Olidegu's Detroit Tigers Franchise
BLESS YOU BOYS! February 2013 - The Detroit Tigers come off of 2012 with a bitter, disgusting taste in their mouths. The Detroit Tigers wrapped up 2012 with a 4-0 sweep in the World Series by the San Francisco Giants. Owner Mike Illitch and GM Dave Dombrowski were not pleased last year and made their voices heard all off-season. There was some good to come of all the misery however. Despite getting to the world series and having a regular season record of 88-74, the Tigers also collected some hardware. Miguel Cabrera won the Triple Crown, the last player to do so was Carl Yastrzemski in 1967. Austin Jackson also took home a defensive player of the year award. Miguel Cabrera enters the 2013 with lots of expectations, will he deliver? But what looms ahead in 2013 for the Tigers? Manager Jim Leyland is back and hopefully better than ever. Maybe, just maybe Jim will learn what a bunt is! Leyland is 607-528 career with the Tigers in 8 seasons. Joining him this year are hitting coach Lloyd McClendon and pitching coach Jeff Jones. Legendary coach 3rd base coach Tom Brookens is back as well for the 2013 campaign. Here is a list of coaches (salary/length of contract left): Manager: Jim Leyland (4.45/4) Hitting Coach: Lloyd McClendon (1.55/4) Pitching Coach: Jeff Jones (925/1) 1st Base Coach: Alberto Suarez (705K/3) 3rd Base Coach: Tom Brookens (540K/2) Farm Director: Lee Ledbetter (1.18/1) The Tigers head into Spring Training this year feeling pretty good about themselves and where they were, but know that they have to be even better if they want to get to where they want to be in the 2013 season. The Tigers have added veteran OF Torii Hunter to be along side Andy Dirks and Austin Jackson. SS Jhonny Peralta returns and there and back again IF/2B Omar Infante fills a void at 2B that needed to be filled. Victor Martinez and Alex Avila will see time both at DH and the catcher spot but it is Avila's to lose at this point. Reserves and minor league players who may make an impact could be OF Quintin Berry, OF Avasail Garcia, C Brayan Pena and SS Danny Worth. Starting pitching which is a strength for the Tigers see the mighty three return. Verlander, Scherzer and Fister. You then add in Sanchez and Porcello and that is a pretty good looking rotation. Valverde's big *** is gone and the closer position is one that the Tigers will look to fill during this spring training. Max Scherzer should be doing that a lot this year....hopefully The Tigers most highly touted young talent entering the new season is IF Nick Castellanos who should see some MLB playing time if he is lucky. OF Daniel Fields looks to get many reps at least in spring training and Jake Thompson looks very promising as a powerful righty coming up on the mound. Below is a list of the top prospects and their rankings entering spring training this year. 1)Nick Castellanos IF 2)Jonathon Crawford P 3)Robbie Ray P 4)Daniel Fields OF 5)Eugenio Suarez SS Last edited by OliDegu2008; 05-25-2014 at 09:54 PM. |
