"This is my true chance for the big leagues, it is every kid's dream," said Bowers. He is off to the Prospect Showcase for the East team (Playing out of North Carolina). Bowers hopes to impress scouts and end up in the top 3 rounds. They will face the West, Central, and International in the showcase and Bowers will show if he has what it takes to take his game to the ultimate level. "Nerves are kicking in, but that comes with time. I hope to impress every scout out there and have teams fighting for me."
Prospect Showcase
The first game kicked off with Bowers going 3 innings with no hits allowed and 1 strikeout. Sadly, the great start did not carry into game 2. Bowers allowed 7 hits, 1 walk, and 6 earned runs before being pulled in the 3rd inning. The third game was a mix of the two. He allowed 3 hits but had 3 strikeouts with no earned runs. He was projected to go in the sixth round. Bowers was selected 6th round, 8th overall by the Toronto Blue Jays. He has declined the option to accept the contract and went back to school to improve his game.
Back to School - Prospect Showcase #2
After finishing up another year of school, Bowers comes into game 1 and allows 1 hit, 2 walks, no earned runs, and 1 strike out. At times, he really struggled with his control but his fastball did reach 99 MPH. On to game 2, Bowers held himself again only allowing 1 run on 5 hits and had another strikeout. The last game for Bowers to show off his stuff to the scouts went from great to a train wreck due to some bad fielding from his teammates. He left the game with 6 hits allowed, 2 earned runs, and a strikeout. Surprisingly, Bowers dropped from projected 6th round to 7th round, despite his better stats than the first showcase. Bowers starts his career with the San Diego Padres!
