Rest of July 2015

Well I have just wrapped up my 1st full major league month and as you will see...this is hard. I have had my ups and downs, some bright spots, some bad moments, but all in all I'm enjoying the ride.

After getting in a month's worth of games, I am hovering around the Mendoza Line...but I'm not too worried. While the organization probably sees me as under-performing, there are some things to look at to show that I am doing well in helping the team.

I have shown a good eye and currently sport a nice 13/7 BB:K ratio, and almost half of my hits have been for extra bases.

Yeah I've had those bad 2 strikeout or 2 GIDP games sprinkled in, but I believe the team still believes in me.

I've gotten along well with all my teammates and I'm actually rooming with Freddie Freeman when we sleep in a road hotel. Getting to pick his brain, since he is such an awesome hitter, as well as getting to be great friends has helped me out a ton.

The Braves are doing well and we are right there in the hunt for the division crown. We had a bad stretch to end the month but unless something crazy happens, we are going to be in the hunt right until the end.

I also want to talk to you about the night where I shined.

It was on the 20th and we were finishing up a home series against the Padres. And well...let's roll the footage:

An RBI double off of Josh Johnson in the 5th, followed by my 1st Career Grand Slam, in the 6th, made for an amazing night.

The grand slam also came in an 0-2 count as Huston Street hung a slider over the plate. At first it didn't seem like I hit it that good but man did that ball carried to deep left center.

In the 8th, I could of added to my impressive total with the bases loaded again, this time with no outs, but I grounded into a double play AHHHHHH!!! but that did allow the then go-ahead run the score and we hung on to win 7-6.

Now it's time to start raking and thrust the A-T-L into the #1 spot so we can get back to the promise land.

August 2015

What a month!!! It was kind of an odd one for me as I started it off by dipping below the Mendoza Line...but from about the middle of the month, I was en fuego!!!

For a little while my confidence was shaken, but somehow I turned it around by getting 2 hits in a game vs King Felix, and getting base hits off of him really made me feel good. I still had an odd month though. For some reason I only worked 2 walks and struck out a bunch of times, but I was knocking the ball all over the park. I tallied 11 extra-base hits and a whopping 16 RBI, so yeah take that sabermetricians.

We also wrapped up an excellent month, but still find ourselves behind the Nationals, but we are right there...this last month is going to be nuts as we try to take down the NL East.

Here are my 2 homers on the month...one coming off of Jesse Crain and the other off of Addison Reed. The one in Houston was 400 feet...WHAT A BOMB!!!

September 2015

Let's start off on a good note by showing my 7th and final homer of the year off of Sean Marshall to deep center and...

Phew...that was almost robbed!!!

Unfortunately as you can see we were not able to take down the NL East crown, but we still did make the playoffs as a wild card.

September started off lousy as we were swept by the eventual NL East Champions, the Nationals. On top of that, we lost Jason Heyward to a finger injury and he may be back only if we get to the World Series, so all of us and J-Hey especially, is bummed about that.

My last month of the season was pretty good. I had a couple bombs, a half-a-dozen more extra base hits and drove in 12, to finish with an even 40 RBI in just 75 games. Prorate that and it comes out to almost 90 runs batted in for a season, so I'm pretty thrilled about that.

I was moved up in the lineup with J-Hey's injury and I'm feeling more comfortable at the 5th or 6th spot. I even hit cleanup in a couple games, so I know the organization is really behind me. I just gotta work on getting on base at a better clip and once I do that the 'ole batting average will go up.

But for now it's time to focus on the postseason...I want to join the party that this organization had last year and collect my first ring. I may not be too well known by the majority of fans, but come October, I hope to make my mark, ala David Freese, and help the Atlanta Braves go BACK 2 BACK!!!

September 29th, 2015

Well...here we go. It's the night before the 1-game playoff and I am anxious to just play the game. It's do or die. Everything we usually do is in a series but not this time and I'm not sure if it will affect the way everyone plays.

We will be hosting the Colorado Rockies tomorrow from Turner Field and I know we can pull it off. The Rockies are a good team, finishing with the same record as us (89-73), but I think our pitching is what sets us apart as we were 2nd in Team ERA, while the Rockies were almost dead last.

No one can overlook any team that makes the postseason, even if we know that we have the better team, so the team will make sure we don't sleep on the Rockies...

Speaking of sleep, it's time to hit the hay. It's 1am and I can't sleep because I am so excited to play in my first postseason game.

Good night!

Braves Crush Rockies, Advance to NLDS
6-run outburst in the 2nd inning sends the Braves to Washington
9/30/15|5:46 PM ET

The energy was at a all-time high in Turner Field as the Atlanta Braves knocked around Colorado pitching for 12 runs on 11 hits. The Braves would put up six runs in the second, and three more in the third, leading to a 12-2 victory in the National League Wild Card game.

Kris Medlen (1-0, 2.16) almost went the distance, before being pulled after giving up a base hit with one out in the 9th, and picked up the victory only allowing two runs and striking out six. Jhoulys Chacin was not very good for the Rockies, getting knocked out after just two innings after allowing seven (six earned) runs.

Chacin worked through a 1-2-3 first inning but could not get an out in the 2nd. He also didn't have very much help from his defense. With runners on 1st and 2nd, with no outs, a groundball was misplayed by Troy Tulowitzki, allowing the first of the six runs of the inning to score.

Tulowitzki just simply missed the ball as it rolled under his glove, bringing in Justin Upton. After that the Braves turned the lineup over and Freddie Freeman put the nail in the coffin with a 3-run shot, which was followed by a Justin Upton solo shot.

Freeman drove in four, while Upton connected with another solo shot, his 2nd of the game, in the 8th, off of Craig Breslow.

The Braves will now travel to the nation's capital to face off against their division rivals, and NL East Champions, the Washington Nationals. Game 1 will be on Sunday afternoon with the probable starters being Brandon Beachy and Stephen Strasburg.

(OOC: Season Wrap-Up and My Season Finale Blog will be coming!)

Zimmerman, Nationals Take Game 5
Complete game shutout advances Nationals to NLCS.
10/10/15|10:21 PM ET

Win or go home? What better performance could you ask for in a game like that.

Jordan Zimmerman was flat out dominant in the NLDS Game 5 showdown versus the Atlanta Braves. Zimmerman only allowed three hits and struck out eight to lead the Nationals to the National League Championship Series, where they will meet the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Kris Medlen was also very good, but a rocky first inning was all that needed to occur on this night to do him in. Bryce Harper hit an RBI double, followed by a RBI single by Nate McClouth, that scored Harper. Besides that Medlen only allowed two more hits, for a total of just four over seven innings and six strikeouts.

The Nationals were behind 2-1 in the NLCS, but some extraordinary pitching came at just the right time for Washington. In Game 4, Doug Fister had to leave the game with a tight back only two innings in and the bullpen combined to only give up one run in seven innings of relief.

With the bullpen taxed from the night before, Jordan Zimmerman put those questions to rest as turned in an amazing performance to send Washington to its first NLCS since 1981, when the franchise was the Montreal Expos.

The Braves' season is ended in a year where they were vying to become the first repeat World Series Champions since the Yankees won three-in-a-row from 1998 to 2000.

Game 1 of the NLCS will be on Monday night from Nationals Park.
