Hopefully you can get the bats going and starting scoring some runs. That will definitely help with the "W"'s
Ya, tends to happen once every 3 starts. Will make it challenging at worst.

If I could just get Castro and Barney swinging the stick it would be awesome. I've always been bad hitting with Barney in games, the Castro slump is new for me though.

Re: Breaking the Curse: A Chicago Cubs Story

So I have to admit, with the Cubs finally finalizing the Garza deal to Texas and getting Olt, it makes me want to fire up a Cubs Franchise. Overall I am very happy with the direction the Cubs are going. Now if we can deal Soriano for just 1 decent prospect. I will be happy.

Barney can't hit, he is on the field for his glove, which I am guessing in time the Cubs will realize they just can't live with that. With Olt in the picture and Castro at SS for the next 7 years, my hopes and guess would be that we shift Baez over to 2B. As much as I love all the young OF talent we have (Solar, Almora,Jackson,Szczur and now my guess would be K. Bryant in RF?) I really feel that the Cubs lineup would benefit from a veteran power hitter in LF to take the pressure off Rizzo and Castro. Basically the player they signed Soriano to be.

The guy I would like to see in a Cubs uni next year is Carlos Beltran if he doesn't resign with the Cards. I think he would be a great 2 year starter until the younger guy's have another season in AAA to develop.

Looks like as I type this that Soriano is close to being on his way out. If Junior Lake keeps hitting the way he is now I could see him developing into the guy we signed Soriano to be initially and he covers a ton of ground!

Re: Breaking the Curse: A Chicago Cubs Story

Brewers thump Cubs in home opener 9-1

Chicago (AP) - Travis Wood did not have his best outing, the game however wasn't entirely his fault. To start the game Starlin Castro misplayed a routine grounder that allowed Aoki to get on. two batters later, Former NL MVP Ryan Braun hit a two run homer. (We protested the homer on account of a positive steroid test in the winter). Wood got himself in trouble again, but would have been out of it unscathed if not for a blown call at 1st base by the umpire, which led to 3 more runs scoring that inning.

Hector Rondon was called on to get some work in the 9th and was absolutely shelled after getting two batters out. Michael Bowden had to be summoned to put the flames out.

The Cubs did have a bit of good news... Darwin Barney looks to have recovered from the injury he has been playing with and got his 1st hit of the season! Other than that however, not much wen the Cubs way.

Barney Breaks Brewers

Chicago (AP) - Darwin Barney took a long time to get his first hit, not as long as Luis Valbuena who is still waiting on his first hit to fall. But he followed that game up with a two hit game and the player of the game award. Barney hit a solo homer and got the winning RBI in the bottom of the 9th.

Barney put down a suicide squeeze to end the game, that he actually beat out even though it was a formality. Shawn Camp picked up the win after pitching 2 innings of scoreless relief after Edwin Jackson was pulled from a quality start.

The Rubber Match will pit Scott Feldman (1-0, 1.50) against Michael Fiers (0-0, 4.76)

Re: Breaking the Curse: A Chicago Cubs Story

Brewers Braun Bashes Cubs

Chicago (AP)- Seriously, can we test Ryan Braun for PED's? This guy is clobbering the Cubs, in three games he hit three home runs. The pitching staff was only able to get him out three times all series. The Cubs settled for intentional Walks of Braun after yet another homer late in the game.

The Cubs came out hitting on all cyclinders, with everyone getting a piece of the action. Despite taking a strong lead to start the game the Brewers came back off of a Ryan Braun homer that drove in three to take the lead. Darwin Barney came through clutch and knocked in an RBI to tie the game. In extra innings Alex Gonzalez hit a solo homer but the Cubs answered with an RBI single by Anthony RIzzo.

In the 12th however, the wheels fell off the bullpen. Carlos Marmol after a scoreless 11th, came in for a 2nd inning of relief, with only two pitchers left in the bullpen. He promptly gave up four runs before Shawn Camp relieved him. The Cubs nearly were able to strike back in the 12th as Anthony Rizzo hit a long fly ball that landed in the glove of Carloz Gomez at the wall to end the game with bases loaded.

Up Next: The San Francisco Giants come to town. Bary Zito (0-0, 3.00) is scheduled to go against Carlos Villanueva (0-1, 5.40). Both teams will start the series at 4-5.

Re: Breaking the Curse: A Chicago Cubs Story

Cubs Squeak Out Win In Pitchers Duel

Chicago (AP) - Barry Zito was phenomenal in his start at Wrigley today. He went six 6! straight innings without allowing a base runner. 6! But the Cubs ended up with the upper hand. Carlos Villanueva was able to keep the Giants runners few and far between and was able to let the Cubs time Zito up.

Impact Moment: The Lone run was driven in by Anthony Rizzo who was able to rip a single into left that was slightly misplayed by the left fielder and this allowed David DeJesus to score.

Game Changer: Scott Hairston throwing out Hunter Pence at the plate with an absolute seed to the plate in the 5th inning to keep the game scoreless. Without this throw there is no way that one run wins it.

Next Up:Jeff Samardzija (1-1, 1.59era) will face off against Matt Cain (1-1, 5.00 era)
