6 games:

Opening Day (4/5/12):

Braves - 4
Mets - 1

W: Tommy Hanson (1-0)
L: Johan Santana (0-1)
S: Craig Kimbrel (1)

4/7/12 - vs. Atlanta:

Braves - 2
Mets - 5

W: RA Dickey (1-0)
L: Jair Jurrjens (0-1)
S: JJ Putz (2)

4/8/12 - vs. Atlanta:

Braves - 5
Mets - 3

W: Minor (1-0)
L: Niese (0-1)
S: None

4/9/12 - vs. Washington:

Nationals - 2
Mets - 6

W: Mike Pelfrey (1-0)
L: Edwin Jackson (0-1)
S: JJ Putz (3)

4/10/12 - vs. Washington:

Nationals - 0
Mets - 2

W: Dillon Gee (1-0)
L: Ross Detwiler (0-1)
S: Hector Santiago (1)

4/11/12 - vs. Washington:

Washington - 5
Mets - 4

W: Steven Strasburg (2-0)
L: Johan Santana (0-2)
S: None

I'm currently heading into a 3-game set with the Phillies, who I am 2 games back of in the NL East.

Probables:

Game 1: RA Dickey vs. Cliff Lee
Game 2: Jon Niese vs. Vance Worley
Game 3: Mike Pelfrey vs. Cole Hamels

I'll update after each series I complete; that WILL include the standings so you can see where my team is in the division. When something goes on in my franchise, I'll post that as well. Be sure to follow the franchise as it goes on! I thank you all for coming along for the ride.

Re: MLB 12: The Show (PS3) - New York Mets Franchise: From Debacle to Amazin' AGAIN!

The Phillies series was a big bust as the Mets were swept.

Game 1:

Phillies - 9
Mets - 0

W: Cliff Lee (1-1)
L: RA Dickey (1-1)
S: None

Game 2:

Phillies - 1
Mets - 0

W: Vance Worley (1-1)
L: Jon Niese (0-2)
S: Jonathan Papelbon (3)

Game 3:

Phillies - 4
Mets - 2

W: Cole Hamels (1-1)
L: Mike Pelfrey (1-1)
S: Papelbon (4)

The Mets headed to Atlanta for 3 games against the Braves to conclude a 6 game road swing:

Game 1:

Braves - 3
Mets - 4

W: Jon Rauch (1-0)
L: Johnny Venters (0-1)
Save: None

The Mets took game 1 of the series, no problem. You'd think that we'd be able to take game 2 and pull off the upset, right? WRONG! Take a look:

Game 2:

Braves - 4
Mets - 3

W: Randall Delgado (2-0)
L: JJ Putz (0-1)

We blew a 3-1 lead in the 8th inning as JJ Putz blows his first save since being traded from the Diamondbacks back to the Mets. There's still game 3. We have a chance to come back and win. However, you can't always get what you want.

Game 3:

Braves - 6
Mets - 4

W: Cristhian Martinez (2-0)
L: Hector Santiago (0-1)

Another blown lead for the Mets turns into another loss as the Amazins fall off the pace in the NL East. Nothing a trip back to Citi Field can't fix. The San Francisco Giants are waiting to greet us.

Game 1:

Giants - 0
Mets - 1

W: Dillon Gee (2-0)
L: Ryan Vogelsong (1-1)
S: JJ Putz (4)

Dillon Gee comes up big for us on the mound, pitching 7 strong innings for us. Oh, by the way, new acquisition Colby Rasmus comes through with a pinch-hit RBI double to win the game. If you're wondering how I got Rasmus in my franchise....I'll get to that after the game rundowns.

Game 2:

Giants - 3
Mets - 7

W: Johan Santana (1-2)
L: Tim Lincecum (2-1)
S: James Frasor (2)

Santana picks up his first win of the season, besting Tim Lincecum. David Wright, Stephen Drew, Ike Davis and Gordon Beckham all had home runs to power the Mets offense as the Amazins continue their climb back to the top of the NL East.

Game 3:

Giants - 3
Mets - 4

W: RA Dickey (2-1)
L: Barry Zito (2-1)
S: JJ Putz (5)

A close call for the Mets that time as Dickey nearly blows YET ANOTHER lead in the late innings. However, Putz is able to come on and shut down the Giants for the final 5 outs to take game 3 and the series. Get the brooms out because there's the possibility of a sweep in some afternoon baseball!

Game 4:

Giants - 9
Mets - 3

W: Madison Bumgarner (2-1)
L: Jon Niese (0-3)

Bumgarner was too tough for Mets hitters to handle as New York falls 9-3 in the rubber match of the 4 game set with San Francisco. The homestand isn't over as Miami comes to town for 3 games in Jose Reyes' return to New York.

Now for those trades:

To Mets:

LF Jason Kubel

To Diamondbacks:

CF Alex Rios

To Mets:

LF Alfonso Soriano
CF Reed Johnson
SP Chris Volstad

To Cubs:

RF Lucas Duda
CF Andres Torres
SP Jon Niese

To Mets:

SP Brett Cecil
RP James Frasor
CF Colby Rasmus

To Blue Jays:

SP Dan Montoya (B potential)
RP Tim Byrdak
LF John Mayberry Jr.

My team now looks like this:

Catcher: Josh Thole
3rd Base: David Wright
2nd Base: Gordon Beckham
Shortstop: Stephen Drew
1st Base: Ike Davis
Left Field: Jason Kubel
Center Field: Reed Johnson
Right Field: Alfonso Soriano

Rotation:

1. Johan Santana
2. RA Dickey
3. Mike Pelfrey
4. Chris Volstad
5. Brett Cecil

Bullpen:

LR: Brad Lidge
LR: Hector Santiago
LR: Josh Edgin
LR: Elwin Ramirez
MR: Ramon Ramirez
MR: Sean Burnett
MR: Jeremy Hefner
SU: James Frasor
SU: Jon Rauch
Closer: JJ Putz

I am currently tied with the Washington Nationals for 4th place in the NL East, 3 games back of the Braves.

Re: MLB 12: The Show (PS3) - New York Mets Franchise: From Debacle to Amazin' AGAIN!

I simmed to today and the results were not what I expected. I wanted to be at least 3rd place and in the Wild Card hunt. However, the game threw me a 12-6 curveball and gave me these results:

April: 10-13 (not bad, could be better)

May: 14-14 (24-27 overall)

June: 14-14 (38-41 overall)

July: 12-14 (50-55 overall)

August (so far): 2-3

That makes me 52-58, tied with the Phillies for 4th in the NL East, 9 games back of the Braves and 6.5 out of the Brewers for the Wild Card.

Re: MLB 12: The Show (PS3) - New York Mets Franchise: From Debacle to Amazin' AGAIN!

Well, it looks as though my hard work was in vain this time. I finished up with a record of 75-87, 13 games out of first in the NL East, 15 out of the Wild Card. My team leading pitcher was Jared Voglesong at 13-5 with a 3.02 ERA. Leading batters were David Wright and Ike Davis. Wright's numbers were: .314/30 HRs/98 RBIs

Davis's numbers were: .308/21/90

However, the poor performance of the Mets lead to the firing of the entire staff including manager Terry Collins in the offseason. The new season brings a new staff with new teammates and a new manager in Eric Wedge. The Mets have a lot to learn from the last year and what better place to start than SPRING TRAINING!

It's time to PLAY BALL....AGAIN!
