This will be a long running Blue Jays Franchise. I had a previous franchise but nothing recorded and also was still learning the basics of the game early on. Now that I've figured it out, a fresh start is much welcomed.
Also, I won't be using as many of the nice images as some others use early on, but hope to figure that out eventually. My write ups will be done after each game I play, and then each series in general to get an overall view. I probably won't do much more than standings for other divisions, although there may be some special reports eventually.
As the Blue Jays head into the 2015 season, there is plenty of reason for optimism. We have one of the most potent offenses in the league with names like Josh Donaldson, Edwin Encarnacion, Jose Reyes and of course Jose Bautista. Add in some solid depth guys in the lineup and it's a team with the ability to outscore anyone in the majors.
The real questions come in pitching. Marcus Stroman is the big end starting prospect that the team is looking forward to this season, with guys like Daniel Norris, Aaron Sanchez and Jeff Hoffman not far away in the minors. In the pen there are some more young arms, notably Roberto Osuna and Miguel Castro, who will be key pieces in the bullpen this season. Unfortunately the starting rotation is a work in progress still, and will struggle to have any one pitcher dominate this year.
Game 1 Recap:
The opening day game saw Drew Hutchison take the mound against Masahiro Tanaka at Yankee Stadium. Tanaka put on a masterful performance for the crowd, throwing a 3 hit shutout with 7 K's and giving up no walks. Drew Hutchison went 6.1 innings and gave up just 4 hits and 2 runs in his opener, but it was not enough with the Jays offense struggling early.
The Jays will hope that is a sign of things to come for their pitching, as they know their offense will not be that quiet otherwise.
